What a fun year! We started out with 18 kids at registration and before you knew it the team ballooned to 31 young 6 year olds. Thesegroups of boys play a major role in the Sharks organization because they represent the future. It was great as a coach to come backto coach young boys after coaching older boys. They were like a bunch of sponges eager to learn. To my surprise the helmet andshoulder pads did not present an issue. We were able to get a full season of games and it was like a great reward for the kids. The playersnot only learned the basic fundamentals of football but what it is like to play a real game of football. We are proud of each and everyone of the boys. We hope you got everything out of the year as we did. We look forward to seeing everyone next year.

I would like to thank all the young players on my seven year old team for their extremely hard work and outstanding effort. Also, I wantto acknowledge the unceasing dedication and devotion that was exemplified by the parents of this team. The hard work and relentlessdedication has allowed this team to remain the only seven year old team in Suffolk County with an unbeaten record. I attribute thisaccomplishment to every one of the players; they have all grown and evolved as football players over the season. I am very proud ofall of them and I am looking forward to a great season in 2010!

“I would like to thank my assistant coaches, who have assisted and given me 101% effort and commitment as my first year as HeadCoach. We began in August with a group of boys who with the exception of four players had never played organized football and wetaught them the fundamentals of the game and were competitive! Without the assistance of each of you we would not have had suchaccomplishments. I want to thank all of our players, they worked hard, learned the basics of football and the meaning of teamwork anddiscipline. What an enriching experience to see them grow and implement what they were taught. Their love for the game and theireagerness to succeed made this a great season. I would be remiss if I did not thank all the parents, for their support, patience andcommitment! Thank you all, and see you next season!!!”

A league can only be as successful asthe group of volunteers and parents thatare associated with it. To say the LongIsland Sound Sharks have the greatestgroup of volunteers and parents is justnot enough. And a huge part of whatkeeps communication and team spiritgoing strong among the teams is due toa large part on our Team Parents. Theytruly are the back bone of each team. They are in constant communicationwith the parents, making sure theyreceive all schedule changes, coordinating drinks and snacks, andmost importantly making sure that thelines of communications stays openbetween the League and their team. They are also a tremendous amount ofhelp to the Coaches, they act as aliaison between coaches and parentsthat way the coaches are able toconcentrate on the kids. They are anintegral part of this organization, without each of you we would not bethe success we are today!!! Thank youfor all your hard work and dedication itis truly appreciated!

WOW! How do I begin to describe the season this team has had. I have been coaching football for many years and I am taken back by the talent and determination of thisyoung team. What a season we have had with 6 wins and only 1 loss, which was on our first game. But once they got going, they couldn’t be stopped. Throughout this season,I was continuously impressed by how these boys worked together, defining teamwork, no player more important than another. Both offense and defense never gave up, nomatter what was put in front of them, including one of our final games against a two year undefeated Huntington team, which our boys fought tooth and nail and came outvictorious with a 7-6 score. I cannot tell you what a privilege and honor it has been to coach these boys. I hoped that the players would have learned how to play football andhave fun at the same time and after this season I can say they have. I am proud of all the hard work that the players have put into this season. I look forward to many successfulseasons ahead. I hope to see you all again next year. To All the parents, we appreciated all the cooperation and support that we have received from you. We wouldn’t have ateam without you all bringing them to and from practices and games.

Hard work was the motto of our team. A team that consisted of 21 players 11 who never played before. As Head Coach I tried to instillthe love for the game, at the same time be tough, kind and most of all be fair. I believe we will have a 100% player return for next year, which is a huge victory. Win, lose or draw, the boys gave their all. Have a great winter! See you all next year.

From Joe Rinaldo, Assistant Coach 8yo Gordon Team:

Thanks to Head Coach Steve Gordon, all the other coaches, our parents and most of all our players for a Great Season. Go Sharks!

