Term 4 Week 10 Christmas Edition Wednesday, 18 December
2019
2019 has been a busy but rewarding year. It has
almost been 12 months since I stepped through the
gates as Principal and I can say that I am the proudest
principal there is! We should all be encouraged by the
outstanding successes our school community has
achieved this year. I would like to share some
highlights with you.
In Term 1, we welcomed our new Kindergarten
students and what a great start they made. We
enjoyed a great day at our school’s Swimming
Carnival, Cross Country, Easter Hat parade and a visit
from the Easter Bunny who was a fabulous dancer.
We welcomed parents to our ‘Meet the Teacher
Night’ and new families at our coffee and chat
session.
Term 2, saw the continuation of our amazing
assembly items and Super Kid morning teas. Students
also participated in the 3-6 Athletics Carnival where
students showed great skills and participation. Walk
Safely to School Day was also an important event this
term.
In Term 3, we all participated in Education Week
events including our CoS concert, whole school
assembly, open classrooms and our SRC fundraiser,
pyjama day. Then came book week celebrations and
the book fair. Fabulous costumes and decorations
sent a creative and enchanting vibe throughout the
school. Kindergarten went to visit the farm and Stage
One visited the Sydney Aquarium. Stage Two
experienced what life was like many years ago during
their excursion to Australiana Village. Stage Three
participated in a successful 3-day trip to Canberra and
Year 4 had a ball on their adventurous camp. K-2 had a
fantastic day at their Athletics Carnival and
Week 1 Term 1 2020
Week 2 Term 1 2020

wonderful events for our students, families and wider

amazing Fair. A massive thank you to our P&C

Thank you everyone for your outstanding

Staff Goodbyes It is with great sadness that we say farewell to a number of staff, wishing them well for their future endeavours - Mrs Julie Catana, Miss Weeks, Mrs Sesar (Miss Kabriel) and Miss Guilmeer. All of these beautiful people have been a special part of Wattle Grove and impacted in such a positive way! I wish them all these best and hope they stay in touch!
It’s a Boy!
Congratulations to Mrs Raleski on the birth of her
bundle of joy – Leon Raleski! Mum and baby are doing
well.
End of Year Assembly We finally got there! Thank you to everyone for their
flexibility with the change in dates for the end of year
assemblies, supporting us in keeping everyone safe.
Over the last two weeks we celebrated the
achievements of all students at our End of Year
Assemblies. I would like to congratulate the award
recipients on their achievements across a range of
areas. Although not every student is able to receive
an award, every student at Wattle Grove is a winner!
They have all worked extremely hard throughout the
year to achieve their personal best and I am very
proud of everyone! I would like to thank Miss Premier
and Mrs Steen for their organisation of the
Kindergarten assembly and Mrs Foreshew for her
organisation the Stage One and Stage Two and Three
assemblies. Many hours of work go into these events
to ensure they are a great celebration for all. Thank
you also to the teachers and administrative staff for
their work hard work and support in ensuring the
assemblies ran smoothly. It was great to see so many
students and families attending, it was greatly
appreciated and wonderful to see.
Student Leadership for 2020 I would like to congratulate the incoming Student
Leadership Team for 2020. I am looking forward to
working with you all.

Volunteer Thank You Morning Tea Last week we celebrated our school volunteers at our annual Volunteer Morning Tea. It was a lovely morning, which recognised the hard work of our many volunteers who work across the school in many ways. Our gorgeous staff brought in many lovely savoury and sweet treats for everyone to enjoy. I would like to share my short speech with you all. I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to each one of
you for your valuable contribution to Wattle Grove
Public School! You have all contributed to making
Wattle Grove the special place it is.
Each one of you have given up their time to support
students in different ways and I genuinely thank you for
this. It fills my heart when you walk through the gates,
happy and excited to be working with our children and
teachers. The students absolutely love working with
you all, it is just such a joy to see! The staff also
appreciate your time and support in ensuring our
students are provided with the best possible learning
experiences.
I would also like to recognise our volunteers who were
unable to make today and those families who may not
be able to come to help on site but contribute in many
other ways.
I would like to end with a popular African Proverb that I
believe embraces today’s celebration... It takes a village
to raise a child, meaning that an entire community of
people must interact with children for those children to
experience and grow in a safe and healthy environment.
This is what we do at Wattle Grove Public School daily.
Thank you to Mrs Murphy and staff for organising
today’s events!
Year Six Farewell What a lovely night was had at the Year Six farewell last Thursday night. All the students looked amazing for their night of eating, dancing and celebrating. The students displayed outstanding behaviour on the night and had so much fun with their friends celebrating their seven years of primary school. Thank you to all parents and carers for supporting this event and sharing the presentation part of the night with your loved one. Thank you also to Mrs Richter for her leadership and organisation of this event and Mrs

