Maisons de ModeAn unprecedented project promoting fashion labels.

Maisons de Mode supports 30 fashion and accessories labels and designers every year with : boutiques-ate-liers in Lille and Roubaix ; six ateliers set up for ‘green shoots’ at the heart of the Jardin de Mode ; 400 points of sale around the world for our various designers ; 20,000 Facebook fans; and 450,000 followers on Twitter.

Origins

The Lille metropolitan area has a rich textile history and ideal geographic location for business. In 2007, the region launched a project to promote developing new fashion labels : Maisons de Mode. Combining an important policy of urban renewal with a desire to launch a veritable fashion player in the north of France, the cities of Lille and Roubaix joined forces around the same goal : to develop fashion design by offering services and locations dedica-ted to emerging labels.This ambitious project was developed by and continues to be financed by the Lille Métropole Communauté Urbaine. It also receives support from the Conseil Régional Nord-Pas-de-Calais Picardie and the cities of Lille and Roubaix.

Objectives

• To recruit and guide designers at different stages in their careers, from ‘green shoots’ creating their first col-lections to emerging designers with two or three seasons under their belt and a few points of sale wishing to further develop their brands• To revitalise the two neighbourhoods in Lille and Rou-baix benefiting from their status as ‘free zones’• To spark a fashion movement in the metropolitan Lille area that brings national and international renown to the most promising talents.

Following selection by a committee of fashion industry professionals, designers receive personalised assistance for a renewable period of 24 months

• Renovated boutique-ateliers at reduced rents • Training in prototyping, sales & merchandising, com-munications, e-commerce, putting together a collection, branding and more • Professional and business networking • Guidance through the fashion ‘trenches’ • Guidance in seeking financing• Financial aid for participation in fashion trade fairs in France and abroad• Guidance in marketing, distribution and e-commerce• Public relations and exposure on blogs, through social media, etc.• The opportunity to participation in and be promoted through renowned Maisons de Mode events such as the Marché des Modes, the Nuit des Soldes and the 48H Mai-sons de Mode

Locations

In Lille, 7 boutique/studios & 5 apartments are devoted to designers. The Jardin de Mode, a renovated former cinema featuring six design studios, welcomes jeunes pousses (green shoots), with a patternmaking studio and an events space as well.

In Roubaix, 15 boutique: eight in the heart of Le Ves-tiaire and seven boutiques on Avenue Jean Lebas. Le Vestiaire is a huge, renovated. loft-like space adjacent to Roubaix’s famed Musée La Piscine, housing a bar and a fashion and design collective : Le Grand Bassin.

Events • The Marché des Modes fashion market weekend brings together more than 100 designers from all over France, attracting over 15,000 at each edition. • The Nuit des Soldes sales night allows designers to sell remaining stock at Lille’s Jardin de Mode in a unique and festive ambiance. • The annual 48h Maisons de Mode, the project’s head-lining event, is a weekend-long fashion festival attracting up to 17,000 spectators and participants every year. On the programme: fashion shows, various interactive activi-ties centered around fashion and creativity, pop-up shops, exhibitions, sales, parties and more…

Conceived, created and produced in small series, these new labels offer originality and soul to consumers looking for something different than what’s available from major fashion labels.

MISSIONThe cities of Lille and Roubaix are united behind one goal: to develop creativity in textiles by offering services, assistance and spaces to new fashion designers who will contribute to the resurgence of Northern France’s textile industry.

This unprecedented, ambitious project has the backing of not only these two cities but also of MEL and the Conseil Régio-nal. Designers and brands are set up in renovated studios in Lille and Roubaix, where they receive individual, personalised guidance and advice through each stage of their development.

MAISONS DE MODE’S OBJECTIVES :• To identify and guide emerging designers with an already established clothing or accessory brand in developing their businesses for the long run.

• To revitalise the two neighbourhoods in Lille and Roubaix where the designers are set up.

• To spark a fashion movement in the metropolitan Lille area that brings national and international attention to the most promising talents.

Article 1- OrganiserThe association Maisons de Mode, located at 58-60 Rue du Faubourg des Postes in Lille, France is organising a competition entitled: 2016 Maisons de Mode Grand Prize Competition, which takes place according the following schedule :

Article 2 - The participants and terms and conditions of participation Maisons de Mode Grand Prize Competition contestants are required :

• to have been of the age of majority by 1 January 2016.• to establish their headquarters in the Lille Metropolitan area to ensure the development of their label if they are selected.• to show up in person.• to be of any nationality, status or professional situation.• to speak French and/or English.• to present a project or a company–through either an individual or a team–in the fashion sector (ready-to-wear, jewellery, leather goods or other specific fashion items).

