Logistics Of Film
DefinitionWiki Defines; Logistics management is that part of the supply chain
which plans, implements and controls the efficient, effective forward and reverse flow and storage of goods, services and related information between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet customer & legal requirements.
Logistics
Logistics is the transportation of the film, from the film company to the cinema. The logistics make agreements with the cinema, to set a release date. Logistics are responsible for supplying and circulating copies of the film to the cinema. Logistics also supply DVDS to the movie stores.
The distributor often handles 35mm film prints. The prints are often around £1000, Or if subtitle films are required, they can cost twice as much. Prints are often broken down smaller clips for ease of processing, often lasting around 18-20 minutes when run through a projector at 24 frames per second. A typical film will take up as much as 5-6 reels.
Process
1. Prints are hired,
2. Onto a delivery van
3. To the cinema,
4. Onto an assembly bench,
5. Through the projector
6. Back through the process and onto the next cinema.
Damage
During the transportation of the films, and circulation to other cinemas, the film can often be damaged, therefore distributors will invest in sufficient number of prints to last up to six months of theatrical coverage. Therefore only a few will be needed for a second run.
