A WhatsApp Group @ Manasseh Family was alsosubsequently created to facilitate better and real timecommunication between the Manasseh brotherhoodliving in different parts in India and in differentcountries. Since its inception,the Manasseh FamilyWhatsApp group has been an important tool ofcommunication to exchange ideas, appreciation of oneanother among the Manasseh fraternity, and as aforum for continued discourse on how far back wecan trace our common roots and ancestry, for whichI am truly grateful. As the Psalmist eloquently puts itin Psalm 118:23: “The Lord has done this and it ismarvelous in our eyes”

While knowing all this, however, why do we leadersneed to come together for this meeting in Shillong,today? For example, as our Karbi brother rightlypointed out, “There are many of us who still do notfully understand nor comprehend the fact that we allareundeniably one”. Therefore, there is a great needfor the Manasseh family to meetand interact to shareour ideas with one another and to sensitize each otheron the history our common origin. It is also the intentof this meeting to come out with an officialcondemnation on the atrocities of the Burmese Armyupon our KachinBrother because the same fate orcatastrophecould befall any one of us in the future.Furthermore, we are all blood brothers, and therefore,how do we strengthen our filial bonds and ties, notonly in the field of cultural interactions, but also in thedifferent arenas of life. This is apertinent matter, whichI believe we all must seriously ponder over.

With the population explosion around the world, theage-old adage, “Survival of the Fittest” is in vogueagain. Everyone is asking, “Who is who? Who are we?Who am I? Where do I come from? Where are myroots?” In this present age, people are re-inventing theiridentity on a cultural basis;people are looking forbrothers with whom they share a cultural affinity.Unless we come together, realize our kinship and uniteas one with our blood brethren, we will not survive;we will be left behind, sidelined. On the other hand,

if we unite as true brothers ordained by blood,destined by the Lord, we will be in a position towithstand challenges and intense competition fromall sides.

We will survive; we will not only survive, we willthrive together, here, on the face of the earth!

For example, even in the northeast alone, there arevarious groups who aredemanding statehood likeKukis, Karbis, Bodos, Misings, Eastern NagalandPeople’s Organisation of Frontier Nagaland(ENPO),and certain groups in Tripura. If we observe thesedemands, what could be the solution? How couldwe all work together?is a thought we all have to bearin mind. What steps should we take? What measuresought we to adopt to strengthen ourselves so as toenable us to work in a true spirit of a unitedbrotherhood for a common cause?

In this year’s edition of ChavangKut: ‘Celebrationof Brotherhood’, our Chief Guest for the first dayi.e. the30th October 2016, Mr. Conrad K. Sangmarecalled his late father Mr. P.A. Sangma’svision fora separate parliament for the Northeast Region,which could not materialize during his lifetimebecause MPs from the Northeast placed the interestof their respective party far more paramount thanthat of the region as a whole. My response was thatthis was bound to be so as we append our identityto different groups such as Garo,Kuki, Naga,Kachari, Bodo. However, the moment the peoplerealize that they are one and of the same forebear i.e.Manasseh, irrespective of geographical locations orother forms of barriers then the (Late)

Pu P.A. Sangma’s vision could still become areality.

On this day, we need to think of how we may worktogether and be united and connected with all ourbrothersnot only in the northeastern part of India,but the whole of Asia. We who have come here fortoday’s meeting are mainly from the northeastofIndia, northwest Burma, and the Chittagong Hill-Tracts of Bangladesh. How are we going to enlargeour tent as the Bible says: Isaiah 54:2: Enlarge theplace of thy tent, and let them stretch forth thecurtains of thine habitations; spare not; lengthen thycords, and strengthen thy stakes.

This is an important question that each one of usought to think over, because God has revealed to Hischosen servants that our brothers are spread acrossthe Continent of Asia and what should we do to bringall those ethnic groups of Manasseh as one family.

