Public enterprises, sometimes called also state owned enterprises, still remain an important and also considerable part of national economies all around the world. They employ a lot of successful professionals with in-depth distinct professional knowledge, usually in technological areas or in public administration, who often lack management knowledge which will enable them successful management careers. Due to an increasing demand for such education, FEB has decided to offer a Master’s programme Management of Public Enterprises, which combines general MBA with specifics of public enterprises and is specially designed for high-achieving professionals who have earned their bachelor’s degrees in social, technical, natural and all other sciences and who wish to take the next major step in their careers.

FEB Master’s programme Management of Public Enterprises is offered as a two-year MBA programme and is open to young professionals who have already earned their undergraduate degrees. It is unique because it covers two key fields for a successful career in management, i.e. general MBA knowledge adjusted to Public Enterprises and specific knowledge key of business functions important for Public Enterprises.

The programme covers broad range of topics from strategic management to finance management, marketing management, information management, human resources management to organizational theory, international economic order and others. Topics are covered in depth by combining theoretical knowledge in both fields with practice-oriented applications. It examines the most up-to-date concepts in all major business areas at the advanced level. The participants develop both academic excellence and practical hands-on skills they will need to succeed in their careers.

As a two-year full-time MBA programme FEB Master’s programme Management of Public Enterprises is fully taught in English. The programme comprises:

• 15 core courses, which provide a comprehensive understanding of public enterprises within national economies and in globalised world;• 3 elective courses, which offer individual professional specialisations;• Master’s thesis, a project-based work which puts new learning to work.

The two-year Master’s programme Management of Public Enterprises offers participants, whichever undergraduate (bachelor’s) degree they hold, to reach new professional heights. Within the programme, the participants build on the skills and knowledge they have already acquired in their prior studies and professional life.

Slovenia, the green heart of Europe, lies between the mountainous Austria and Italy, flat Hungary and the warm Adriatic Sea.

It is a nice surprise for many visitors from all over the world. Snowy Alpine peaks and the Triglav National Park with many glacial valleys, gorges, waterfalls, lakes, and crystal-clear wild waters attract visitors looking for peace in the mountains as well as sports climbers, skiers, canoeists, gliders in search for relaxation and excitement in everyday life.

There are many underworld caves, from the world famous Postojnska Cave with beautiful stalactites, pillars and rocky curtains and UNESCO's Škocjan Caves to grottos that are difficult to access, where you can climb only with the help of experienced local guides. In Lipica (Karst) sheltered by century-old lime trees there is an over 400 years old stud farm of Lipizzaners, the world famous white horses with their origin in Slovenia.

Bled with an island in the middle of a lake and a mighty cliff-top castle is the Alpine tourist centre.

The Karst region with its caves, plateaus, fields, disappearing streams, and a periodic lake offers many possibilities for exploring and discovering Slovenia.

Maribor, whose origins as a town can be traced back to the 13th century, is today the second largest city (95.171 inhabitants in January 2011) of Slovenia and represents the centre of Slovenian Styria (Štajerska) region.

Maribor lies in the embrace of the green Pohorje mountains and wine growing hills, at both sides of the river Drava. Pohorje is a skiing centre in winter and a place for hiking, cycling, and recreation all year round. In the municipality of Maribor there is a large number of protected natural sights: three regional/landscape parks (Drava, Trije ribniki, Mariborsko jezero), a natural reserve (Mariborski otok) and others.

The city’s character has been shaped by its industry, which once performed a significant role in the Slovenian economy. Apart from that, Maribor offers a rich and varied cultural experience to inhabitants and visitors. In addition to many cultural events, the citizens can enjoy the city’s beautiful and relaxing surroundings as it lies at the foothills of the Pohorje mountains, providing several outdoor activities such as hiking and skiing.

Special events, such as the traditional Golden Fox Trophy, a Women’s Ski World Cup competition, as well as the international multicultural Festival Lent and events around the Old Vine provide a particularly animated atmosphere. Maribor is also known for its excellent wines, as many vineyards surround the city.

Moreover, with its University, Maribor is also a city with a distinguished intellectual potential. The fact that the town has chosen to call itself “the University city” denotes its awareness of the importance of education and research in its development.
