COLOUR & WATERCOLOUR PAINTING Using colour effectively can be a challenge. If used well, colour has the power to enhance the creative possibilities in watercolour painting. children +youthART AND DESIGNThese summer camps are designed for youth interested in exploring art from digital photography to illustration. Camps are hands–on and project–based under the direction of a practicing artist or professional in their field, and include an exhibition of student work. BLUES DANCE Blues dance allows for freedom, expression and a connection with slow and soulful blues, blues fusion and alternative music. This fun social dance, with roots in the southern blues tradition, is both elegant and down to earth. The basic core step of blues dance allows for lots of variations and rhythms. PROJECTS IN PORTRAITUREGo beyond the obvious and capture portraits with meaning. Create a portfolio of formal, candid, and editorial portraits in this project based course. Learn to take compelling portraits using available light, on and off camera flash, and studio lighting techniques. SPEEDLIGHTINGExpand your technical know-how and creative abilities with this comprehensive speedlighting course. Start with flash settings and features such as manual, TTL, direct, bounce, off-camera and more. Then, explore the quality, colour and direction of light as it relates to your camera and flash. Models are featured for in-class demonstrations and photo shoots. SLR I or a working knowledge of your camera in manual mode is required. Model fees included.

NEW! SHOOTING AND DEVELOPING WITH FILMCreate beautiful photographs by learning the principles of shooting with black and white film and processing in the darkroom. Learn light, exposure, and composition on photo shoots in urban street locations. Learn how to process film, make contact sheets and print images using traditional darkroom techniques. INDEPENDENT PROJECTS IN THE DARKROOMThis darkroom course is an opportunity to pursue independent projects in B & W film photography under the direction of an experienced instructor. Courses are taken individually and the certificate is applied for retroactively once all of the requirements have been met. Certificates could be completed in one year, however students are given up to three years to complete the requirements and submit an application. Relevant courses are offered in the fall, winter and spring/summer terms. Each term may offer different core and optional courses.

THE FINE PRINTWithdrawals | To withdraw from a course in person, complete, sign and submit a withdrawal form to the Office of the University Registrar. Withdrawal forms are available from all Information Centres or the Office of the University Registrar. To withdraw by phone call 780-497-5000. Students are held responsible for courses in which they are registered, until they formally withdraw within the withdrawal dates. Non-attendance, stop payment on a cheque, notifying the instructor or ceasing to attend lectures does not constitute withdrawal from a course. A $20 processing fee is charged for all withdrawals. Refunds | For courses more than four weeks in length a 100% refund minus an administrative withdrawal fee per course is available to students who withdraw before the day of the second scheduled class. No refund is available after the deadline date.

For Workshops/Seminars/Short Courses (four weeks or less) a 100% refund minus an administrative withdrawal fee per course is available to students who withdraw five calendar days before the first scheduled class. No refund is available after the deadline date.

The Registrar (or designate) may grant refunds for extenuating medical or other circumstances.

Cancellations | MacEwan reserves the right to cancel classes that do not reach minimum enrolment requirements. If the class for which you have registered is cancelled, we will make every effort to inform you prior to the start date. Fees for cancelled classes will be refunded.

Summer Music Festival This summer marks the 10th anniversary of the Music Retreat, and the Jazz Workshop at MacEwan University.

Special guest conductors Darren Fung, and Ashley Summers will be joining with MacEwan University music faculty for the workshops this year. The Conservatory is presenting the Spectrum Recital Series to run concurrent with the Music Retreat with funding provided by the Edmonton Community Foundation. The series will feature student, emerging and distinguished performers and is presented in partnership with the Edmonton Recital Society, Alberta Registered Music Teachers' Association, and the University of Alberta Music Department. Admission is by donation and all are welcome to attend.