Manasseh Asia Foundation (MAF) was chosen torepresent our organization. However, on secondthought, if we are to really take up issues of socio-political nature and speak out against injustices andatrocities meted out by Governments,e.g. theBurmese Government, Do you not think the namemay be inappropriate? Would it not be more suitableto rename the organisation as The ManassehIntegration Forum Asia (MIFA),keeping in mind thesocio-political, geo-political issues that thisorganization will have to take up every now andthen?Additionally,I would also like to propose thatour Manasseh organization should have a Chairmanand a Secretary, and the Vice Chairman and the JointSecretaries should be drawn from all of the 74 ethnicgroups of the Manasseh Community. These are my

humble suggestions;they are not meant to be final inany sense. We have come here to reason together;acollective decision is required for the organization toadopt.

Last year in the state of Nagaland, we witnessed theunfortunate ethnic conflagration between our brothersYimchunger and Chang, which resulted in theunnecessary destruction of properties and bad bloodbetween the two Manasseh groups. Had there been anorganization like Manasseh Asia Foundation or one thatwe may choose to name, timely intervention could havebeen made toavert the clashes and misunderstandingscould have been avoided altogether.

Hence, I implore all the members and brothers whoare present here today to put forth their ideas, plansand suggestions in a free and frank manner without anyreservations. We need to reflect on how we canstrengthen the bond of our brotherhood; how we mayfunction and move forward in the true spirit ofbrotherly love and understanding; how we shouldreach out to our cognate groups who are still lost?How do we convey and demonstrate our brotherhoodto the world?In the meantime, we also need to beready in all aspects as there are numerous challengesin so many fields in life. Soas to be able to face alleventualities, we need to make a declaration of ourbrotherhood and the fact that we are one at today’smeeting, and each one of us should take it as ourbounden duty to reinforce the spirit of our Manassehbrotherhood.

Therefore, kindlyshare whatever ideas you mayhave for the welfareof our brotherhood and ourfledging Manasseh organization. We will all discusstogether and adopt theproposals we all think is bestfor our common interests.Having realized that we arethe descendants of the same ancestor, the questionnow is how the Manasseh brothers should live in unity;strategies and measures that should be adopted toactualize our political aspirations; how we can worktogether as one to deal with the various aspects andarenas of life. It was this desire to be able to discussvital issues and deliberate upon in an atmosphere farremoved from the festivities of the Kut festival thattoday’s meeting @ the Shillong meeting wasconvened. With thisobjective in mind we haveconverged here to share our progressive thoughts andideas in an open and transparent discourse; about whatapproach we need to adopt for our ManassehCommunity orManasseh organization,which wouldbe good for all.

I knowDecember is already the busiest month ofthe yearwith Christmas just around the corner. It isalso that time of year when everyone is busy, withchildren appearing for annual exams. In spite of yourbusy schedule, you all have come to attend our meetingout of genuine concern for the Manasseh community.I am deeply touched and grateful. We have come hereto listen to one another’s opinions, thoughts andsuggestions on what would be the best approach forall of us and for the future course of action in regardto our Manasseh community.

We are brothers. It is my heartfelt desire that we putour heart and soul together, pool our thoughts and bringforth ideas which will be the best for us.

1. That, as per resolution No. 01 dated 11-03-2016 of the Khongsai Inpi (GHQ)Assembly held at Saikho village clearly prohibitted Khongsai Inpi(GHQ) and its unitsinvolvement from General Assembly Election in any form.

2. That, as per resolution No.03 dated 3rd Nov. 2016 of the 46-Saikul KhongsaiChiefs’ Emergency Meeting with 25 chiefs present declares the joint declaration ofthe khoingsai Haosa committee, Khongsai Inpi Sadar Hills and Saikul Block on 7thOct.2016 as null and void.

3. In view of the above reasons, the Khongsai village chiefs have neither discussednor taken any decision or resolved to support any single candidate till date.

We, the Chiefs of Khongsai family and its people under 46-Saikul A/C considerthe statement of Shri Thangminlen Kipgen declaring that 30 out of 35 KhongsaiChiefs supported Ch.Ajang is very unfortunate and unfounded.
