GIRLS ON THE RUN is returning to Lowry Elementary! This running program is for girls in 3rd - 5th grade. -- MONDAYS --- March 6 through May 15 --- 3:00 - 5:00

Designed to allow every girl to recognize her inner strength, the Girls on the Run curriculum inspires girls through an innovative program that combines training for 3.1 mile run/walk race with a fun, health education lesson plan. Even if she doesn't like to run, your daughter can hop, skip, speed walk, or

dance toward her goals.

We are excited to have three coaches to lead our Spring 2017 program:

* Practice will be held at Lowry Elementary, Mondays (March 6 - May 15)

3:00 - 5:00 (transportation home must be provided)

* Girls/coaches will run in the Colfax 5K on Saturday, May 20th (City Park)

* GOTR has a $95 registration fee: this includes weekly training (10 weeks), t-shirt and race fee

Registration for the Spring program is now open. Please register

directly: http://girlsontherunrockies.org/program/registration/

(Note that our team is limited to the first 16 girls to register.)

Please contact Deanna Holliger at [email protected] with any questions.

Thanks for your interest!

Mr. O is going to Africa! Mr. O is visiting Africa in July and would like to contribute to the children that he sees there. Do you want

to help? Clean out your closets, drawers, desks… He’ll take any and all

gently used clothing, books, toys; anything children love and need! He’ll

take contributions up until April 14th so that he can ship the crates to be

there when he arrives in July. There is a collection box in the office.

Dining for Dollars Tuesday, February 28th: Garlic Knot Pizza and Pasta - Mayfair Location ALL Day long! Dine-in, take out, or delivery (within delivery area). Garlic Knot will give 20%

back to the school.

Pizza, pasta, calzones, subs, salads and gluten free options available! Don't forget to order for the office, tell your neighbors and friends and have them mention Lowry!

Money donated back to the school goes directly to the Lowry Aviator Fund.

Book Exchange News~ Thank you to everyone who donated books for the book exchange. It was a huge

success. Every student brought home at least one "just right book" and many of the younger students brought home multiple books. Daily reading positively impacts academic and life success, so thanks for helping our Lowry students!

The Penny Harvest ~ The first round of results in our Penny Harvest's 'The Great Aviator Race' is in. Leading the way in first place is the Chinooks, the Silva and Winters-Meyer classrooms. In second place, the Blackhawks -- Ramsey and Epp classrooms. And in third place, the F-15 Strike Eagles -- Gibson and Roche classrooms. The winning team gets bragging rights and a cupcake party. Dig deep for those loose pennies. We'll take one last count next week when the Penny Harvest ends February 24th. Money raised will go to Mr. Val to repair or replace items in the computer lab.

Missoula Theater Company The audition for the Missoula Children's Theatre

production of The Tortoise vs the Hare will be held on Monday, February 27th at 3:00 p.m. in the school auditorium. There are roles for those students in Kindergarten

through 5th grade. Approximately 50-60 students will be cast to appear in the show with the MCT Tour Actor/Director. There is no guarantee that everyone who auditions

will be cast in the play. Students wishing to audition must arrive by the scheduled

starting time and stay for the entire two-hour session. The first rehearsal begins approximately 15-30 minutes after the audition.

Rehearsals will be conducted every day from 3:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium and room 141 in the school. Although not all cast members will be needed at every session,

those auditioning must have a clear schedule for the entire week and if selected, be able

to attend all rehearsals required for their role. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be distributed at the conclusion of the audition. Cast members scheduled for the full 4½

hours of rehearsal will be asked to bring a sack dinner and/or snack.

The performances will be held on Saturday, March 4th at 3:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and

will be presented at the Lowry Elementary School Auditorium. The students in the cast

may be called for dress rehearsal before the performance that day. All those cast must be available for all scheduled performances.

Contact Kim Eikenberry (303) 726-2788 with any questions.

LOWRY SCHOOL SPIRIT Day ~February 24th, we will take a count of how many students have Lowry gear and two winning classes will win a popsicle party!

GT Corner: Lowry Critter Club @ CEFF Eco Expo, Saturday 2/25, 10-6

TWSP: Our 4th/5th grade Critter Club Change makers have teamed up this year to create handcrafts to fundraise for The Whale Sanctuary Project (www.whalesanctuaryproject.org) at the Colorado

Environmental Film Festival's Eco Expo (www.ceff.net) on Saturday 2/25 from 10-6. TWSP is

currently establishing the world's first model seaside marine sanctuary for current captive and/or injured cetaceans (whales and dolphins) The hope is that captive cetaceans in marine parks globally will be retired from performing tricks in unnatural concrete tanks and transferred into the seaside sanctuary, where they can live out the rest of their days autonomously, in a natural and expansive habitat.

CEFF - As part of our Media and Environmental Literacy unit, Lowry GT Junior Judges formally screened, judged and analyzed films by youth and for youth for the CEFF Judging Committee. The CEFF is a local film fest dedicated to celebrating the power of film to inspire, educate and motivate audiences. CEFF presents thought-provoking films and dialogue that raise awareness and galvanizes viewers into action - through the Eco Expo (see above). www.ceff.net

If you can't make the Fest and still want to contribute or find out more, contact: [email protected]

Saturday Night Fever - Spring Auction, April 22, 2017

Break out your bell bottoms and start brushing up on your disco moves - the '70s are coming

to Lowry! Mark your calendar for our largest fundraiser of the year - Saturday Night Fever on

April 22. We will have a ton of fun, food, libations, and an awesome band - Boogie

Machine! Tickets can be purchased here: https://lowrypto.ejoinme.org/2017 Prices are $45 per

person now and will go up to $50 per person after March 15.

Our goal is to have every family get involved: donate something to be used as part of the silent auction, contribute time/money/ideas to your child's class auction project, and show up to the event ready to raise money for our amazing school! Right now we are in need of "get-aways and adventures" to auction off. If you have a mountain house, know someone with a condo in Palm Springs/Seattle/Florida/Etc., have airline miles you can donate, or have a connection at a river rafting company/hot air balloon business/horseback riding company/etc. please ask them to support our school with a tax-deductible donation and/or reach out to [email protected] if you want some help with the asking. Don't just assume someone else will get the donations - we need YOUR help! Lowry Yearbook: --- Parents, we need your photos for our yearbook. Please contact Mr. Val
