LOTE Cheers!LOTE Cheers! Foreign Language Club for 5th grade students

The after school club exposes students to the study of Chinese, French, Italian and / or Spanish before they make their selection for formal student of a language in 6 th grade.

Independent Study Program A high school after school program that offers students the opportunity to study less

commonly taught languages: American Sign Language, Chinese, German, Greek, Hebrew, Japanese, Latin, and Russian

Chinese is not a post-Regents elective as in many districts. It is on par with French, Italian and Spanish beginning in the 6th grade.

Assessments 99.5% of our students pass the NYS Proficiency and Regents Exams in Modern

Languages. Special Education

Half Hollow Hills Provides the study of languages to those students with IEPs. National Awards

Students participate and win numerous local and national contests Recent: Four students from HHH won the Great French Explores Contest and the

European Union Contest. The contest was sponsored by the French Embassy in NY and the American Association of Teachers of French

The ESL teachers work very hard and offer differentiated instruction to meet the needs of the many levels of proficiency.

Wiki Space The ESL teachers embrace technology and communicate via a Wiki Space since they are in 11

different buildings. ESL Parent Orientation

Constant contact with parents so that they feel that they are part of the HHH Family. Often times, ESL parents feel isolated, but not in HHH!

ESL Excursions NCLB Title III funds are provided to assist ESL families acclimate to the community and to

We are proud that our children are afforded the opportunity to study a foreign language. Students with IEPs can study Chinese, French, Italian, or Spanish or select from two programs that were specifically designed to meet the needs of students with a learning disability; they can select American Sign Language and Spanish Foundations.

We constantly reflect, examine data and make adjustments to our programs when necessary. We feel that we have a solid program in place, but our work is never done as we strive for to meet the needs of our children. We embrace change!

Federal and State Mandates for ELLs HHH complies with all mandates set forth by local,

state and federal agencies. We provide whatever resources we can afford to assist our students in the acquisition of English.
