YMCA DAY CAMP

Y Day Camp is designed to provide a positive campexperience, in a safe and accepting environment.Well-trained, qualified staff serve as positive rolemodels for campers. Y Day Camp enhances camper’sself-confidence, self-esteem and leadership skillsthrough well planned fun activities. Campers developa true understanding of diversity in an atmosphere ofacceptance and approval through the uniqueness ofothers.

Campers are motivated to be creative, expressive andlearn new skills. Y Day Camp strives to address Sum-mer Learning through theme based curriculum thatincludes key academic components. Campers willlearn appreciation of the environment and learn waysto take an active role in protecting and conserving it.There will be a focus on social development andteamwork. All YMCA Day Camps are licensed by theNYC Department of Health and Accredited by theAmerican Camping Association (ACA).

DEAR PARENTS/GUARDIANS,

Welcome to the Long Island City YMCA Summer Day Camp! The Long Island City YMCASummer Day Camp provides youth with supervised activities that teach core values,conflict resolution and leadership skills. Children have fun while making new friends,developing new skills, learning core values, building self-confidence, appreciatingteamwork and growing in self-reliance. For children, Y camp is a fun and happy placeto enjoy the summer. Y Day Camp gives children the opportunity to play games, createarts and crafts, explore science and technology, swim, participate in field trips, appre-ciate nature and science and value our many cultures. The Long Island City YMCA is li-censed by the New York City Department of Health and accredited by the AmericanCamping Association.

The program provided by the Long Island City YMCA is a Summer Day Camp that willserve children from ages 3 to 16 years old. The children are separated into groups ac-cording to their age. The groups are as follows: Kinder Camp (3-4 Year Olds), Half-DayKinder Camp (this ONLY applies for 3 Year Olds), Express Camp (5-8 Years Old), Adve-nand ture Camp (9-11 Years Old), and Movin' On Camp (12-14 Years Old).

Our goal is to provide children with a safe, healthy, learning, and positive environmentas well as provide parents with a peace of mind. We hope that you will visit one of ourCamp Open House dates to get further information as well as see a “day in Y Camp” atthe Long Island City YMCA.

YMCA DAY CAMP OBJECTIVESThe YMCA Summer Day Camp programhelps campers ages 3 - 16 years old,to grow mentally and physically byproviding challenging activities inboth small and large group settingsunder the supervision of a caring andwell trained staff.

SUMMER LEARNINGTo succeed in school and life, childrenand young adults need ongoing oppor-tunities to learn and practice essen-tial skills.This is especially true duringthe summer months when childrenlose much of what they learn duringthe school year.

YMCA of Greater New York Day Campsprovide high-quality summer learninginitiatives that give children a varietyways to improve reading and mathskills and explore music, drama, artand sports. Through fun, themed cur-riculum that incorporates key aca-demic components, children willpractice and further their academicskills, learn to plan and create proj-ects, learn teamwork and developnew skills. To inspire reading, ourprogram will provide books recom-mended by the Department of Edu-cation for summer reading.

CAMP LOCATIONThe Long Island City YMCA SummerDay Camp operates out of the Long Is-land City YMCA facility which is lo-cated at 32-23 Queens Boulevard inLong Island City, featuring a six lanepool, basketball courts & gym. Wealso use offsite facilities such as localparks and schools to conduct our pro-gram.

PARENT ORIENTATIONParent Orientation will be held on Fri-day, June 24, 2011 from 6:00 pm -8:00 pm for children registered in ourSummer Day Camp. Further informa-tion will be sent to parents andguardians.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCEThe YMCA of Greater New York awardsscholarships to campers based on aparent or a family’s annual income.The scholarship applications will beavailable January 1, 2011 and thedeadline is May 20, 2011.

SUMMER CAMP TUITIONThe Summer Camp Program weeks areseparated into 2 week periods called asession. The cost of each session (a 2weeks period) for regular Day Camp is$375.00 per child. The cost for Ex-tended Hours is $60.00 for AM Ses-sion (8:00 - 9:00 am) and $60.00 forPM Session (5:00 - 6:00 pm). Parentsmay chose one session (either AM orPM) or both (the cost is $120.00 forboth).

