– Centurion’s full confidence was in power of Jesus “Say the word and my servant will be healed” – Luke 7:7 His WORD brought world into existence – Psalm 33:6, 9 His WORD healed on numerous occasions His WORD can and will save – James 1:21; Romans 1:16

• Feels Unworthy Before the Lord– Centurion did not compare himself to others
The world/others should not be our standard – Lk. 18:11
– Centurion compared himself to Christ He realized he was not deserving He felt, in comparison, deep humility/unworthiness
– Centurion did one of hardest things in the world He got himself out of the way He recognized his utter dependence on the grace of God Luke 9:23 – “deny self” – only way to come to Christ Isaiah 6:5-7 – “I am undone” – only way to be purged Luke 18:13 – “God be merciful” – only way to be justified

• Acknowledges Jesus’ Supreme Authority– Centurion had authority – understood obedience– Even better, he understood Jesus had authority
He saw that the realm of nature was obedient to Jesus He knew Jesus had authority, even if not present
– Is there any reason you and I should not obey? Wind, sea, storm & disease obey Him! He has all authority – Matthew 28:18 All we do/say is to be directed by His authority – Col.
3:17 We must obey Him (His Word) to:
– Acceptably please the Lord – Luke 6:46– Be prepared for judgment – John 12:48– Enter the kingdom of heaven – Matthew 7:21-23
