Since 1969, the Texas State Teacher of the Year (TOY) Program has honored ex-cellence in classroom education and provided a forum to showcase many outstanding educators whose efforts and example have inspired their students, their colleagues, and the communities they serve. Texas Teacher of the Year is the highest honor that the State of Texas can bestow upon a teacher. Facilitated by TASA, the Texas Teacher of the Year Program annual-ly recognizes and rewards teachers who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and excellence in teaching. SFISD continues its efforts to recognize excellence in the teaching profession by participating in the Texas Education Agency Teacher of the Year Program. Each of these individuals has been recognized by their campus peers as outstanding examples of excellence in teaching. The Santa Fe First Year Teacher Award recognizes an out-standing first year teacher in often their most often challenging year of teaching.

The Santa Fe Educational Support Em-ployee of the Year was created in an effort to recognize and honor an employee in a non-teaching role that works for the District and is supportive of teacher and student suc-cess both in our schools as well as our com-munity. This honor is bestowed to an em-ployee who genuinely receives personal sat-isfaction for the support they give to the educational and personal efforts of our stu-dents.

Substitute teachers are a vital piece to the education of students in our district. Substi-tutes are nominated and voted on by campus staff. Selection criteria is based on dependa-bility, classroom management, rapport with students and staff and availability. For the third year, the District will also recognize all employees who have had Perfect Attend-ance for the year. Employee attendance, at every campus and within every department, is vital to the overall success of our students.

Congratulations to our award recipients: Amanda Wagner, Taylor Cardenas, and Tara Mata!

  • As the school year ends and summer is upon us, we would like to take this op-portunity to share some technology housekeeping reminders to keep things running smoothly and continue improvements to our infrastructure.

Returning Staff Members - Back up any data you have stored locally and clean up any unnecessary files stored in the shared or home directories. You may use OneDrive to place files you will need access to in the future. You may access your OneDrive by logging into https://portal.office.com using your district email address and password.- Keep your computer(s) in your classroom or office so the Technology staff may upgrade your equipment (lease/purchase laptops may be taken home and scheduled for update at your conven ience).

Departing Staff Members If you would like to keep any files, please save your files to a flash drive, external storage drive or personal Cloud storage account, as your district account will be deactivated upon departure.

Summer is ‘project time’ for the Technology staff and many changes are implemented during the summer months. Three of this year’s large projects include:

    * Network infrastructure upgrade – all campuses (improved network reliability) * Wireless access points upgrade – elementary campuses (improved wireless access) * Sharepoint implementation (improved file storage and access)

On a final note, please be aware of phishing scams. Phishing is the collection of information through websites and email and appears as though it comes from a reputable source. This is a common practice and the easiest method to obtain personal information. To learn more about Phishing scams and how to avoid becoming a victim, please see the following link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/safety/online-privacy/phishing-symptoms.aspx