EXTENDED HOURS FEESAM Extended Hour 8:00 am - 9:00 amCost for AM Extended is $60.00 persession.

PM Extended Hour 5:00 pm - 6:00 pmCost for PM Extended is $60.00 persession.

* Please note: The cost for ExtendedHours applies to either AM or PM Ex-tended Hour per session. If youchose both AM and PM ExtendedHours, the cost is $120.00 per ses-sion.

Session 5 (1 week only)Extended Hour cost for either AM orPM is $30.00. If you want both, thecost is $60.00 for Session 5.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURESRegistration forms are available at ourMembership/Front Desk at our branch.Department of Health regulations alsorequire a completed medical form tobe on file for each child prior to thefirst day of camp. Registration beginsJanuary 1, 2011.

PAYMENT INFORMATIONA $50.00 non-refundable deposit perchild is required for each 2 week ses-sion you wish to register for. A $100.00non-refundable registration fee is alsorequired. Full payment deadline forSession 1 & 2 due by June 17, 2011.Sessions 3, 4, & 5 full payment due byJuly 15, 2011.

Payment is accepted ONLY in cash,credit cards, or certified money order.Checks will NOT be accepted underany circumstances. We accept allmajor credit cards (Visa, Master card,Discover & American Express).

PROMOTIONAL OFFERSEarly Bird Discounts10% discount for participants who areregistered and paid in full by May 15,2011.

Sibling Discount10% off each additional Sibling.Discounts can not be combined.

REFUND & CREDIT POLICYCamp fees are non-refundable unlessthe YMCA cancels a camp. The depositof $50.00 and the $100.00 registrationfee is non refundable and non trans-ferable. If a camper cannot attendcamp for the period of time paid, arequest for a credit is to be made tothe Camp Director stating the reasonthe child cannot attend, along withsupporting documents. Credits will beissued at the Director’s discretion.There will be no refunds or creditsgranted after August 22, 2011.

CAMP GEAREach child will receive a t-shirt and abag. Swim cap will be given during thecamper swim test on 1st week ofcamp. Camp T-shirts must be wornevery day. Additional shirts may bepurchased at $10.00 each. Swim gearshould consist of towels, swimsuits,water shoes and a plastic bag (orother receptacle for wet swim gear).

The program provided by the Long Is-land City YMCA is a Summer Day Campthat will serve children from ages 3 to16 years old. The children are sepa-rated into groups according to theirage. KINDER CAMPSummer sessions of Kinder Camp are offered by the Early Childhood Centerfor 3 and 4 year olds. Art, songs, music, block building, field trips, and recre-ational swimming make up our Kinder Camp. Kinder Camp prepares childrenfor a Pre-K or Kindergarten experience while ensuring that children enjoy asafe, fun-filled summer.

HALF-DAY KINDER CAMP(This applies ONLY to 3 year olds). We are offering a Half-Day Camp (4 hours)for 3-Year-Old children. The time will be from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm. Children willparticipate in a nursery room setting where they will play, do artwork, listento stories, play in the gym, and have instructional swimming two days per week.

EXPRESS CAMPExpress Camp is designed for the younger camper. Campers participate in artsand crafts, group games, sports, health & fitness, character development ac-tivities, and recreational reading. Children also take part in instructional swim-ming 2 days per week and in weekly excursions to nature centers, museums,and local events. As part of our Express Camp, campers also take mini-trips tolocal playgrounds.

ADVENTURE CAMPFor older boys and girls, Adventure Camp provides a balance of scheduled andoptional activities. In addition to instructional swimming, arts & crafts, music,and environmental science, there is also a wide array of sports, creative arts,and character development activities. Field trips throughout the metropolitanarea, weekly theme days, and special events offer children a well-roundedsummer experience. The program also continues the “R&R” (recreational read-ing) component – helping kids to maintain sharp reading skills throughout thesummer months.

MOVIN’ ON CAMPA special summer experience awaits teens and pre-teens enrolled in the Movin’On Camp. There are many scheduled activities, but Movin’ On Camp emphasizesdecision-making, encouraging youth to choose their activities. Swimming,sports, reading, trips, and games are all offered. Leadership development ac-tivities may include community service activities that help youth value theircommunity. Movin’ On Camp helps teens develop social skills and leadershipability while having loads of fun.
