SPECIFICATION NOTES:
· All landscape operations to be in accordance with BS 4428: 1989 & BS 3936: 1992 and all amendments to date;· Existing topsoil to be stripped and stored on site in heaps not exceeding 2m height and kept weed free;· Existing ground which is to be planted / seeded shall be prepared by hand weeding / scrub clearance or herbicide treatment to clear scrub and remove
grass and weeds for a minimum 300mm diameter around each planting site;· Bare root transplants shall be notch planted into existing ground;· Any imported topsoil shall be to BS 3882, medium texture, neutral pH value, reasonably stone free with no stones over 20mm in size;· Where soil cover in made up ground is less than 150mm depth, each planting site for copse, shrub and hedge planting to be broken up to form a pit
300x300x300mm, with backfill comprising 50% topsoil or planting compost incorporated with 50% subsoil;· 50mm topsoil to be spread over cultivated subsoil prior to grass seeding;· Subsoil to be cultivated to a fine tilth for wildflower areas with no additional topsoil or fertiliser added;· Finished soil levels to be graded to smooth and flowing levels and to 25mm above any adjacent path surfaces;· All native planting stock to be sourced with local provenance;· All transplants to be notch planted into existing soil or planted into prepared pits (as above) and planted in groups of 3-5 of the same species;· Feathered tree planting to be spaced roughly evenly throughout the area and planted in pits 300x300x300mm (as above) and supported with a stub
stake and single Tom Tie;· Hedge and shrub transplants to be supplied with canes and spiral rabbit guards, 38mm diameter x 60cm height (from Acorn Planting Products or
similar approved, Tel: 01508 528763) where not enclosed by rabbit proof fencing;· Rabbit proof fence to be provided around copse planting area, or plants to be individually guarded as above;· Existing copse area adjacent to temporary access to be interplanted with native copse mix as necessary;· Trees to be planted in soil pits 600 diameter x 450mm deep, backfilled with 60% topsoil or planting compost and 40% subsoil, supported by a single
stub stake and rubber Tom ties;· All tree planting sites to be covered with a 600mm diameter area of 75mm depth of medium grade bark mulch;· Grass seed mix to be Emorsgate EG21 'Fine Amenity Turfgrass Mixture' or similar approved to Golf Club specification;· Wildflower mix to be Emorsgate EM6 'Meadow Mixture for Chalk and Limestone Soils' sown in accordance with supplier's recommendations;· All planting to be maintained and guaranteed for 5 years to include watering, weeding, pest & disease control.
MANAGEMENT NOTES:
· All planting and seeding to be maintained andguaranteed for 5 years, to include weeding300mm diameter area around each plant, pest &disease control;
· Grass areas to be cut regularly in accordancewith Golf Course overall maintenance regime;
· Wildflower areas to be cut once or twice a year inaccordance with supplier's recommendations;
· Tree stakes and ties should be checked annuallyand adjusted as necessary;
· Tree stakes and ties, together with rabbit guardsshould be removed after 5 years or when the treesare sufficiently established;
· Hedgerows should be managed by cutting sectionson a two-three year rotation across the site tomaintain a dense bushy structure with a minimumheight of 2-3m along the road frontage andminimum 1.2m height along the public footpath;
· The native copse should be managed to encouragethe tree species to achieve maturity (in particularthe climax beech, oak & lime trees), whilstmaintaining areas of diverse understory shrubcover. Thinning of the mix to achieve this should becarried out initially after 10 -15 years of plantingand thereafter as necessary to maintain a diversespecies mix with mature trees.
