• Deadelus makes wings with which he can fly. He escaped from the island with Icarus, but in the end he loses his son.

• Prometheus steals fire and gives it to human beings. He reaches his goal but is punished terribly.

• Because ignorant Icarus and defiant Prometheus ignore advice, they suffer terrible consqequences.

Story # 1 Plot Summary

• Prometheus asks Zeus why he did not give humans the gift of fire. Zeus explains that humans would misuse fire and have many troubles, including disease, war, old age, and worry. Prometheus disobeys Zeus and introduces fire to humans. When Zeus find out, he has Prometheus captured and chained to a rock, with two vultures to guard and torture Prometheus forever. Centuries later, Prometheus is finally rescued by Hercules.

Story # 2 Plot Summary

• King Minos has imprisoned the master architect Daedalus and his son, Icarus, on an island. Daedalus builds wings they can use to escape. He warns the boy not to fly too high or too low, but in the joy of flying, Icarus forgets the warning. When he flies too close to the sun, his wings melt, and in terror he falls to his death. Filled with grief, Daedalus vows never to attempt to fly again.
