Manor Life and Culture in the Hudson Valley The New Netherland Project and Historic Hudson Valley are joint sponsors for this one-day conference celebrating the Tercentenary of Philipsburg Manor. The conference will be held Saturday, October 16, 1993 at Philipsburg Manor on Route 9 in North Tarrytown. As the 16th Rensselaerswijck Seminar of the New Netherland Project, this conference will feature one speaker on the 17th century Dutch culture of the Hudson Valley upon which Philipsburg Manor was founded. The remaining five speakers will present papers on various aspects of 18th and 19th century manor life and culture, including the anti-rent wars, abolishment of slavery, material culture of a Huguenot settler, Dutch foodways, and social issues. This conference should be of special interest to historians of colonial New York, anthropologists, historic site interpreters, and educators.
