Term 3 – Week 4

Dear Parents/Carers, Unfortunately teachers have been seeing quite a lot of really unhealthy food coming to school in lunch boxes. Whilst we are certainly not in a position to dictate what you should pack in a lunch box we can tell you that packing unhealthy foods such as foods high in sugar have a really negative impact on your child’s learning and behaviour. If you want to set your child up for a successful day of learning I kindly ask that you do not send your children to school with slurpies (from 7 eleven) or lollies in the morning.

Nutrition is one of the single most important factors when it comes to a child’s development. Proper nutrition is essential for children to succeed in school. By feeding your children a proper diet, you are helping them to be able to function properly in school in addition to fostering their growing mind and bodies (https://childdevelopmentinfo.com).

One way to ensure that your child eats healthy at school is to make a lunch for your child each day. Include healthy snacks such as fresh fruits and/or vegetables. Each of these snacks is high in vitamins and low in fat. They also provide your child with energy to keep their attention on school matters rather than drifting off to sleep.

The teachers will certainly appreciate your support in helping us to ensure the children are getting the most learning out of their day.

Warm regards,

Kindergarten 2019

We are starting to collect enrolment applications for students wishing to start Kindergarten in 2019. If you have a child starting school next year please contact the office now to complete the enrolment form. If you know a friend or family member that has a child ready for school next year – please ask them to contact the school office to arrange for an enrolment pack.

Some facts that might help:

● All children must be in compulsory schooling by their 6th birthday.

● Children can start Kindergarten at the beginning of the school year if they turn 5 on or before 31 July that year.

● Students should start school at the beginning of the school year.

● Contact your local school to discuss enrolment procedures.

When you come to enrol your child please remember to bring with you:

· His/her birth certificate or identification documents · Proof of child’s address (current council rates notice, residential lease, electricity bill) · Immunisation history statement from the Australian Immunisation Register · Any family law or other relevant court orders, if applicable.

Skoolbag Do you want to keep updated with what is happening

at our school? Do not forget that our school has an app called Skoolbag, which is an iPhone and Android App to help us communicate more effectively with our community. Please download this free app so that you can keep updated with what is happening around the school. The lovely ladies in the office are more than happy to help with this if you need.

Tell Them From Me Survey I am delighted that this term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices. You may remember that our students also participated in a Tell Them From Me student survey in Term 1 this year. Asking students to complete the survey twice in one year allows us to identify trends in student responses as well as track engagement and motivation across the school year. The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help improve how they do things at school. I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary. A consent form will be sent home with students this week. If you do not want your child or children to participate, please return the form to school by Friday 24th August 2018 .

Copies of the form and FAQs are available from: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents. More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au Zone Athletics Carnival Congratulations to all students who participated last week at the Zone Athletics Carnival. The following students have made it through to the Sydney West regional Athletics Carnival to be held on Wednesday 19th September. Shady – 200m (new record holder) & 800m Merveh – Long Jump Layla – 100m Bilal K – 100m Ahmad E – 100m What a phenomenal result! I wish the five students the best of luck at the carnival.

office know as soon as possible. By doing so, you will ensure that we can get in touch with you, or a nominated contact person, should your child become ill, or an emergency arises. PBL

This term the students at Granville South are focusing on wearing hats and keeping our playground clean. Students can play in all areas of the playground with a hat. If students do not have a hat they must play under the COLA.

Keeping the playground clean helps keep our school clean. If every person puts their own rubbish in the bin, we would have a rubbish free playground!

• Students can play in a safe manner by wearing a hat in the sun, especially as the weather starts to warm up.

• Students can be respectful by keeping their playground clean.

• Students can be a learner by reminding others to do the right thing.

We expect at Granville South that students wear their hats and put their rubbish in the bin.
