Reason - As it receives scanty rainfall and sometimes continuously for several years it does not receive rainfall. c] People stored water in copper pots in earlier times. Reason – As storage in copper pots killed the microbes present in water and made it fit for drinking. d] We should use water judiciously. Reason – Water is an important natural resource overuse and misuse of it will make our planet barren and dry like a desert. Q. Answer the following questions: a] How does the earth soak water and how does it reach well and stepwell? Ans: Earth has soil with several pores in it. These pores help to replenish water inside and help to increase water table of the earth. This water reaches into well and stepwell. Rainwater also reaches into well and stepwell. b] As a responsible student list any four ways how you can conserve water. c] Who was Al- Biruni and what all he observed in India? Ans: Al- Biruni was a traveller from Uzbekistan. He came to India thousands of years ago. He observed that the people in India were more skilled in making ponds. They constructed chabutaras all around the lake with steps going up and coming down to avoid crowding. Activity-Write a slogan on save water in the notebook creatively. Q1 Answer the following questions: a. What is water table? Ans: The level below which ground is saturated with water. b. Read this water bill and answer the following question:

(i) From which office has this bill come? (ii) Do you get a water bill at home? Find out from where it is sent? (iii) Why do you think Dilli Sarkar (Government of Delhi) is written under Delhi Jal Board? (iv) In whose name is the bill? How much money do they have to pay for each month? (v) Do you have to pay for water? How much? Is the rate of water different in different colonies? Ask your elders.

Answer. (i) This bill has come from Delhi Jal Board. (ii) Yes, we get a water bill at home. The bill is sent from the water supply department of our city. (iii) Dilli Sarkar (Government of Delhi) is written under Delhi Jal Board as it is run under the authorisation of the Government of Delhi. (iv) The bill is in the name of Mohd. Umar and Dr. Mohd. Shoaib. They have to pay a total amount of three hundred sixty eight rupees. (v) Yes, we have to pay for water. We pay about Rs. 200 per month. The rate is the same in different colonies. c) What kind of water arrangements were made for travelers in earlier times? Now what do people do about water when they travel? (iii) In the earlier times, the kings or the leaders used to build piau for travellers from where they could drink water. People also used to carry mashak which was leather bag used to store water.
