Step 1: Satisfy the program’s grammarproficiency requirement by earning an“A” or an “A ‐“in Comp I and Comp II or
by passing an examination. TheJournalism program also accepts high
schools’ Advanced Placement courses.
Step 2: Submit a one‐page typed essay that explains why you want to beaccepted as journalism major. Don’tforget to describe your experience andcareer plans.
Step 3: Have a high grade pointaverage: typically, a minimum of a “B”average.

As a School moving toward accreditation, TheNicholson School of Communication strives to
become one of the 101 programs that the Accrediting Council for Education inJournalism and Mass Communication(ACEJMC). The college offers a Bachelor’sdegree in journalism and a minor in magazine
journalism. The program is limited access basedon grade point average and acceptsapproximately 20 students in its three terms.Journalism at the School highlights nurturingthe democratic process by informing the pressabout events, trends, and developments ingovernment and society.
Journalism majors develop skills that areapplicable to a variety of careers. Some careersinclude: writing and editing, visualcommunication, research, presentation, and
computer skills.
Students are given the opportunity to engage instudent clubs such as the Society of ProfessionalJournalists, National Association of Black Journalists, National Press Photographers
Association, Kappa Tau Alpha Honor Society,and ED2010, better known as “Magazine Club.”
