• There is a faded vintage effect on the dominant image to represent the long historical roots of rock music

• Faded image shows visual flair of magazine to make it stand out against others of its kind

• The faded grey, blacks and whites match the moody and blank expressions of the cover stars

• Black and grey and sombre colours matching the sad emotions in many rock songs

• NME would not use fluorescent colour palettes as that would suggest pop music rather than rock

• Masthead is slightly unconventional as it does not stretch across the whole top of the magazine. This may show that the genre of rock is unconventional

• Use of “NME” logo is easily identifiable as it is an established and popular brand

• Use of house colour red also helps brand recognition. The red could connote danger and rebellion which is stereotypical of rock music

• Use of tag-line within logo “New Musical Express” to teach readers what the logo represents

• One of the Cover stars head is covering the logo/masthead portraying that the brand can be recognised even with obstruction

• Cover line lists other bands featured within the issue to attract a wider audience

•BBC is an extremely well known institution establishing the stature of “Top of the Pops”

• Use of tagline “THE UK’S FAVOURITE CLASSICAL MUSIC MAGAZINE” to display achievement and popularity of magazine which makes audience prefer it over others
