HOMEGROUP HAPPENINGS!

During Whole School Numeracy, we are focusing on Probability; building our understanding of

chance language, chance fractions/representations and if something has a fair

chance and if not, how to change it. Students have been engaging in this learning through

different chance experiments and games.

This term for Whole School Maths we are learning about Chance. Ruby Red Homegroup joined in with Green Gem Homegroup to learn a new warm up game. Each maths session we do a 10-15 minute hands on warm up game. The games get the students brains ‘warmed up’ and thinking. It was lovely to learn a new warm up game from their peers. Thank you Green Gem students for your patience and assistance with teaching the Ruby Reds.

“Woohoo!” I screamed. “SHOOSH.” Mum grumbled. “The neighbours can here you!” Mum grumbled once again… “OMG! Make that three times?” “But…MUM!” “I’m just too excited for the the” “SPIT IT OUT” “…The AMAZING YEAR 2 SLEEP OVER!” “Oh well… GET IN THE

CAR!” “But I have not even packed!” I said guilty. “GO PACK THEN”. A few minutes later. After I packed I hopped in the car like Mum told me to and we were off. When I got there Miss M told me to set up my grey and pink sleeping bag, so I did. I had a few issues of where I was going to sleep but I made a final decision. To be continued… By Claire

Dear Santa, Merry Christmas. I would like two ponies, a dog and two guinea pigs and a trampoline. I deserve these things because I have been a good girl and I do all my jobs because I can take care of the animals. From Emma. Dear Amazing Santa and Fantastic Elves, Merry Christmas. l would like a puppy and I have moved to 894 Sunny Creek Rd Trafalgar South. I would like a puppy because my dog is dying. Love from Ashlee. PS. I love you. I will put some cookies, milk and carrots out.

I came across a little book of great worth entitled ’25 things to do..” (in grief and loss) whether it’s a neighbour, grandparent, divorce or when a pet dies. It was written by Laurie A Kanyer, MA and is full of activities to help your child when ‘life changing’ issues are at stake. The ‘things to do..’ come under five headings: person to person connection, ceremonies, large muscle, small muscle and soothing repetitive activities. I thought for the next few weeks we might look at groups of these so that you can add them to your bank of knowledge. It’s good to remember that we don’t ‘get over’ loss – it is a process and we continually make adjustments. If we are fortunate we won’t have compound griefs (more than one following closely upon another) so we have time to remember from what we learned from past experience. If however we become lodged (stuck) at the first grief and barely survived, then there may be a need to get a couple of sessions of professional help (called a Mental Health Plan) through your local GP at minimal or no cost to yourself. This little booklet is a source of help for your children and I’ll look forward to sharing it with you. Enjoy your weekend and ‘miss everything but the scenery’ as you drive. Mrs P (Chaplain)

COMMUNITY NOTICE BOARD

Make lunchboxes fun! (Alternatives to ‘treats’ in the lunchbox)

Encourage kids to eat their lunch by making it fun: ֍ Cut sandwiches into shapes with cutters or simply allow different coloured bread in a sandwich

and sliced into fingers, squares or triangles

֍ Make pinwheels sandwiches by removing crusts from bread and flattening with a rolling pin. Spread with a filling or use cheese. Roll up like a Swiss roll, wrap in cling film overnight and sliced into wheels.

֍ Pack a nibble mix into a decorated snap-lock plastic bag.

֍ Make healthy muffins, biscuits and slices and wrap in leftover Christmas or birthday paper.

֍ Include non-food “surprises” such as a joke, a sticker, a flower, a small card, a pencil, a photo or a note from Mum or Dad.

If ‘treats’ are packed everyday they become a staple - often children may eat the treat first and not have time or the appetite to eat the more healthy foods.