From the beginning I knew this season was going to be a successful one. Not only what we have accomplished on the score board or standings, but how wegot these kids to play as one. We have such a great bunch of kids. There is nothing we can't ask them to do that they won't be successful with. Whether it's atriple reverse or some other kind of wacky play. They have represented the Shark's organization in the super "A" category with pride and talent. They are theSuffolk County 9 year champions- and they earned it! They have shown the other organizations in PAL the we are a force to be reckoned with from here areon in. As for the coaches, you could not find a better bunch of guys to go with this team. The kids respond to every one of us, no matter what the situation. Itwas my pleasure to coach with these guys. I hope it lasts until the day these kids are too old to play Shark Football. I would like to thank Paul McHugh andDevon Daniels for helping us make this team. Their honesty in giving up kids from their team made our team who they are. I would also like to thank John Heggersand Steve Orlando for taking time out of their practice to scrimmage us to help us become who we are. Also, Charlie Agius and Steve Malindrino for makingthis organization so we can have good times with our children. Great job! Can't thank you enough. - Coach Pat

Resiliency & growth are the two words that thoroughly define the 2009 Long Island Sound Sharks Football 9 Year Old “B” team; this isinclusive of the players, coaches and parents. Everyone involved with this year’s team stayed committed to the T.E.A.M (TogetherEveryone Achieves More) concept and fought through as season that had its fair share of ups and downs. In the end this team cametogether and played football and made true the statement that “it’s not how you start that matters, but how you finish.”

As a football coach there are many types of players who can inspire you and remind you why you choose to coach. There are veteranplayers whom you've worked with for years who reach new heights, there are second year players who continue to develop and improve, and there are first year players who somehow catchup and yet make significant contributions to the team. This year our team wasfortunate to have all three. Our players learned from one another and challenged each other to be the best they could be. As always, these efforts showed up on the scoreboard and propelled us to an undefeated season. Congratulations to all of you for achieving yourpersonal best. Thank you for playing together as a team. - Coach Paul

New lights, goal posts, bleachers, music and a freshly lined fields made this opening dayspecial. The 9 year old game was called by Kevin Wood over a pro sound system to give it anNFL feeling. The field finally represents a home for the Long Island Sound Sharks footballorganization. Sharks president, Steve Malandrino said, "This is an exciting time for the Sharks, and while this field will not immediately replace the Prodell Middle School field for Shark'shome games, it does provide the opportunity for night games and to bring our communitycloser together."

Page 17: Long Island Sharks Football Year Book 09

From day one our team was dedicated to becoming better football players. Each player has worked so hard for the success theyachieved on the field. They all showed great sportsmanship and character. As a coach it was very gratifying to see the children havefun while learning to play as a team. I am very proud of the way the season unfolded. I want to thank the coaches for all of their hardwork on the field and Jen Biondi for all her help off the field. It has been my pleasure to work with all of you. Players you will have towait until next year to see my touchdown dance! Thanks for a great season and all the awesome memories. - Coach Tom

This was another great year, with a great coaching staff Brad Snyder, Tim Toporek, John Bauer, Mike DePhillips, JeffRitchey. I couldn't have done it without you. A special thanks to our parents for their support, but most of all... We are soproud of these 10 yr old boys ....their dedication, commitment & love for the game shows every Sunday.

We had a great year. The whole team had some obstacles that other teams didn't have to deal with. Those obstaclesincluded several new players, some players from the original team and some players from another team, as well assome original coaches and some coaches from another team. The whole team including coaches and players neededto develop as one team. There were some very hot days in August as well as cold windy nights in October but the wholeteam overcame those obstacles.

We started out 0-2 and turned things around to go on a 4-1 run. We as coaches actually saw the difference in the teamat practices and noticed they believed in themselves in their body language. It was rewarding to see them grow as a teamover the course of the season. The season couldn't have been as successful as it were without the help of the players, parents and coaches. I look forward to seeing everyone back next year.

Former Shark – Robbie BrayTo be a Shark football player you must have dedication, discipline and determination. This meansleaving your pool and friends to come to practice, it means giving 100% when you are at practice. TheSharks program wouldn’t be as strong as it is if it weren’t for our dedicated players and coaches.Dedication is not just an on the field quality it is actually more of an off the field quality like eating rightand staying in shape, and if your not in shape taking the time to get yourself into shape.

