BACK INTO THE SWING OF THINGSOver the past two weeks, there has been a sense of normality return as all year levels made their way back to school after an extended period of learning online from home. The energy around the school has been positive with both students and teachers happy to get back into the educational swing of things.

Inside the classroom, students are once again getting the chance to experience hands on learning with practical lessons now back on.

Year 10 and 11 Film & TV students received Mr Gunn’s top techni-cal tips on how to incorporate a green screen and lighting into their filming as they learn about special effects before starting their unit on genre films.

The calorimetry process was the topic for Mrs Stone’s Year 11 Chem-istry students who spent their practical lesson measuring the amount of heat produced during a reaction. Students tested this process on both hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide.

Mr Goldenstein’s Year 12 Furnishing class have been busy working on their assessment piece, a squatters chair. Over the course of 2 terms, the students will extend on skills while maintaining safe workplace handling practices on various equipment like the wood lathe, band-saw and table router.

EXPERT WRITER INSPIRES STUDENTS DURING WRITING WORKSHOPS Our Year 11 English students and Year 12 Literature students were able to benefit from the expertise of writer and University of the Sunshine Coast academic, Dr Maria Arena, in a number of writing workshops conducted this week. Dr Arena schooled students on the basics of narrative writing, affording them opportunity to collaborate and practise their writing skills.

According to Dr Arena, students participated enthusiastically and produced some impressive responses. Experiences such as these will well prepare our students for their upcoming written assessment. Teachers are looking forward to the positive outcomes that will no doubt be forthcoming.
