This week we have purchased three of the latest Eye Gaze systems to add to our existing ones. I am also really pleased to share that the Charitable Trust have provided a grant to enable us to purchase further technology which will provide significant benefit to our pupils. The Charitable Trust have provided much needed support on a range of projects including the grant for our work experience shop and café on campus. This week we have encouraged class teachers to take learning outdoors wherever possible and it reminds us of the wonderful campus we have here at Linden. We are looking for volunteers to help get the Woodland Walk ready for Spring so if you have any spare time please contact Jackie Nolan. At the moment there is a great deal of activity to ensure that our Year 14 students have a secure placement at the end of the year. I would like to thank all Year 14 parents for their support with this and also Alex, Maggie and Magdalena for their input. I am pleased to report that we have not had any notifications of Covid 19 infections since the beginning of March. However we are all remaining vigilant and we will continue to work in bubbles until the end of the Spring term. Our advice remains that if your child is unwell please do not send them to school and request a Covid test. By working together using a combination of approaches we continue with the progress we are making. On Monday we will be sending a letter including details of the next stage of lateral flow testing. As increasing numbers of pupils attend school we are focussing on their wellbeing through the Recovery Curriculum which the DfE has advised all schools to implement. We have a talented team in school developing this aspect of our curriculum and this week two of our middle leaders, Sinead and Nick, gave a presentation on PupilsMental Health at a national conference. Next week we will be sending a survey out on Therapy provision. The work on recruitment by Clare and Senait has been exceptional and by September 2021 we anticipate that we will have a permanent therapy team in place across all disciplines. We will be using exactly the same survey as the one sent out in 2018 in order to compare your feedback. In April we are planning a coffee morning with our Clinical Leads and this will be a further opportunity for you to share your feedback. Dear families

Last week I referred to the feedback from parents, particularly parents of sixth form students that you would like us to focus on technology.

We have a talented team in school developing this aspect of our curriculum and this week two of our middle leaders, Sinead and Nick, gave a presentation on Pupils’ Mental Health at a national conference.

Next week you will all be receiving your child's Personal Learning Goals for the second half of the academic year. Here is a quick explanation of what they are. PLGs reflect the outcomes that your child is working on this term that combines the core and specialists curriculum. Teachers, class teams and the therapy team also look at the Educational Health Care Plan and create goals that will be worked on in school but also can be practised in the home setting. The progress pupils make against Personal Learning Goals is captured via multimedia evidence in Earwig. By logging in into Earwig (the online secure platform) you will be able to see all the evidence of your child’s work towards these goals. If you have any further questions related to PLGs, please contact your child’s class teacher.

We have been revising the start and finish times for each pupil in-line with the March guidance from the Department for Education. You have received individual letters this week informing you of the staggered start and finish time for your child and the allocated entry gate. Please read this information carefully and come back to us with any questions or queries using the following e-mail: [email protected] Thank you. If your child is travelling by transport provided by the Local Authority, we have shared the information on the start off and pick up times for your child.

Staggered start and finish times

This year help us to raise lots of money for Red Nose Day by dressing as a superhero! Choose a well-known superhero, create one of your own or celebrate someone you know who has been a superhero during the pandemic by dressing up as them. Then donate £1 to Red Nose Day. The children and staff will be ‘Sharing a Smile’ by writing jokes and displaying them in their classrooms. The best jokes will be shared on our Twitter account and in next week’s newsletter. You can join in at home too. Download a poster to display in your window at https://www.comicrelief.com/rednoseday/ or ‘Bring the Laughter Home’ by completing a family challenge at https://www.comicrelief.com/rednoseday/fundraise/family-challenge/

Residential Department This week Residential celebrated science week by making their own slime! They chose different colours and added some lavender scent. "It was very gooey but smelled nice" S Science Week Slam Poetry This week four of the Linden Lodge classes have used Slam Poetry Friday to write poems to thank health workers and researchers for all they do for us and all they have done for us over the last year. Science Week

Angels- by Mary McCarthy You work hard for other people, Always putting other's wellbeing Above your own. The way you sacrifice your overall health To make sure everyone is safe Is very touching. Your tender care is soft Like a cat's fur. Without the work that you do, Our society would crumble And fall through. The hours you put in Are next to none. You do all the work While everyone is having fun.

Heroes bringing light- by Aya Barake The simplest of actions Can really go a long way. Consoling the most vulnerable On the hardest of days. From kind words And welcoming smiles, To wiping the blood-soaked tiles, Or rushing to your rescue at 100 miles. From delivering babies And all the in-between, To making sure our loved ones Stay longer, And doing your hardest To extend lives. Your courage is unbelievable, Always willing to thrive. You are the true heroes, Forget Superman and Spiderman. They are fake, You are the true, Because of everything you've been through. Thank you from bringing the light In the darkest of times, You are appreciated From the bottom of our hearts.

Mothers’ Day Crafts in Murray class This week we welcomed most of our students back to school and what a better way to celebrate their return than to make gifts for Mother’s Day. Murray class students made some beautiful collage pictures of flowers that can be hung on the wall and Mothers’ Day cards which give a big hug to show how much they love their mums. They even incorporated science week into their Mothers’ Day craft by attempting to make peppermint creams.

Creative Writing Tsunami Inspired by Michael Morpurgo’s Running Wild By Rishith and Jaydip

It was a beautiful summer day, Tom was swimming in a sea that was as smooth as glass and as relaxing as a hot, comforting bath. He swam like a dolphin, kicking his legs about in the silky water. He was thinking, “This is the best holiday I’ve ever had.” Suddenly, he felt waves pushing him violently, relentlessly towards the beach. He heard the whistling of the wind and sensed the sea swirling and demolishing everything in its path. He thought he was going to drown and that this was the end. The wave was so strong and aggressive, it pulled him struggling and fighting for breath towards the city. He was now suffocating. He saw everything melting away before his eyes. He heard the splintering of the metals as cars, buses and lorries crashed into each other. Shards of wood had fallen everywhere and floated by. There was debris around him as if he was in a landfill. People were terrified, they swam for their lives, scuttling across the water like ants. They were begging for help, but nobody was answering them. Tom swam towards some of them however, he realised he had to save himself so he decided to swim away, but the water was rough. It moved through the streets and parks, even flooding the train stations. The trains were lifted up and floated like toys through the deep ocean.

The water was so heavy, so aggressive and so strong. Then, without warning, it started to go down. It began to recede. He felt surprised and relieved. All of a sudden, the water just released him onto the dirty, drenched ground. He was left on his knees and looked around him, confused and terrified. He was exhausted. He walked back to his hotel, but it was in ruins. Everything had been submerged and then destroyed.
