MOTIFS/SYMBOLS
• Blood – shows his guilty conscience from killing Duncan, he feels like he is trapped by blood.
• Animals – Snake represents the future, dogs represent the different types of men around Macbeth (Greyhounds, mongrels, spaniels, curs) and these are listed in order of value.
• Night – every murder committed has been at night, it is a dark time. Night represents evil.
• Ghost of Banquo - symbol of Macbeth’s guilty conscience because of all of the good he has taken from the world (Banquo only appears at night).
• Hecate is the symbol of corruption.