Businesses applying to join Maisons de Mode can be companies or the self-employed, as long as they fall within the limits of the application process.

Prior and during the competition, contestants cannot be affiliated with: any business involved with awarding the Maisons de Mode Grand Prize ; designers already installed in Maisons de Mode (boutique or incubators) ; members of the selection committee or their families ; or Maisons de Mode or their partners.

Article 3 - Business project The Maisons de Mode Grand Prize Competition is for entrepreneurs in the fashion sectors of ready-to-wear and accessories.

The selection committee can make exceptions for projects that have an added value for products of the fashion industry.

Article 4 - Composition of the ApplicationThe application for the 2016 Maisons de Mode Grand Prize Competition is available :

• for download at www.maisonsdemode.com.• by request at the following email address : [email protected].• by request at the Jardin de Mode, 58-60 rue du Faubourg des Postes, Lille, FRANCE.

In order to best evaluate each application, we require that each Maisons de Mode Grand Prize Competition applicant furnish the following:

• a photocopy of proof of identity• The completely filled-in and signed document with required information • A CV of the applicant and of each member of his/her team • A lookbook• A press book • A detailed plan for a collection (presentation of silhouettes, materials and fact sheets outlining other essentials) • A three-year business plan including : a forecast of an operating account, a financial plan and, for businesses already established, the most recent and complete financial statements• Official registration documents of your business

Any application that is deemed incomplete, not specific or insufficient will be automatically disqualified.The applicant signing the application attests to the veracity and accuracy of all the information he/she furnishes therein.

Article 5 - Submission of the application

Complete applications can be submitted to Maisons de Mode in the following ways :

• by email or Wetransfer to [email protected]• by post to Nicolas Nesson, Maisons de Mode, 58-60 rue du Faubourg des Postes ; Lille, FRANCE.All applications by post must include information and materials on CD-rom or USB drive to allow for evaluation of the application on compu-ter.

There are four dates to remember for application deadlines, with mailed applications needing a postmark to prove meeting the deadline :

• by midnight 15 February 2016• by midnight 15 March 2016 • by midnight 15 April 2016• by midnight 15 May 2016

Applications that are deemed complete will be examined for pre-selection by the Maisons de Mode team. At the end of their deliberations, they will contact applicants by email within a fortnight.

It is the responsibility of the applicant to present his/her own project; an intern, representative or agent who is not a part of the applicant’s company/business cannot appear on behalf of the applicant before the committee.

Article 6 - Criteria, terms and conditions for selection

Pre-selected candidates will be invited to present and explain their projects before a selection committee that will decide what projects will be accepted to become part of Maisons de Mode.

Each candidate who participates in one of the three sessions will become eligible to win an allocation of 25.000€ (taxes included), provided they meet certain criteria discussed below.

The winner of the Maisons de Mode Grand Prize Competition must be under contract in the Maisons de Mode project of designer support and under contract with MEL (Métropole Européenne de Lille) in the rental of a boutique.

The selection committee will base its choice on the following criteria :

• the designer’s commitment to his/her project• the fashion impact of the project• the potential shown in the collection presented• the project’s economic viability • the coherence of the project’s goals • the quality of the application received (the complete application)

Decisions taken by Maisons de Mode and the selection committee are final and cannot be appealed.

Article 7 - Composition of the selection committee

Maisons de Mode will call on a selection committee composed of fashion professionals from the following domains :

• the industry• the media• brands and multi-brand boutiques• trade fair professionals• federations and institutions• schools

Article 8 - Description of the prize

Applicants chosen to appear before the selection committee will be eligible for the competition to win the 2016 Maisons de Mode Grand

Prize, providing they meet certain criteria.

Those criteria are :

• contracting to be under Maisons de Mode’s programme of professional guidance for a minimum of 2 years.• contracting with MEL for the rental of an atelier/boutique devoted to their Maisons de Mode project for a minimum of 2 years in Lille (Rue du Faubourg des Postes) or in Roubaix (Avenue Jean Lebas or Rue de l’Espérance).The selection committee will convene in September to choose from the remaining applications a winner of the 25.000€. (It is possible that the applicant be called to present his/her business before the committee once again). The 25.000€ (taxes included) award will be divided in the following manner:• 20.000€ will allow applicants professionnel et immatriculé (confectionneurs, fournisseurs, agences de communication, imprimeurs) intervenant dans le processus de développement de l’entreprise.• 5.000€ (taxes included) allowing the winner to pay for representation (trade fairs, showrooms, etc …) which will be immediately covered by Maisons de Mode. These expenses are an expected part of marketing one’s business. The sum of 5.000€ (taxes included) will constitute assistance by Maisons de Mode to these endeavours until the funds are exhausted.

