MacroBurn Incinerators

Macrotec designs and manufactures a range of high quality Incinerators for General Waste, Animal Carcasses, and Medical Waste. Our Incinerators are designed to reduce emissions by controlling the rate of combustion in a two chamber process, and is manufactured to operate in any conditions, any place on earth. This has resulted in our units being used in over 80 countries.

Any MacroBurn Incinerator can be optionally fitted with Gas Scrubbing and a Ceramic Filtration Plant, which includes an Acid Gas dosing unit, Activated Carbon Ingestor, and a Heat Exchanger to reduce outlet gasses to below 200°C.

This results in a world leading design, with gaseous emissions complying with South African and International Standards.

Typical Uses

Our Incinerators are designed for multiple uses:• General Waste• Medical Waste• Animal Carcasses• Plastic• Waste Water (H Series)

Our Incinerator

MacroBurn Incinerators are manufactured utilising high standards of technology that have been developed through many years of experience in building high quality, economical, and reliable incinerators. Macrotec have designed incinerators that provide outstanding performance and have an exceptional life-span. Our Incinerators are also fitted with fully automatic control panels, in the case of the Incinerator Plant with Gas Scrubbing, it is a PLC based system that regulates and controls the system, as well as the rate of combustion.

MacroBurn Incinerators utilise a two chamber burning approach, that ensures full combustion control and elimination of noxious emissions. These emissions can be categorised in 3 groups; Carbonaceous Matter, Entrained Ash, and Chemically Formed Compounds. These emissions are not only prevented by our Gas Scrubbing equipment, but also by the way our Incinerator works.

The most important factors to our Incinerator Controlling Emissions are:

• Complete Combustion: This is achieved by controlling the level of oxygen, the time gasses spend in each chamber, and the amount of turbulence that ensures that volatiles and heat are thoroughly mixed.• Large Settling Chambers: These chambers remove the fine particles or flakes of incombustible material that is entrained in the gas stream. • Rate of Combustion: This is done by controlling the four factors that control the rate of combustion, namely; a modulated supply of heat and air that results in heat, air, and hot gasses moving in a horizontal vortex from the primary to secondary chamber; a portion of induced negative air in the primary chamber; air for the secondary chamber being induced by Venturi Action; and the use of natural draught chimneys.

Environmental Impact

Macrotec has designed these Incinerator Plants to combat every possible threat it could pose to the environment. We make use of advanced designs in our combustion plant, which completely regulates the combustion rate, temperature in the different chambers, turbulence, gas velocities and supply of oxygen. This prevents formation and eliminates all carbonaceous matter, entrained ash, and chemically formed compounds.

Our Incinerator also operates at a very high temperature, and by using Heat Exchangers we are able to drop the temperature by over 600°C within a meter. This helps prevent the formation of dioxins and furans, which are further neutralised by eliminating acid gasses before they are able to form dioxins and furans, and by using Activated Carbon the residue dioxins and furans are absorbed.

In addition, we utilise a highly advanced Ceramic Filtration Plant in combination with Activated Carbon dosing and Acid Gas dosing. The filtration plants make use of high temperature ceramic filter elements that are able to withstand temperatures of up to 1,200°C with high resistance to attack by acids and alkalis.

Sizing an Incinerator

Since the burning rate of waste varies according to the characteristics of the waste, the variation is taken into account by comparing the waste with General Refuse, which is defined as:

Calorific Value: 4600 kcal/kgMoisture: 15% maxDensity: 160 kg/m³Ash: 5%

Dry, loose office waste, having only small quantities of food, plastics or dense packed paper, is typical of General Refuse. The ratio between the weight of general refuse and the weight of a particular waste that an incinerator can burn is called the General Refuse Equivalent Factor (G.R.E. Factor).
