The travels of Marco Polo
The travels of Marco Polo May 1271I am going to China! Father and uncle Matteo are going back to see the emperor; Kublai Khan. I am going to meet him, too! We are on a wooden ship with big sails. We have a lot of food and water for our journey. bread and dried meat are easy to keep on the ship but we need fresh fruit and vegetables. We have maps of far-away places, but father says that some places we will see are not even on the maps.
We are crossing the Mediterranean Sea. Sometimes there are big waves and I feel a little sea-sick. We soon reach Jerusalem. Kublai Khan asked father to get him some special oil there. He also wants teachers to come to China. He wants his people to learn our language, and to understand how we think and live.
