SURVEY METHOD
The geophysical exploration method Survey4Water uses is the VLF (very low frequency) method that can de-
tect conductive or resistive zones at depths up to 100 meters. The method measures the strength of a VLF carri-
er wave (15 to 30 kHz) of a military transmitter that communicates to submarines, called the primary field, and
the strength of a secondary field induced by the primary field in conductive or resistive bodies at depth. With
this method we are able to see the geological structures beneath the surface by their differences in conductivi-
ty/resistivity. While holding the VLF instrument at a certain compass heading, the operator takes readings every 10
meters along a survey transect 100 to 300 meters long. The field instrument records the response of two VLF transmit-
ters. The two VLF transmitter stations chosen are those whose bearings are closest to 90 degrees as possible from the
bearings of planned transects. See pages 4 thru 10 for the color profile views and aerial survey lines.
In areas of hard rock, only the fractures in the rock may yield enough water for a well. The contrast between
the low conductivity of the hard rock and the high conductivity of the groundwater in a fracture allows the frac-
ture to be detected. In sedimentary rock, the contrast will be between the low conductivity of clays and the
high conductivity of saturated sand and gravel strata. A good success rate of this method, Survey4Water can-
not guarantee water will be found in the recommended VLF zones, soundings to get “GPM” are used.
Probable test targets and nearby water well calibration of the Seimic sounding equipment well be reviewed on
site or by phone with you by Western Groundwater Surveys, Inc . Nathan Booth shall contact you to set up an
appointment. We thank you for using our team.
See page 2 for the survey outline aerial view plan for the (6) survey transits covered with the VLF transmitters
used to develop the color profiles. See page 3 for the best locations for soundings. Your (GPM) and depth cal-
culations using the Seimic Sounding Survey can be scheduled with field-Rep Mathan Booth (707) 837-6247.
