You have most likely heard of intact grains, but do you know what makes them different from whole grains? The answer is more straightforward than you might expect – essentially, if a grain has not been scarified or separated from its natural physical components (i.e. it still has its bran layer, endosperm, and germ), then it is considered to be “intact”. Whole grains, on the other hand, don’t

have to be literally intact to be considered “whole” – those components just need to be present in the same ratio as they would naturally appear. Therefore, all intact grains are whole, but not all whole grains are intact. According to dietitians and nutritionists alike, minimally-processed grains (such as intact grains) offer significant nutritional benefits.

From Humble Beginnings to Leading InnovationThe InHarvest story began in 1978, in the pastoral northern Minnesota town of Bemidji. Surrounded by pristine lakes and pine forests, a local couple started the little company that would grow to become InHarvest under the name “Consolidated Wild Rice”. That first major product, wild rice – often called “The Caviar of Grains” – grows abundantly in the shallow lakes and rivers of northern Minnesota.
