En 18 años este festival se ha convertido en el mayor encuentro de teatro, música y exposiciones de, nos atreveríamos a decir, Latinoamérica. Su éxito se debe a la singularidad de la cita que reúne por casi todo el mes, a lo mejor del teatro nacional e internacional, pero que además ofrece una serie de actividades que tienen como eje promover la cultura, masificar el teatro y entregar una oportunidad a los miles de visitantes que andan por calles, teatros y salas disfrutando esta oportunidad única. Dejamos de lado los vinos y delicatessen que hemos mencionado en anteriores ediciones. Hoy queremos recomendar algo más tradicional, ad hoc para la fe-cha estival, pero igualmente delicioso: El mote con huesillo, un brebaje refres-cante, que carece de alcohol y que se compone de una mezcla de jugo aca-ramelado, con mote de trigo y duraznos deshidratados, llamados huesillos (sin semilla o cuesco) Su preparación es bastante sencilla. La-var y remojar lo huesillos toda una noche, para rehidratarlos. Luego se cocinan por media hora en agua con azúcar a gusto y un palito de canela. Algunas otras re-cetas hablan de incluir una cáscara de naranja y clavo de olor, dependerá, del gusto del consumidor. Se cuece el mote durante 30 minutos a fuego moderado y luego se retira y se lava con agua helada. Servir en un vaso alto el juego y el mote, considerando 2 huesillos por persona. Recomendación, servir bien frío.Si no quiere prepararlo, existe una proli-feración de lugares donde disfrutar esta tradicional y exquisita bebida chilena en Santiago, que no sólo destaca por su par-ticular sabor, sino también por su asequi-ble valor. Los vasos puedes encontrarlos desde los $500 pesos. Qué mejor. Te re-comendamos dos, a modo de ejemplo. “Copihue”, repartidos por el centro de la ciudad y que tiene su fábrica en Lastra 1209, comuna de Independencia. Otro característicos es “El rey del mote con huesillo” ubicado en Rondizzoni esquina Av. Mirador, comuna de Santiago.

Let’s take aside those wines and deli-catessen products that we have men-tioned in past editions. Today we want to recommend something more traditio-nal, ad hoc for the summer and very de-licious. Mote con huesillo, a refreshing non alcohol drink that is composed by a mix of caramel juice with Mote wheat and dehydrated peaches called huesi-llos (without seed or core). The preparation is really simple. Clean and soak the peaches though and enti-re night for rehydrating them. Then you cook the sugar and a little cinnamon stick for half an hour. Other recipes talk about including an orange rind and a “clavo de olor” that depends on the chef’s taste. The mote is cooked for 30 minutes at moderate fire and then is washed with cold water. Serve the mote and the huesillos in a high glass con-sidering to huesillos per glass. Recom-mendation: best served cold. If you don’t want to trouble yourself with the preparation, there plenty of places in Santiago where you can find this exqui-site Chilean drink, that not only shows off its flavor, but its low cost. You can find glasses at $500. Great. We recom-mend to you two places as an exam-ple. Copihue: which has cars anywhere downtown and a factory in Lastra 1209 in Independecia. The other noted one is “El rey del mote con huesillo” located in Ron-dizzoni, corner of Av. Mirador, Santiago.

Enero es sinónimo de Teatro a Mil y sin este evento nada sería lo mismo en la capital. Es por esto que entrevistamos a Carmen Romero y nos comentó los inícios de este evento, las sorpresas de este año y su percepción sobre el estado del teatro chileno. Porque enero es teatro, danza y música en nuestras calles…enero es Festival Internacional Santiago a Mil.

January is synonym of Teatro a Mil, and without this festival the capital wouldn’t be the same. That’s why we interviewed Carmen Romero and here she talks to us about this event, this year’s surpri-ses and her perception toward the cu-rrent state of Chilean theater. Because January is theater, dance and music in the streets…January is Teatro a Mil.