Being 100% dedicated isn’t the easiest task, it takes a lot of hard work and focus. You need to bedetermined to succeed. Since I was once a Shark’s player, I know the rigorous criteria and obstaclesthat you need to overcome. Many of the Shark’s athletes play many sports. Football isn’t a sport thatyou can just start playing. You and your team need to practice and be disciplined to achieve greatness. In many sports, one player can change the entire game. In basketball, somebody can score 50 pointsand win you the game. In baseball, one person can hit a home-run to win the game. In football, you need an entire team toget a victory; if one player doesn’t try or let’s up it could ruin a good play or sometimes a game. A football team is a puzzle;every piece needs to fit for your team to succeed.

What is your favorite Shark's memory?Come back win against Bellport with Sharks. It was a team effort, kids from different towns made big plays. Kid fromshoreham made an interception. Kid from miller place caught the winningTD. Kid from rocky point played great defense. Coaches from differenttowns made great calls. Everyone contributed and we were not supposedto win the game. The fans came together. It was a great team effortinevery since of the word.Very Respectfully – CDT SGT Sam Malandrino #3, Class of 2011, G-2

We are reaching the end of another very successful season. I have been fortunate to have the privilege of coaching a great team ofkids who were eager to play the game. They have grown this past season, and learned the importance of teamwork, and how anythingcan be achieved through hard work and dedication, whether it is on the football field or in everyday life. As a coach there is no greaterexperience than watching your team fight for each individual yard, with determination and perseverance, and to see them implementwhat they have been trained to do all week at practices. I want to thank my coaching staff, as well as the players and their parents forall their time and effort for making this another outstanding year!!!!

This year once again, showed to be a successful season with this team. Each year the team has grown in so many ways. Whether it is through winning agame or executing a new play. The team is stronger; more focused and has a dedicated approach. Each year we try to instill the meaning of “team” into eachof our players. Whatever we do during the season, we do together. We see it through to the end…together. This year, the word team could not have meantmore, when one of our players walked on the field that first night of practice and exceeded the weight limit needed to play. This player fought his way through(4) games on the sidelines, watching as his teammates brought home a victory, or to pat them on the back after a loss. On the 5th week of the season, everyone walked to the scale in hopes that this would be the week that he would make weight. Everyone held their breath as he stepped on the scale, hisfather standing about 20 feet away with the coaches thinking his son would be disappointed again. A few minutes later there was a round of applause so loudyou could hear it on the field. Cheers of congratulations! The dad stated that our other players must have made weight. The coach stated, not with cheeringlike that….that was your kid. And sure enough, our player who never gave up and refused to move to an older division for more play time had indeed madeweight. He lost 29 pounds to get on that field. As the kids walked away from the scale they simply stated “Now we are a team.”

Congratulations to the 11 year old Sharks team. You have had another great season and we are extremely proud of you. We will see you in December as wego for our 3rd Division Championship during indoor ball.

What is your favorite Shark's memory?Playing up so I could play with my olderbrother Sean.

How did you become interested inplaying football?Too young to remember, probably watchingthe Jets lose every Sunday in the early 90sbefore Parcells took over as coach.

What are your goals for Football inthe future?Use it to pay for the rest of my college, and ofcourse I have the hope and aspirations toeventually play in the NFL.

What is your favorite part of football?Only one game a week, you don't overlook any opponent. Not like basketball where you can play 4 games a week orbaseball where you can have a double header. There is a spot for everyone on the field, regardless if you are tall or small, big or thin. It takes all 11 players on every play to be successful. I played on a lot of teams and there is just something aboutfootball, and only previous players can fully understand what that means.

Who is your favorite pro football player and why?Adrian Peterson, I watched him in 8th grade play in the Army All American game, a game I was later nominated to play inhigh school, and ever since then he's been my favorite. I followed him as he started as a freshman at the University ofOklahoma and become an instant impact, I knew he would be one of the best to play the game before he ever even got tothe NFL.

