1 THE ROOSTER TALE MARCH 2020 Vol: 9820, Issue: 03 MESSAGE FROM LITTLE SIR: JIM GRAGG (916) 708-5154 Fellow SIRs, as we all know, annual Branch 98 Dues are due by March 31st. Currently (as of February) we have received Dues payments from 186 members which is great! However, in comparison to February 2019, we had received Dues payments from 205. We still have about 6 weeks before March 31st, so please send your Dues payment checks to the Treasurer (Bill Kemper, 3466 Paseo Mira Vista, Lincoln, CA 95648) by US Mail or via your banks on-line bill pay system. And of course, you can also pay for Dues at the March 11th lunch. When I first became a member of Chapter 98 and found our annual dues were just $25, I thought – Wow what a bargain for an enriched retirement life. As this bulletin goes to press, Robin and I are heading to a SIR Town Hall meeting in Fairfield. There, the States 2020 plans and their implementation will be discussed with other SIR leaders from our region and State officers. A report on the highlights of the workshop will be given at the March BEC meeting. Our March Program is Dr. Lynn Johnson, DC, Certified Health Specialist, presenting The Trilogy of Optimal HealthHealthy Body, Healthy Mind and Healthy Finances. She will shed light on how what goes into your mouth, and into your mind, affects your ability to live your retirement life according to what matters most to you. Want to expand the number of people you know in SIR and make more friends? Try volunteering for a committee or one of the open positions we are looking to fill. Working together with other members builds rapport and closer associations. Our primary goal is not simply an increase in numbers - it is also how we can satisfy the interests of our current members and the new friendships they will enjoy. Of equal im- portance, we continue to seek out retired men and introduce to them and how much life can be each day. The worst thing we can think of is a good man sitting at home and he feels alone. We believe the secret to our success is our understanding of the men who join our branch. No one should spend a life working hard and meet their commitments to their family but forget about their own happiness when they retire. Everyone should still be excited about getting up each day, making new friends and embracing new activities and a life full of chal- lenges. Branch 98 delivers! "Friendship is the hardest thing in the world to explain. Its not something you learn in school. But if you havent learned the meaning of friendship, you really havent learned anything." This month starts our fourth year of searching for the most Superb Burger in the greater Roseville, Rocklin, Loomis, Lincoln, Granite Bay & Citrus Hts. area. You would think that we would have ran out of “Burger Joints” by now, we have not. This month we had a very nice lunch at Four Sisters Café’ in Roseville. There were 11 members that joined us (a little light due to a golf outing) we were seated in their patio area. The food was good, the service was great, however, we felt that the main focus of Four Sisters is breakfast. They re-

ceived a burger rating of 4.19 Next month we will be checking out the recently opened EUREKA Restau-rant in Roseville. They are located at 234 Gibson Drive #100 near the Rose-ville Galleria. The Date is March 17 at 11:30. If you are there on time, you are late. Come join us for some fun and good food (we hope).

RSVP to Stephen Eastman at [email protected] or just show up at 11:30 AM on March 17, 2020.

She has en-joyed a 30 year career working with famous NBA and NFL play-ers and Pro Golfers and World Champion boxers. Success has resulted in travel to over 25 countries, and with continuous learning and staying curious, she is now a Certified Wellness Specialist through Villanova University and helps clients in the US and beyond create “The Trilogy of Optimal Health” – Healthy Body, Healthy Mind and Healthy Finances. She will shed light on how what goes into your mouth, and into your mind, affects your ability to live life ac-cording to what matters most to you. And how what is “between your ears” either works for you or against you. She will give you “exercises” to implement into your life that will help reduce neurological stress and increase happiness, motivation and personal productivity, especially active retirees.

I recently retired and relocated to Placer County from the Bay Area. I didn’t know anyone, but I remembered a friend of mine is a member of Branch 102 and he recom-mended I look into SIRS. I met with David Bills and joined in January 2019. I immedi-ately felt welcomed from the first meeting. One of my goals in joining SIRS was to meet lots of members and make some new friends. I thought the best way to would be to volunteer. I had a career in sales so I signed up to sell tickets for the BBQ event in May. What a great decision! While vol-unteering I got to meet a lot of our current members, welcomed new members, made some new friends, personally felt really good inside, was involved in something bigger than myself that helped the Branch. And I had a lot of fun. I encourage every-one to volunteer at least once in 2020. I know you will find it a rewarding experi-ence.

The Antelope Greens Spring and Summer League begins on Friday April 24th at 7:30 A.M. and continues each Friday morning until October 9th 2020. Important note: Members of the AG league don’t have to play every Friday, but may choose the selected dates of their choice. In order to play in the AG league you must be an active Sir and signed up as a member/player and pay the required fees. (Cash only is accepted for all fees to the AG league, as we do not have a bank account)

All members will pay a one-time entry fee of $20.00. These fees are used for running the league with the majori-ty used to enhance our prize fund. Additionally each Friday that you choose to play, each player will pay $2.00 to the AG league for the prize fund and pay their green fees di-rectly to the course, which is $18.00 walking plus $10.00 if you choose to ride a cart. (Credit cards accepted by the course) The prize monies will be paid out to the weekly win-ners of the events at the end of the season at the awards luncheon. All players must also pay a mandatory $4.00 fee to the league as coverage for hole-in-one insurance. A por-tion of the insurance funds is used to immediately award the hole-in-one golfer $50.00, which may help him carry out the tradition of buying his fellow golfers present that day, a drink to celebrate his achievement. Any unpaid money re-maining in the insurance fund at the end of the season will be used to supplement the awards luncheon or for addition-al prizes for the members.

Sign-ups will be available on line thru the sir golf site and you may sign-up for up to 4 weeks at a time. The sign-up format does not allow you to choose the players in your group as that is the random selection and rotation process of the tournament coordinator. More information about this entire process will be provided with our newsletter & sched-ule of dates/ games in the April Rooster Tale. Any new players interested in joining the league are asked to e-mail Len Sampaio at

[email protected] or call him at (916)797-9391. If interested you will be sent a copy of the rules and schedule immediately. All members from the 2019 season will automatically receive the copies for the new season.

A NEW WAY OF COMMUNICATING WITH YOU!

By Kent Miller, Branch 98 Email Coordinator

Over the next several months, we will begin using a new email distribution system. It is call Constant Contact. As-a-matter-of-fact, February’s Rooster Tale was distributed using Constant Con-tact. And this month, we distributed our first Picnic flyer and a no-tice regarding the date of the Roseville Telephone Museum tour. Our branch now has over 270 members. Communicating with all of you, has become very cumbersome, with no guarantee that emails will reach you. Regular email providers, like Hotmail, Gmail, and others, have limits as to the number of recipients on each email. This has caused email communications to be broken into many separate emails and even then no guarantees emails will get delivered. To solve this problem, our branch, along with several others and State SIR organization will use Constant Contact. What will you see that’s different? Almost all communication will show SIR Branch 98 in your Inbox as the sender. All our communications will have the new version of the SIR Rooster logo at the top. We are developing an email notifica-tion for signing up for the monthly SIR luncheon - it’s pretty simple to use. What you can do to help this become successful, is to add: SIR Branch 98 to your email contacts as a contact name, with an email address of [email protected]. I will be sending additional information to you as we final-ize our processes and email formats.