These monies will be disbursed and available from the year of signing contracts with Maisons de Mode and MEL.The 2016 Maisons de Mode Grand Prize, the professional guidance and support from the organisation and the rental of an atelier/boutique in MEL are all non-negotiable elements of the prize.

Refusal of any part of the above by an applicant means the rejection of the total prize.

In addition, any winner who chooses to leave the programme before the end of the two-year contract will be required to reimburse the prize

money and amounts spent on his/her behalf.

Furthermore, the Maisons de Mode selection committee reserves the right to decline to award the 25.000€ for the 2016 Maisons de Mode

Grand Prize Competition if none of the applications meet the high level of professional quality expected by the committee.

Article 9 - Competition results and awarding of the prize

The 2016 Maisons de Mode Grand Prize Competition winner will be announced during the 48H Maisons de Mode in October 2016.

All competitors must :

• be under contract with Maisons de Mode and already residing and working in the region if chosen.• have done what is required to deliver their collections for the fashion show. • be installed in a boutique/atelier devoted to the project in either Lille or Roubaix.

Article 10 - Confidentiality and publicity

Maisons de Mode maintains the confidentiality of all applications received as well as the selection committee deliberations. Each applicant will be notified by post of the results of his/her application to be accepted into Maisons de Mode.

Maisons de Mode reserves the right to communicate information about chosen applicants to the media (the press, online, television, radio, etc ...) in connection with the 2016 Maisons de Mode Grand Prize competition.

Article 11 - Intellectual property

Maisons de Mode, through its public relations department and website, reserves the right to communicate about each applicant through his/her collections, photographs and all iconographic elements; as such, every applicant competing for the 2016 Maisons de Mode Grand Prize swears to be to owner of all intellectual property of the project that he/she is presenting.

Article 12 - Requirements

Every applicant competing in the 2016 Maisons de Mode Grand Prize competition and submitting an application agrees to :

• accept the rules and regulations and the reasoned decisions of the pre-selection committee.• present him-/herself before the selection committee on the dates determined by Maisons de Mode and to accept the reasoned deci-sions of the selection committee.• sign the Maisons de Mode contract covering the support programme and to honor its requirements.• set up shop in a boutique/atelier in either Lille or Roubaix, while respecting the opening hours designated by Maisons de Mode.• register eventually his/her business in Lille or Roubaix.• be the active agent for developing his/her business in synergy with the advice, guidance and recommendations of Maisons de Mode.• be agreeable to all media requests promoting the 2016 Maisons de Mode Grand Prize Competition.Any damaging information intentionally or unintentionally omitted in the application process or any unexplained absence will result in the elimination of the application from the competition and the Maisons de Mode project.

The winner of the 25.000€ can make use of the prize only on the condition of joining Maisons de Mode for a minimum of two years. The breaking of the contract with Maisons de Mode or MEL before the end of the two-year minimum will result in the requirement of the winner refunding all prize money spent on his/her behalf or awarded.

Article 13 - Modifications and cancellations

Maisons de Mode reserves the right at any moment to modify moment, shorten or cancel the Maisons de Mode Grand Prize competition if circumstances demand it. In this event, the actions of Maisons de Mode cannot be challenged.

Article 14 - Laws on data access

In accordance with the law «Information Technology and Freedoms» of 06/01/1978, the candidates have a right to access and correct personal data by writing to the address listed in article 4 of this Regulation. The information provided by the candidates is intended only for management of this competition.

Article 15 - Area of jurisdiction

The competition is governed by French law. Any disputes or differences will be arbitrated by the Maisons de Mode selection committee.Any legal action will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the Court of Appeals of Douai.

Article 16 - Depot and consultation of the rules

Rules and regulations regarding the 2016 Maisons de Mode Grand Prize Competition are available at the association’s headquarters and are available free of charge to any one making a written request to the following address: Maisons de Mode, 58-60 Rue du Faubourg des Postes, Lille.

Reimbursement for postage will be made on written request accompanied by bank details or postal payment details according to postage rates for a shipment of a maximum of 20 g.

The complete rules and regulations of the competition are on file at the practice of the honorable Frédéric Dussart, bailiff, 63 Avenue du Peuple Belge – BP 90067 – 59009 LILLE CEDEX FRANCE.

The rules and regulations can be modified at any moment at the discretion of the organising association with respect to the conditions stated.

Changes will be filed with the bailiff before their publication.
