L’INSOLITO MARMO

La libreria è il raccoglitore della memoria: solitamente di legno, di metallo, di vetro, mai di marmo. Marmeria ren-de lo spazio al tempo stesso innovativo e tradizionale, metropolitano e di design, un trait d’union tra il mobi-le componibile e l’oggetto d’arte. I singoli elementi, da comporre in infinite configurazioni, usufruiscono delle opportunità associate alla scelta del marmo: la materia, i cromatismi, la tattilità variano dalla diversità del marmo alla lucentezza della finitura. Un sistema aperto che, at-traverso la flessibilità combinatoria dei moduli, permette di ottenere un disegno e un’immagine sempre diversi.

Elementi in marmo bianco dell’Altissimo, realizzati in quattro diverse configurazioni geometriche per una pro-fondità di 30 cm, una lunghezza variabile dai 17 ai 29 cm per un’altezza di 40 cm. Il montaggio avviene per semplice sovrapposizione dei singoli elementi. L’altezza massima per ottenere una “libreria” autoportante senza ancoraggi a muro è di 200 cm mentre la larghezza è libera a seconda delle necessità. Il peso di ogni singolo elemento è variabile dai 18 ai 22 kg; il peso di ciascuna fila della libreria è quindi di circa 80 kg a metro lineare.

UNUSUAL MARBLE

A bookcase is the custodian of memory. It is usually made of wood, metal, glass, but never marble. Marmeria makes a space simultaneously innovative and traditional, urban and a design item. A cross between modular furniture and an art object. The individual elements can be assembled to form endless configurations by varying the choice of marble: the material, its colours, its tactile qualities ranging from the different kinds of marble to its glossy finish. The open-ended system enables the modules to be combined flexibly to create ever-different patterns and images.

Altissimo marble elements, made in four different geometric configurations with a depth of 30 cm, varying in length from 25 to 35 cm and 40 cm high. Assembly is simple: just superimpose the individual elements. The maximum height for a self-supporting bookcase without attachment to the wall is 200 cm, while it can be as wide as you like, depending on requirements. The weight of each single element varies from 18 to 22 kg. Each shelf in the bookcase thus weighs about 80 kg per linear meter.

NOTEIl montaggio avviene per semplice sovrapposizione dei singo-

li elementi con interposti distanziali biadesivi o con apposita

colla siliconica. Per la sicurezza della libreria, in particolare se

questa non viene adeguatamente fissata ad una parete verti-

cale con un apposito sistema di ancoraggio, si consiglia di non

superare le 5 file sovrapposte (200 cm di altezza). La libreria

non deve essere utilizzata come una scala e, se non fissata, non

deve essere alla portata di bambini senza la presenza di una

persona adulta.

Assembly simply involves positioning single blocks on top of

each other, using bi-adhesive spacers or a suitable silicone

adhesive between each component. To ensure the safe instal-

lation of the bookcase, especially if not correctly fixed to a wall

using a suitable mounting, it is recommended that no more

than 5 vertical rows are used (200 cm. high). The bookcase

should not be climbed on, and if not fixed to a wall, should not

be within reach of unsupervised children.

IPE, di Alberto Meda per Luce di Carra-ra, è un tavolino minimalista che unisce due materiali, il legno e il marmo. Ha linee essenziali che ricordano gli oggetti primari. Non c’è bisogno di alcuno stru-mento per il suo assemblaggio – il peso del piano del tavolo in marmo blocca le parti in legno. Le forme in legno, visibili sul piano, sono piacevoli dettagli.

PIGRECO, di Francesco Meda per Luce di Carrara, è un oggetto con una forma primitiva quasi elementare, che ci arriva da lontano. Può essere uno sgabello, un semplice supporto o un elemento sculto-reo. Nella versione marmo e legno i due materiali interagiscono con un’armonia naturale: il marmo conferisce solidità, mentre il legno trasmette una sensazione di calore e leggerezza.Nella versione tutta in marmo, vengono assemblati vari materiali di Luce di Carra-ra, offrendo un effetto visivo magico.

