DID YOU KNOW?

There are so many wonderful new things that have occurred in our school over the past 3 months. I have privately thanked the wonderful Glendore Staff and our P&C, but I would like to publicly acknowledge the initiatives, programs and achievements that will benefit our school community this year:

air-conditioning in every classroom

dramatic turn-around in external testing

Reconfigured playground, including ‘Hanging Gardens and Pallet Gardens’

Futures-focussed IT Lab in Library and a second lab to come in the Special Program Room (once our demountables are ready!)

Additional teaching, executive, learning support and administrative staff at GPS

Energy-management strategies to accommodate future growth (another 3 classes over 2018-19) and a Staff House!

Re-visioning of the school’s bell times in line with the School Vision and Plan to better accommodate longer morning and middle periods for student learning, teacher professional release and weather

Significant increases in professional learning for staff with the rollout of Choice Theory to all staff (and ultimately students); and Explicit Instruction to further develop the success of all students

Liaison with AECG and LEACG to create a 5dpw role specifically to develop and support our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students (from Term 2 on)

Increased opportunities for student development and student voice, including more art, dance, drama, choral, aerobics, sporting, cultural, coding, STEM, musical theatre, children’s university, visiting and external performances, sporting/personal development programs, and much more!

Increased partnerships with community organisations, our 18 partner schools in the Callaghan Network and our 32 Early Childhood Centres/Pre-Schools to better support our students’ lifelong learning.

Dear Parents and Caregivers, Welcome back to what we believe will be an even better year. Our wonderful school continues to grow in success, whether that is in the academic, artistic, sporting, cultural or wellbeing fields.

SWIMMING CARNIVAL 20 18

On Tuesday 5th December 2017, Glendore Public School’s 2018 Swimming Carnival was held at The Forum at Newcastle University. Well done to all of our students who participated in the carnival events and cheered on their sport house teams. We look forward to announcing our Zone PSSA Crossroads swim team soon. The zone carnival will occur on Thursday 22nd February at Speers Point pool.

REVISED PARKING IN G ARAWON PLACE Newcastle City Council have changed the parking conditions in Garawon Place. The small street that runs next to the side the school. No stopping signs have been installed and the disability parking has been moved to after the staff drive way to assist within the safety of the students in the drop off and pick up zone. Parents are requested not to drive into this street unless using the drop off/ pick up zone.

USING THE “DROP -OFF/PICK-UP ZONE Thank you to all our families and their children for assisting us with our afternoon pick up zone. Our school has had to agree to strict procedures and provides a volunteer each afternoon for the ‘Pick-up Zone’ to safely allow our Glendore students to travel home.

Please follow the 'helpful hints' below to keep our students safe:

1. Students using the ‘Pick-up Zone’ wait on the path in front of the flagpole that joins the office to the hall for the duty teacher to take them to the zone.

2. All students who are waiting at the flagpole area will be taken down to the ‘Pick-up Zone’ closest to the staff driveway also.

3. Parents arrive at the pick off zone after 2.45pm. You are only allowed to wait in this zone for 2 minutes. 4. Parents to supply a sign on their dash with surname to help staff

and students, e.g SMITH 4. Only the first four cars closest to the staff driveway will have their

students delivered to their car. 5. The first four cars need to drive away together (like a train). This eliminates the need for cars to swerve in and out of the traffic causing a safety risk to staff and students. 6. The next four cars will then be directed to move to the pick up zone. 7. When arriving please join the back of the car line. 8. Teachers will be on duty at the drop off zone until 3pm. 9. At 3pm any students who have not been collected will be taken to the office and will need to be signed out by a parent.

Many thanks for your support with this initiative.