week. Congratulations to all students on their
achievements this Semester and a big thank you to
the teachers for the time and effort they put in to
ensure these reports are an accurate record of each
child’s growth. If you have any questions, please
contact your child’s teacher

Last Wednesday a group of the stage 3 students caught the public bus to Coles, purchased food to share and enjoyed a picnic in the local park before returning on a public bus back to school. This mini excursion was a follow up to a life skills program the students have been participating in throughout the year. As a part of this program the students have learned about making healthy food choices, consolidated their understanding of measurement concepts as they measured out ingredients for cooking, strengthened their social skills by working together, and participated in a variety of language opportunities, building their vocabulary and communication skills. This wonderful experience would not be possible without the amazing dedication of our SLSO team.
KP- Kindergarten we had a blast! We participated in
Healthy Harold, Sports in Schools, Easter assembly
item, cooking, Army Mufti day, Crazy hair day,
Grandparents day, Easter hat Parade, Book Week
parade, we went to the farm and the movies… to name
just a few things! Phew!! No wonder we are all so tired
and need a break for Christmas. Thanks to all my parents
for entrusting your child to me this year in their very
first year of schooling. I love teaching Kindergarten and
seeing how far they come. Thanks also for your home
support this year and to my parent helpers who gave up
time when they could to help in our room. K Purple has
been lucky enough to have Miss Moore assisting our
students in many ways and to have Miss Elaine teaching
us too this year. I am very thankful for the extra support
and volunteer help she has also provided to the children
and to myself throughout the year. She goes above and
beyond each time she’s in my room. I’d like to extend a
big thank you to Miss Elaine too for putting together the
children’s scrapbooks for me. This takes hours and I am
very, very grateful for the help. I hope you enjoy looking
through them. It has been a great year together and I
have really enjoyed getting to really know each child in
my class. I have enjoyed the laughs we’ve had. I would
like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry
Christmas and a restful and relaxing holiday season. I
wish everyone in K Purple all the best in Year One. Stay
as lovely as you all are KP and come back from time to
time and say hi. I asked the children to comment on their

What a busy year we had this year! I asked 1
Sapphire to choose one thing and share it with
you all.
Chickens…This year we had chickens in our

cool. We named them. One was called Speedy
and one was called Fluffy. We took them out of
the cage. Our class took turns holding them. We
liked watching them grow…Annabelle

performed a dance. The choir sang two songs. I
am in the choir and I love to sing. Some people

1 Sapphire Item…Our class did an item about
Bilbies. We went into the hall and we walked up
the stairs to do our item. We said bilby facts,
we put on our Bilby ears and we sang, ‘Long Live
the Bilbies’…Ellie
Reading Eggs…In Reading Eggs you can learn a
lot of things every day. I think it is the best
thing in the world. You can learn words and
sounds, and do puzzles and fun activities…Emma
Craft…Craft is so much fun because you get to
be creative like when we did seed mosaics.
Wasn’t that fun! Erica
GoNoodle…GoNoodle is the most fun exercise
ever. Never ever can something else beat it
because it is so cool. We do it in class as a
break…Ivy
Gymnastics…Gymnastics is really fun. You can
jump on the trampoline and land as riding a
motorbike. We could roll like an egg and do a
challenge like who can lift their legs for a long
time. I like doing gymnastics…Kiara
Art…I am good at drawing. I can draw people and
toys. In class we have done directed drawings of
ladybugs, frogs, butterflies and caterpillars, a
castle and the sea with some fish and
seaweed…Leah
Sport…We do jumping and we kick a ball
together. I love sport. We have fun. We do hoola
hooping and skipping too. Sport is good exercise
for your body…Sophie
Healthy Harold…Look, Miss Stevens just said
that we were going to see Healthy Harold. We
had a chat about being safe and we watched a
story on the screen. Finally, we looked at our
body parts. It was cool…Summer
Recounts…When I first started Year One, I was
so bad at recounts, but I got much better at it.
When I first started writing recounts, I hated
it. Now I love to write recounts about great
things we’ve done at school…Vedha
Bilby Excursion…Our class went on an excursion
to Sydney Wildlife Zoo to see the Bilbies. We
also got to pat a snake and look at many
animals…Victoria
Aquarium Excursion…At the Aquarium it was
really fun. We got to see sharks and rays. The

