Holy Family Day School: If you are interested in having your student attend Holy Family Day School, please visit our website at www.holyfamilydayschool.org for more information. Then give us a call at 481-1180 to schedule a tour and meet our wonderful teachers! The Day School accepts students ages 2 ½ through Kindergarten and has a structured After School program for Public School students from John B. Dey, Trantwood and Alanton Elementary schools.

Our Thematic Based Learning Program is developmentally age appropriate. Each classroom concentrates on the same broad topic but, the activities and learning approaches vary according to age. With our excellent teacher/student ratios, each child is able to receive individualized attention so their abilities may be more easily recognized.

The Students Attend Chapel Every Morning. We help them understand the importance of God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, as well as learning about God’s Word in the Bible. The whole school sings and prays together to begin the new day. Understanding the significance of the Chapel space its self is also emphasized.

There Are Many Schoolwide Activities Planned throughout the year to reinforce learning experiences such as a visit from the SPCA, the Dentist (Dr. Dan Barton), a Fire Engine from Company 8, a Halloween Parade, Easter Egg Hunt, and two Music Programs. Our certified Music Specialist, Mrs. Woodall, teaches the children for half an hour, once a week. The Christmas and Spring Music programs bring the families of the Day School together to enjoy precious performances by our pupils!

Box Tops for Education and Farm Fresh Receipts: The Day School participates in these two programs. Over the years, we have gained many educational benefits with your help and continued support!

Happy Easter: During Lent, we hope you had time to reflect on how God works in your life. May He continue to bless us all with His love which is far greater than anything we could ever imagine. Have a safe, sunny, and happy Spring Break. School will resume Monday, April 13.

OPERATION RICE BOWL: Return your CRS Rice Bowl on Holy Thursday, April 2. You will be able to drop them off at the entrance of the Church before Mass.

TRIDUUM: YOU ARE INVITED! Holy Week is the most sacred time in the life of a parish community. It is what we have been preparing for all of Lent and is the highlight of what our faith life is all about. So don’t miss the best part! As we enter the holiest of weeks, know that your presence at these liturgies is important. Each service is unique: Holy Thursday (April 2 at 7:30 p.m.), with the washing of the feet and transfer of the Blessed Sacrament; Good Friday (April 3 at 7:30 p.m.), with the Passion and veneration of the cross; and Easter Vigil (April 4 at 8:00 p.m.), where we light the Easter fire, renew our baptismal promises and welcome the newly initiated. Don’t miss these celebrations! To prepare our hearts, minds, and bodies for this most Holy Week, everyone is invited to share a meal on Wednesday, April 1, at 6:30 p.m. Through prayer in song and by breaking bread together, we serve one another and the God of Love and of the Living. Please sign up in the Family Room and participate in what will become a Holy Family tradition of our spiritual journey as a family in our preparation into Holy Week. The theme is “God of Life and of the Living: a Focus on the Triduum.”

“LIVING OUR MISSION” CAMPAIGN The Living Our Mission campaign is presently underway at Church of the Holy Family. Through the effort of all the parishes in our diocese, this unprecedented endowment and capital campaign will enhance our Catholic faith all throughout Southern Virginia for generations to come. A major benefit of this campaign is that at least 1/3 of all funds raised will stay with each parish to be used however they determine. We plan on doing a combined campaign at our parish, which means that about 54% of all funds raised stays with our parish. Before inviting parishioners to consider making pledges, it is important to identify exactly where the funds that remain with our parish will be used. Preliminary ideas brought about by Fr. Gaudy, the Parish Council, Finance Council, Servant Leadership Team (Parish Staff), and the 25 year plan created by our parish in 2009 included a number of items. Repairs to the heating, ventilation & air conditioning (HVAC), upgrading our lighting system, addressing the sound system and acoustical engineering, modifications to the worship space layout, leveling the floor of the worship space, addition of cry room, and other ideas were presented to the parish at a town hall meeting. Parishioner responses from the town hall meeting indicated that further feedback and study should be conducted before settling on where the funds will be allocated. After conducting a feasibility study and reviewing some of the comments from the town hall meeting, some ideas originally discussed are being modified. This campaign offers our parish the opportunity to make an impact on a number of areas that are important to our community and will enhance our parish life. Therefore, some ideas are presented below in bullet format, highlighting areas our parish has identified as important. Please keep in mind, these ideas have not been finalized.

HVAC Repairs Sound and Acoustic Enhancements Lighting Repairs Increased Support to our Outreach Ministries Leveling the Floor of the Worship Space Retaining the Fan/Circular Chair Configuration Creating a Cry Room/Family Room

In the near future, there will be more communications and opportunities for our parish to provide feedback and to learn more. In the meantime, if you have any questions regarding this campaign, please see Father Gaudy or someone on the Servant Leadership Team (Parish Staff).

GRATITUDE AND EVANGELIZATION: We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to Mackenzie Codington, Tim Maguire, and our own Knights of Columbus for using their gifts to meet the needs of several parishioners. RECEPTION AFTER THE EASTER VIGIL: Please plan to attend the reception after the Easter Vigil and please bring finger hors d’oeuvres to share. All are Welcome!!

RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE UPDATE: I would like to thank everyone who participated in our Red Cross Blood Drive on March 6. We made 10 over on our goal!! Your gift goes a long way to help save lives. Thank you Glenn Rodriguez, Annette Gibson, Ray Michellini, Bev Flaschentrager, Bea Dennis, and John Skuro for your help in making this drive successful. Those who gave are eligible to give again in May. With God’s Blessings, thank you for your support,

Georgia Skuro, Red Cross Blood Drive Coordinator

Please help us restock by contributing any of our regular grocery bag items: Cereal, Oatmeal, Pancake Mix, Pancake Syrup, Coffee, Tea, Canned Soup, Canned Tuna, Peanut Butter & Jelly, Canned Meat, Canned Stew, Boxed Potatoes, Rice Mixes, Canned Fruit. From the 2015 Lenten Message of Pope Francis: God’s people, then, need this interior renewal, lest we become indifferent and withdraw into ourselves. To further this renewal, I would like to propose for our reflection three biblical texts. “During this Lent, then, brothers and sisters, let us all ask the Lord: “Fac cor nostrum secundum cor tuum:” Make our hearts like yours (Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus). In this way, we will receive a heart which is firm and merciful, attentive and generous, a heart which is not closed, indifferent or prey to the globalization of indifference.”

PRAYERS FOR OUR COUNTRY AND THE MILITARY: Every Friday, we say the Patriotic Rosary after the 9:00 Morning Mass. If you have a family member in the military and would like us to pray for them by name, please e-mail Mary Sorrentino at [email protected] with their name, branch of service and, if you like, a photo.

“CARE FOR OUR EARTH”March 22 was World Water Day which is becoming more and

more popular. My article is still applicable even though it is late being published. When severe droughts strike as they have in the past, we are limited in our use of city water. Water is a precious and limited resource. We can conserve this resource ourselves by voluntarily restricting our use of it. Some suggestions follow:

While you run your shower to heat up the water stick a bucket under the faucet and then use the water to flush the toilet or water the plants.

Water flows from the faucet at about 2.5 gallons a minute, so, turn off the tap while brushing your teeth and turn it back on to rinse. The same is true with washing your hands, turn the faucet off after you have wet your hands until you need to rinse.

Take your car to a car wash where the water is recycled. If you wash the car at home, at least, turn off the hose when you are not using it.

Older shower heads consume as much as 5 gallons a minute. Purchase efficient shower heads and turn off the faucet when soaping yourself down.

Every little bit of effort to conserve does make a difference!
