Gavin spoke on the Fathers Day drive. 12 vehicles met at the donut before heading South on the Pacific Highway and turning East to Jolly Nose lookout via some steep and rocky terrain. Then down to Queens Lake for morning tea. Back into the vehicles, then through some deep muddy puddles that provided entertainment for everyone. Next out through Kew & Kendall then onto the Bird Tree before heading up to the lookout on Middle Brother. Starting to get late now, so back onto the Highway to the Harrington Hotel (where some of us waited 2 hours for lunch to be served). Back home via Crowdy Head, Diamond Head and Laurieton. A fantastic day, with great weather. Some newer members had their first experience of low range driving. Thanks everyone for attending.

October Long Weekend Trip When: Fri 30/9 to Monday 3/10 Where: Walcha Area I’m doing a quick camping trip up the Walcha area this coming October long weekend. The plan is to leave the Donut at Port at 2pm Friday afternoon and head to Tia falls Campground for the Friday Night. Tia Falls has only 5 camp sites. But it is quite a large area. On Saturday Morning head through Walcha via Apsley Motors to pick up a key, then travel down to Riverside Camp ground North East of Walcha in the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park. Stay at Riverside on Saturday night then mid-morning travel back though Walcha to Mooraback Camping area to stay Sunday night. Then back towards Port Monday, arriving back mid-afternoon. Tia Falls and Mooraback Camp grounds both only have 5 sites; extra sites are available at Apsley Falls, on the way up or Brushy Mountain on the way back. It is a long weekend so they may be needed. Riverside Campground has 12 sites that need to be booked, anyone interested will need to contact Apsley Motors in Walcha to book a site, phone: 02 6777 2755. Fees apply. National Parks advise that Riverside Camp area is accessible to high clearance 4wds with low range only. And no camper trailers are permitted. There is camper trail access to Budds Mare about 7klms from riverside, 3 camp sites only. Anyone interested can contact me on 0427 775 168. Tony Lievore.

Georges Junction Camping Information There has been much conjecture recently regarding the supposed closing of the camping area at Georges Junction. To clear things up, Ross Fuller from the Northern Tablelands Local Land Services provided the following information. Hopefully this puts to rest any unsubstantiated rumours. As a bonus, he also clarifies what activities can be undertaken within a TSR (Travelling Stock Reserve). ‘Please be aware that TSR are available for passive recreation only which means no vehicles, no fires and no camping. There are similar values and therefore restrictions as a National Park where, unless you have a permit, you can take nothing but photos and leave nothing but footprints, except you can fish in a TSR between sunrise and sunset. Regarding Georges Junction, there is an area near the toilets shown on the attached map that is available for camping - purple shading is TSR, the un-shaded section near the toilets is council land and available for camping. It gets busy in school holidays and long weekends but there are alternate camping sites at Blackbird Flat and Cracknback Campground’.

Notification: Arkstone Entrance Closure, ARNP

A large ‘bog hole’ has appeared on the ‘laneway’ leading up to the park entrance and there is no way around it.

Vehicles have been getting bogged and needing to winch out & others have been trying to drive around onto

private property (& still getting bogged!). It’s a total mess now and will not dry out until the sub-surface

waterline drops. Council have been notified and hopefully will be able to put a truck or 2 of gravel down but

they are very busy with similar jobs in the area.

Entry to Abercrombie River NP is via Felled Timber Road but take the right hand track after the grid (Northern

Boundary Trail) as there is another bog hole on the track that goes straight ahead. I’ve attached a map showing

changes conditions.

Also, can we lock-in the weekend of the 5th & 6th for tree planning at The Glen? Won’t need too many people

as we will be holding another tree planting day in autumn.
