Activity 10: Months of the YearLos Meses del Año

Depending on the age of your students, they may understand the concept of the 12 months of the year and even be able to recite them in English. Practice saying the months in English, then tell the kids how wonderful it will be when they can say the months in Spanish too!

Fortunately, most of the months are cognates in Spanish and English which mean they are similar in both languages. This makes them easy to learn! Lay the flashcards of the months from pages 62-65 on the floor in the order of the year, fromenero to diciembre. Point to the pictures on the flashcards and see if they help the kids guess the months in English. Next, play Spanish In February CD Track 10. Point to the flash-cards as each month is taught in Spanish.

Your students will love dancing La Macarena while singing the months of the year in Spanish! (This is similar to singing and dancing La Macarena to numbers 1-12 in the Spanish In November lesson.) The song is on Track 11 of the Spanish In February CD. The song lyrics are on the next page. Before you play the song, go over the Macarena body movements on page 32 so the children are familiar with how to dance La Macarena. Smile and be dramatic when you do the actions. Your excitement for the dance will over-flow to your students!

From now on recite the months in Spanish during calendar time. The more frequently the kids repeat the months, the sooner they will have memorized them!