have so many apps. There is Kahoot, Epic,
Playdough Touch and Live Mathletics. That is
why our school ipads are super, super fun…Jay

quickly. You get to move up levels and you have
to put your fingers on the home keys. I love
Typing Tournament…Jonah
Kahoot…We learnt about Kahoot. You can do
addition and subtraction and lots of quizzes
about many things. We did a quiz about bilbies,
nouns and adjectives. It is fun to play against

the Bilby competition. We got to go to Wildlife
Sydney Zoo. It was really good. We also got to
see bilbies! Wow!...Kye
Chrome Books…We use chrome books in our
classroom and they are kind of like PC’s. I like
doing Mathletics on them and I like helping the
students to use them…Max
Maths…When I started Kindy the maths was
only like 5+5=10 and 10-7=3. They’re easy. Now
we can do 10000+10000=20000 and 1000-
900=100. I love doing hard maths in class…Oscar
Epic…Epic is an app where you can read and
listen to books about animals and dinosaurs.
There are also books about wild animals and
prehistoric animals. You can watch videos that
give us knowledge and makes us smarter. What I
like about it is the animals because I find out
about new animals…Tanner

treats and you get presents. That is why I love
Christmas…Zack

What a fantastic year it has been and how fast it has
gone! I would like to thank all 2 Teal students for trying
their hardest this year. Every single student in our class
has displayed strength in their favourite subjects,
perseverance to further improve in areas of need and
growing maturity – all of which makes me feel very
proud of you. I want to thank you for all the fun memories you have
left me. Our class item “Power” by Will.I.Am was
impressive and our Athletics Carnival bought out the
athleticism and will to succeed in all of you. The Book
Fair was a blast and 2 Teal enjoyed dressing up as their
favourite characters in the school’s parade. Class
activities showed me just how clever you were and the
challenge of keeping up with your thirst for knowledge
and skills was thoroughly enjoyable. In addition, your enthusiastic participation in Sport in
Schools and dance programs demonstrated just how
committed you all were towards this area. We also
benefited from our day spent with the grandparents of 2
Teal students. In addition, we thoroughly enjoyed our
time minding the eggs and later the chicks, our STEM
days, visit to the Science labs at Holsworthy High, the
in-school author visit and drone-incursion. Come to think of it, our year has been action packed!!! I
am grateful that you have allowed me to help you this
year and I thank your parents, as well, for their support. Thanking dearly all students, teaching staff, parents and
our teacher’s aides for contributing to furthering the
education of 2 Teal in 2019. I wish everybody best of
luck in the future including a joyous, safe festive season
and a Happy New Year.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Mark King

It is with heavy hearts that we prepare to farewell the
students of 5Amethyst. It seems so short a time ago
that we were coming together as our school family and
preparing to work, laugh, learn and play together with
the whole year before us. And work, laugh, learn, play
and READ, we did! Each of the teachers you are
bestowed upon throughout your school journey has just
one year to enjoy their place in your life and we
consider 2019 to have been a great privilege. We
enjoyed reading with you, challenging you in Maths,
participating in STEM challenges, exploring new and
innovative technological programs and devices,
mopping up your tears or telling you to be quiet on
camp, travelling to sport with some of you, celebrating
your courage when public speaking, observing your
creativity, watching your friendships flourish, falter and
grow stronger, see you grow in confidence, watching
you persist and each bring your own kind of joy to our
classroom. Thank you. We have loved being your
teachers. We send you on your way, ready for all that

