A A reading from Deuteronomy

22Set apart a tithe of all the yield of your seed that is brought in yearly from the field. 23In the presence of the LORD your God, in the place that he will choose as a dwelling for his name, you shall eat the tithe of your grain, your wine, and your oil, as well as the firstlings of your herd and flock, so that you may learn to fear the LORD your God always. 24But if, when the LORD your God has blessed you, the distance is so great that you are unable to transport it, because the place where the LORD your God will choose to set his name is too far away from you, 25then you may turn it into money. With the money secure in hand, go to the place that the LORD your God will choose; 26spend the money for whatever you wish — oxen, sheep, wine, strong drink, or whatever you desire. And you shall eat there in the presence of the LORD your God, you and your household rejoicing together.

THE GOSPEL 2 Corinthians 9:6-11

P The Holy Gospel according to 2 Corinthians C Glory to you, O Lord.

6The point is this: the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work. 9As it is written, "He scatters abroad, he gives to the poor; his righteousness endures forever." 10He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. 11You will be enriched in every way for your great generosity, which will produce thanksgiving to God through us.

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING

P …You bid us return to you and be renewed, that your justice may shine like the sun and the poor of the earth be lifted up. And so with the Church on earth and the hosts of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER

P In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.

Again after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.

Remembering, therefore, his welcome to outcasts and his eating with sinners, his own hunger and thirst, his death and resurrection, we proclaim the mystery of our faith until he comes again to share the feast that has no end.

12

P Holy God, holy and merciful, receive our prayers and praise as Jesus received the cries of the poor, and renew us by your Spirit, until your mercy mends all that sin has torn and we feast forever in the company of Jesus, through whom all glory and honor is yours, with the Holy Spirit, in your holy Church, now and forever.

P Lord, remember us in your Kingdom and teach us to pray:

LORD'S PRAYER

C Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen

Helping Hands for March

More than 800 million people around the world face chronic hunger. During March, Helping Hands will support ELCA World Hunger, which is our church’s ministry to end hunger and poverty. We join congregations across the nation, joining ELCA World Hunger in hope for a just world where all are fed. Our goal is to raise $5,000 through donations given at the Wednesday evening Lenten services. Your gifts to ELCA World Hunger address hunger and poverty around the world with creative and courageous action.