IPE by Alberto Meda for Luce di Carrara, is a minimalistic coffee table, it unites two materials, wood and marble. The simple design is stripped of unnecessary details, and remind the primary object. No screws is needed to assemble the table. The weight of marble top locks the wooden base. The wooden shapes, that are visible on the marble top, are a nice detail.

PIGRECO, by Francesco Meda for Luce di Carrara Pigreco, is an object with a primitive, almost elementary shape, that comes from afar. It can be a stool, a simple support or just a sculptural element. In the version, marble and wood, the two materials interact with a natural harmony.In the version total marble, are assembled different materials of Luce di Carrara, for a magic effect.

FILO, di Baldessari e Baldessari per Luce di Carrara, è un oggetto che lavo-ra sull’idea di leggerezza, suggerita dal-le ali sfinate dove lo spessore si riduce al minimo. Queste forme realizzate con il filo sagomatore da un blocco di marmo, diventano oggetti dalla “Forma aperta”, una sorta di ala che posta in verticale crea la base autoportante di tavoli, declinati in differenti forme e dimensioni.L’ala posta in appoggio, diventa inve-ce vassoio in Marmo Statuarietto dove il foro ovale nasce come maniglia e può diventare il supporto per una ciotola in legno.Nella versione del vassoio in Pietra di Stazzema, è inciso sull’ala principale il calendario perpetuo, che dà un valore aggiunto all’oggetto: 12 scanalature oriz-zontali incrociano 31 tagli verticali per raccontare l’infinita età del marmo.

FILO, by Baldessari e Baldessari for Luce di Carrara, is an object that explore the idea of lightness, given by the thinning wings, where the volume is reduced at minimum. The shapes realized with the “wire saw” from a marble block, become objects of “Open shapes”, a sort of wing that in vertical position creates the free standing base of tables, in different shapes and dimension.More over the wing in horizontal position, creates a tray in Statuarietto marble version, with an oval hole, that should be used as handle and becomes a base for a wooden bowl. A perpetual calendar has been carved on the Stazzema stone version, giving to the object an additional value: 12 horizontal grooves cut across 31 vertical ones, representing the eternal nature of marble.

“Filo” è la nuova collezione per Luce di Carrara di tavoli e complementi in marmo.L’esito di un’ambiziosa sfida, tesa a cercare la più bella plasticità in senso scultoreo delle lastre segate al filo dai grandi blocchi, così come arrivano dal-le cave dell’entroterra della Versilia.Ne è nata una “forma aperta” con una sezione particolarmente sottile e va-riabile con lo spessore minimo verso le parti estreme. Una sorta di ala che posta in verticale crea la base auto-portante di tavoli, declinati in differenti forme e dimensioni.Nella versione del Salone del Mobile 2015, i tavoli presentano un materiale differente come il Vesailles e la dina-micità di 3 gambe sottili ed eleganti.

“Filo” is a new collection of marble tables and furniture complements for Luce di Carrara.This is the result of an ambitious challenge, which sought to find the most beautiful sculptural forms in marble slabs wire-sawn from large blocks as they are brought down from the mountain quarries of Versilia.The result is an open form with an exceptionally fine and variable section with a minimum thickness towards the outer edges. A sort of wing that set vertically creates the base for self-supporting tables that come in different shapes and sizes.In the Salone del Mobile 2015 version, the tables are in a different material, Versailles marble, with the dynamism of 3 slender, elegant legs.

Scholten & Baijings have created five unique

marble tables for Luce di Carrara: each organic

for form is designed in one of the Italian marbles

from the Tuscany region. During Salone del Mobile

2014, the entire collection was on show at the

prestigious and world renowned gallery Spazio

Rossana Orlandi. The collection is inspired by the

uniqueness of marble quarries from the depths of

the Apuan Alps.