Dear Parents and Families, Wow, what a year! To better state that- what a GREAT year! We have covered a lot of topics and participated in many fun and exciting activities. Each of your children has brought such joy and happiness to our classroom. I was so fortunate to have such a wonderful group of children this past year. My friends and family often laugh at me when I refer to your children as “my kids”. They are like my own children. They all have touched my life and this school year in very positive and rewarding ways. It has been my pleasure getting to know not only your child, but you as well. Having parental support and open lines of communication is an essential part of any successful school year. Thank you for all you have done to make our year so fulfilling and memorable. Whilst it has been a successful year, there are some things that despite my best efforts, 5/6Tuscany have failed to learn such as, • How to walk in 2 straight lines • That the Storm are the best NRL team. • That I can hear you, even if you whisper. • That I really do have eyes in the back of my head. • That superheros wear purple. • That pink iced doughnuts can cure most
problems.
Despite these gaps in their learning, I believe we have had a great year full of personal growth. Thanks for the fun memories. I’d like to wish my Year Six students the best of luck for high school and let my Year Fives know that I will want to hear all about their holidays when we return. Have a safe and happy holiday break and I will see you in the new year. Donna Robinson

Together, 6 Pink and I have grown and developed in more ways than one. Many of us have become more confident, more mature, more social, more intelligent, more focused and just more enjoyable to be around. We have had many laughs this year, got to enjoy each other’s company at camp and explored a variety of different ways to display our work, using ICT. Some of the class highlights this year would have to be our long awaited Assembly item, The Wizard of Oz, our stage camp to Canberra, Tech Buddies, our home design projects using Minecraft Education, Footy Fun Day preparations, creating our self-made advertisements, working on the food stall at the athletics carnival and Footy Fun Day and crafting our traditional mask designs and pinch pot monsters. I would like to wish all Year 6 students the very best of luck in high school and in their future endeavours. Stay kind, stay healthy and stay proud of who you are. On behalf of 6 Pink, I would like to thank Mrs Thomas and Mrs Dodson for all of their hard work this year. Thank you to all parents who were able to support our fundraising efforts at our Footy Fun Day and at the Athletics Carnival.
Finally, we wish all staff, students and parents a wonderful Christmas and we hope you all have a well-earned rest. Kind Regards, Trina Richter and 6 Pink
Dear Parents/Carers I would just like to take one last opportunity in 2019 to say a huge thank you to all of the parents, grandparents and carers who assisted the P&C this year. Our success in 2019, comes down to the commitment and dedication of this P&C executive and extended team, along with the wonderful support of Miss Cameron, Mrs Foreshew and the teachers. We are all part of this amazing group for the benefit of our students and this wonderful school we are all proud to be a part of. I would like to say thank you to the parents who took on the role of PR for a class this year. It was great to see information being circulated to families via emails, Facebook pages and text messages. It was great to see our messages being sent out and parents responding and asking questions and participating within these groups. New PR notes will be sent home with students in February for our 2020 classes. It has been another wonderful year for our Fundraising Team. Discos, Easter Raffle, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day stalls, Cookie Dough and let’s not forget another amazing Fair. Thank you to Maria Lee and Neroli Kallis for continuing to host these events for our students and families. We truly appreciate the effort spent organizing all of these activities so that we can provide better materials and an enriching environment for our students.
P & C Thank you Message 2018

A special Thank You to our Uniform Shop who has looked after us all again in 2019. Katie and Tamara are always there to assist families each week. You have again played a huge role in the successful year we have just had and I am extremely grateful for your ongoing support and your tireless efforts. I would also like to say Thank You to Kristen Elmore who delivered us another fantastic school Fair. Certainly, a lot of hours and hard work goes into such a wonderful day. I find it extremely rewarding to work with Kristen and an enthusiastic group of people working to deliver our biggest fundraiser of the year. We are really excited about our upcoming Family Fun Night and can’t wait to share more information early in 2020. To all of the volunteers who assisted in so many ways during the year, including the P&C Executive; without the volunteers, our initiatives would never be as successful as what they are. Thank you to everyone who assisted in making our school such a great community in 2019. I am looking forward to a wonderful 2020.
