A Special Message From
Dr. Randy L. Bennett
Let’s Get Healthy!
As we are well into getting this year starting,
I am remembering back when … While working on my “to
do” list over the Memorial Day weekend I suddenly felt nauseous, weak, and
my legs felt like 1000 pound weights. My heart was racing and felt like it would
burst out of my chest. I went into the house to check my blood pressure. My
blood pressure was very low, my heart rate was very high, and my monitor
showed an irregular heartbeat. Those few moments changed my life for the
next two months. I had to “intentionally” reach out to my doctors for the help
I needed. It took time for them to respond and to set up the necessary tests.
Eventually I had an angiogram July 11 at Memorial Hospital. It showed a life
threatening blockage in my main artery to the heart. The cardiologist immedi-
ately placed a stent in the blocked artery.
I am now in the process of recovery! Follow up ... what
has happened since my angiogram? I started my cardio rehab a few months
after my heart procedure. I waited in order to finish some occupational thera-
py I was having on my arms – double tennis elbow! It was a painful process.
Once the pain began to subside in my arms I knew it was time to start the Car-
diac Rehab. I was expected to go to the rehab center 35 times. They sched-
uled me to come at 3 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. They
showed me what to do and I got started. I liked that they monitored my heart
while I exercised. Ten days ago I finished my 35th rehab session.
What should I do next? I got enrolled in the Medicare Silver
Sneakers program, joined In-Shape Gym and went to the gym orientation. A
few days later I went for my first session. My cardiac rehab was a limited pro-
gram – 35 sessions. My Silver Sneaker’s program is unlimited. For the good of
my heart I need to go there for the rest of my life.

This reminds me of short term church health projects versus long
term church health processes. Creating healthy small groups is a
long term strategy.
Offering specialized small groups are limited church health projects.
When a church finds itself in trouble spiritually it needs to find a
“quick” short term solution. While conducting the short term solu-
tion, plans need to be made for a lasting solution.
Randy, do you realize that what you’re describ-
ing is really hard to pull off? … I do! I didn’t find it easy to complete the 35 rehab sessions. I’ll find it even
harder to go to the gym regularly. Every Pastor is the number one
church health specialist for their church. What’s not working? What
can be done to make things better? The answers to these questions
are found on your knees in prayer.
Your Missionary,
Dr. Randy L. Bennett

The Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions focus-
es on Southern Baptist mission efforts in the United States and Canada.
Named in honor of Annie Armstrong, who served as a missionary in Balti-
more in the 19th century, the offering supports ministries of some 5,000
North American missionaries who serve through church planting, Bap-
tist centers, language ministries and evangelism.
The offering is traditionally featured near Easter each year. The North
American Mission Board produces many items to assist churches in em-
phasizing this important opportunity to support missions in the US
and Canada.
An integral part of the offering is the Week of Prayer and Mission Study.
For 2020, March 1-8 has been designated for the study. However, church
leaders may choose to conduct the study anytime during the Easter sea-
son or at another convenient time when North American missions is
emphasized.

The 2020 Tapestry theme is, "Seek Him With All Your Heart."
Tapestry is an exciting event with one purpose: celebrating God’s amazing love through diversity. It is planned just for you! Be blessed, encouraged and chal-lenged as we worship the One who created us.
Sessions are designed to help women be better equipped to make a difference in their community, family, church or workplace. Facilita-tors will deliver quality seminars and relevant, interactive workshops.

Roundup: Stronger Together In Scripture we see the importance of working together. The writer of Ecclesiastes
reminds us that two are better than one. Two can keep warm, two will have a
good return on their labor and two can defend themselves better than someone
alone. As minister’s wives we acknowledge that our “other” is the husband we
support in his ministry. But at times the support of another minster’s wife can be
the additional warmth in cold times, an extra hand in the work and roll of minis-
try, and a defender in time of attack or trouble. This year’s theme “Roundup:
Stronger Together” will focus on strengthening relationships with other minister’s
wives in order to be stronger together. Our main sessions will feature four differ-
ent minster’s wives focusing on the broad topics of vocation, marriage, parenting,
and celebrating as the spouse of a minister. The breakout sessions will further
enhance points where we as individuals and spouses can become