straordinari tavoli in marmo per Luce di Carrara:

ogni forma organica è progettata con uno dei

marmi originari della Toscana. Durante il Salone

del Mobile 2014 l’intera collezione è stata esposta

Il duo di designer olandesi composto da Stefan Scholten e Carole Baijings sono maestri di linee colorate e grafiche. I loro cinque tavoli realizzati per Luce di Carrara sono disegnati per enfatizzare le qualità dei materiali: colore, finitura e modello sono scelti con cura, promuo-vendo l’uso di forme sinuose.L’aggiunta di un pattern a reticolato al design, ha creato un look contempora-neo che evidenzia il contrasto tra il con-cetto grafico e la trasparenza del mar-mo. Il materiale proviene dalle cave di proprietà di Luce di Carrara che trovano origine in epoca romana e sono tra i più antichi siti industriali tuttora operativi nel mondo. Il marmo di questa zona, per portare un esempio, è stato usato da Michelangelo per il David e la sua Pietà.

Insieme i cinque tavoli fomano una col-lezione di pezzi unici, la cui finitura a guscio d’uovo dei differenti marmi ne accentua colori, texture e strutture. Il dining table è stato ricavato da un uni-co blocco di marmo bianco-beige, lo Statuario Altissimo, noto come “la per-la” per il suo manto nevoso percorso da venature. La sua produzione limita-ta ne rende esclusiva la realizzazione del modello.

I low tables sono realizzati uno in Le-ricy, un marmo dal delicato colore marrone-beige; l’altro in un marmo dal morbido colore rosa salmone: il Rosa Portogallo. Il piano dei low tables è percorso da un pattern rettangolare at-traversato da linee diagonali incise con leggerezza. Infine, i due tavoli alti, realizzati in una dimensione media, utilizzano materiali pregiati quali il Versilys e lo Statuarietto: il piano del tavolo accentua la bellissima ed esclusiva trama di questi materiali e la base, realizzata da un unico blocco di marmo con una superficie sfaccettata, creano insieme un bellissimo dialogo tra innovazione tecnica e un linguaggio na-turale.

Dutch design duos Stefan Scholten and Carole Baijings are master of colour and graphic lines. Their five tables for Luce di Carrara were designed to enhance the qualities of the material: colour, texture and patterns were carefully considered and celebrated using sinuous shapes.Adding grid pattern to the design has created a contemporary look that underlines the contrast between the graphics and crystalline marble pattern.The material comes from Luce di Carrara own marble quarries, originated in Roman times, making them the oldest still operational industrial sites in the world. Marble from this area was used, for instance, by Michelangelo for his David and his Pietà.

The five tables together form a collection of uniquess pieces with the egg-shell finish of the different marbles that accetuares their colours, textures ad structures. The dining table is made from a single block of white-beige marble, Statuario Altissimo, known as the pearl of the quarry because of its fresh, snow-like structure, traversed by venes. It’s exclusive because of its limited production.

The low tables are: one made of extraordinary brown-beige Lericy Marble; the other made of a soft salmon-pink marble called Rosa Portogallo. The top of the low tables is covered by a rectangular pattern traversed by diagonal lines, very shallowly engraved in the marble leaf. Last not least, the two high tables, realized in a medium size, uses pestigious marbles as Versilys and Statuarietto: the table top accentuates the beautiful, distinct pattern of these materials and the base, realized from a single block of marble with the faceted surface, create together a beautiful dialogue between technical innovation and organic imagery.

PLACING THE CHIP ON A FLAT SURFACE. STANDING BY ITS SIDE AND SEE HOW IT MOVES.

THE INSTALLATION WAS INSPIRED BY A CHILDHOOD MEMORY: THE CELLOPHANE, FORTUNE-TELLING MIRACLE FISH YOU GET IN CHRISTMAS CRACKERS. THE ONLY WAY TO READ THEM WAS TO UNROLL IT GENTLY ON THE PALM OF YOUR HAND.

THE CHIPS FOLLOW THE INVERSE ORDER, AND CHALLENGE THE LIMITS OF MARBLE. IN THIS SERIES THE MATERIAL ABANDONS ITS USUAL FLATNESS AND ACQUIRES AN AMAZING AND VERSATILE CURVATURE NONETHELESS PRESERVING THE INTRINSIC CHARACTERISTICS OF TEXTURE AND BEAUTY.