What is your favorite team?Born and grew up as a Jet fan but becoming more and more of a Giant fan.

What can you say about your Coach? My Shark coaches taught me more fundamentals, work ethic, and levels of respect then I ever learned inside the classroom. They didn't care for the wins and losses they cared about you as a person. They all show that to me 10 years later, after myShark career has came to an end, when I bump into one of them they always ask how I have been and if they can help mewith anything, outside of just football. They cared more then just what was inside the lines but what is in between the pads. They have helped me get to the place I am at today.

What can you say about your team mates? We shared great memories together. The team mates I played with I stayed close friends with and always had a connectionwith. These guys became some of my best buds in high school.

What was your biggest challenge this year?I became somewhat of the "star" on the field as I was moved up to JV as an 8th grader. Once I reached high school, Istarted as running back and linebacker as a freshman and stayed that way until I graduated. My freshman year in college Ineeded to have my shoulder operated on and underwent a long rehab period and had to slowly watch all my hard work offthe field in the weight room go to ruin. Keeping high hopes and confidence in myself during the time that I will get better wasextremely challenging. Especially sitting out a year, a year I greatly anticipated and in the sport I found to love. Redshirtingmy first year due to my shoulder I was cleared to play and work out just two months before the season began and had to getstrong enough to a playing strength. Being used to the "star" life at the high school level, I had to take a lesser of a role toeven see the field this year and help the team out in anyway I could. Also hitting with my shoulder and trying to overcomethe fear of playing with it the way I used to.

How does football help you in other aspects of your life?Football has brought me to where I am today. Without the roots of the Sharkswhich helped me grow a passion and love for the sport, I would've neverstayed with it. The coaches pushing me and expecting me to do good kept mein line too. It kept me out of trouble and built a foundation to achieve mygoals and succeed. It enabled me to earn a name for myself amongst LongIsland football notables. I didn't have to look for a college education ascolleges were knocking on my door. If it wasn't for football, Sharks program, and the great coaches I had, I wouldn't be in college today and wouldn't havereceived a full scholarship to the University of Central Florida to play andmore importantly learn.

#24 Brendan Kelly at University of Central Florida

This has been another memorable season for our team. We were led this year by Coach Frank who perfected our singlewing offense into a scoring machine. By the midpoint of the season, we were the leading team in scoring in Suffolk PALand were asked to leave our division because we completely dominated our opposition. Coach Frank has declared thatthis team executed the plays better than any team he has ever coached. We hope to remain undefeated and becomechampions in two divisions in the same season. Great job, guys.

Another Great Year!!!! And to think that this time last year, I didn’t think we would return for 12 year old football. I am so gladthat Bob Puckey twisted my arm to come back for one more year. As expected our kids played their hearts out. Game in andgame out, we played the best we could. And it paid off. For the first time in our team’s history, we made it to the SuffolkCounty12AA Championship. While the result wasn’t what we wanted, our season was a complete success. While learning atremendous amount of football, our players were complete team mates and young men. For me this was not noticed until Iwatched our Miller Place kids play both Rocky Point and Shoreham Wading River. For the first time, I was cheering for bothteams. It was truly an honor to watch my players playing for their school teams. All of them made me proud! Thanks to all thecoaches: Bob Puckey, Bob Hughes and Tom Sullivan, we make a Great Team! Special thanks to Barbara Reed for all her hardwork as Team Mom, she did a Great Job as always! - Good Luck, Coach Marc

I want to start off by thanking all the players, parents and assistant coaches for all their hard work and dedication. I know this has notbeen the season we were expecting, but even though we did not put up many wins, we did have a winning attitude!!! And that is whatit’s all about. I have seen a group of young men fight hard, push themselves to the limit and they have given us 150%. They havelearned that on the field as well as life, things might not always go the way you want it to, but that does not mean you give up or quit. You just fight harder, and through sheer strength and determination you will succeed! I want to let you boys know that in my eyes andin my heart you are all winners!!!!
