AIR SUPPCRT AEX TO AFTE ACTION REPCRT, LOJWST 1 94

Throughout Divisional operations in August 194, air upport operated withassault elements. Ground control of fighter bombers war maintai in eachCombat 1 n through the use of V radios installed in m tanks. Eachground control station vas maimed both by a Grcand Force officer ad an AirCorps fighter pilot.

Except during the latter part of the month, weather conditions weregenerally favorable for flying operations, and air support flterially aidedthe Div in accomplishing its assigned missions. During the GU-sBxyc-DCWRONT operation (7 to 15 Aug) many cnemy tanks and guna were destroyed orneutralised by divn bombing; infantry and transport of all types were strafed.

The TOIROWeELUF OFFENSIVE (20 to 26 Aug) was well supported by planes.Column cover was flown regularly, accept on 21 Aug when inclement weather "curtailed air operations. Toward the end of this operation any barges trans-porting enemy troops, attempting to escape across the 5 River in theELSBUF area, were sunk or damaged by fighter boabers. Planes were of sub-stantial assistance in overcoming stubborn enemy resistance around 3123W.Many tanks and AT guns were destroyed.

During the S&UVAIS-MONmIDm pursuit (29 to 31 Aug) much of theavailable air cover was diverted to the strafing and bombing of enem trafficfleeing to the northeast. Oover over the Imediate vicinity of our colmnswas light as enemy resistance to oar advance was for tbe most part ineffective.