¿Cómo surge la idea del festival?Es un proyecto que cumple 18 años y surge cuando juntamos a tres compa-ñías importantes nacionales como Tea-tro La Memoria, El Silencio y La Troppa. La idea fue empezar a armar una carte-lera de verano entretenida.

how did the idea of making the festi-val was born? This is an 18 year old project and was born when we joined the three most important theater companies in Chile: Teatro la Memoria, El Silencio and La Troppa. The idea was to make a fun theater summer season.

¿De dónde proviene el nombre? Por-que hay muchos quienes piensan que es porque cuesta mil pesos, pero no es así…Al comienzo se llamó Teatro a Mil por-que tenía que ver con el “a mil por hora”. Nunca hubo una entrada de mil pesos la-mentablemente, porque no existe la posi-bilidad de financiarse con esos recursos.

¿Qué proyectos tiene la fundación?La Fundación Santiago a Mil trabaja en cuatro líneas: primero el festival mismo y lograr que sea permanente, año a año. También está la internacionalización del teatro chileno, donde ayudamos a insta-lar a las grandes compañías en el mun-do. Otra línea de trabajo son las co-pro-ducciones y en este sentido, estamos apostando por nuevos trabajos tanto a nivel internacional como nacional. Final-mente están los circuitos en regiones y hoy estamos presente con “Antofagasta a Mil” y estamos desarrollando uno en Iquique y otro en Talca. ¿Cómo pasaron de ser un festival a una fundación?Tiene que ver con el crecimiento del fes-tival y porque necesitaba una estructura que lo pudiera sostener en el tiempo. Es un festival que se hace con mucho pulso, en un país que está muy lejos de todo y para dar a conocer eso, se creó esta fundación.

¿Cómo ves tú la proliferación de com-pañías jóvenes?Creo que es un bien necesario y este año estamos presentando más teatro emergente que nunca, porque su ca-lidad está más a la par del teatro más maduro, más reconocido.

¿y cuántas obras de teatro emergente habrá?Nueve. Y son diez del teatro que es más reconocido.

Where does the name come from? Many people think it’s because every show is for only $1000 but it isn’t…In the beginning it was called Teatro a Mil because it was referring to “theater full throttle”. There was never a ticket or $1000 because unfortunately there no way of financing with those recourses.

What projects are being evaluated cu-rrently by the Foundation?The Teatro a Mil Foundation is an organi-zation that works with four lines of work: the first is the festival itself, making it per-manently, on a yearly basis. There also the international integration of Chilean theater, where we help the biggest com-panies to install in other countries. Other lines of work are the co-productions and in that sense, we’re betting on our work in a national and international fas-hion. Finally there’s the regional circuits, where we’re currently making the “Anto-fagasta a Mil” festival, and we’re develo-ping another one in Iquique and in Talca. how did the festival turned into a foundation?It has to do with the growth of the fes-tival and because it needed a structure that could last overtime. It’s a festi-val that is developed thanks to great efforts, in a country that’s far from everything and more making it more visible, we created the foundation.

What’s your opinion on the prolifera-tion of younger companies?I think it’s both positive and neces-sary, besides this year we’re in-troducing more emerging theater than ever, because its maturity is on par with most recognized theater. And how many emerging theater plays there’ll be?Nine. And ten of the most recognized theatre.

¿Cómo ves tú el teatro callejero?El teatro hacia la calle es una de las co-sas que nos interesa mucho. Permite compartir y hace de Santiago una ciu-dad más participativa. Este año vamos a tener cuatro compañías nacionales y a invitados que trabajan en teatro de calle.

¿y tú crees que el teatro callejero es una forma de democratizar un poco más el teatro? El teatro callejero tiene una tradición oral en Chile que tiene que ver con el desa-rrollo de una comunidad, de tener un momento de convivencia. Son grupos que rescatan la chilenidad del teatro gritado, del teatro del Paseo Ahumada. Creo que tiene que ver con el convivir, que es importante para los habitantes de Santiago.

¿Qué diferencias ves entre las com-pañías chilenas y las internacionales?El teatro es un espejo, en el que se re-trata lo que somos, lo que queremos. El teatro chileno tiene una identidad que es súper especial, que se reconoce. Y el modo de abordar las temáticas es lo que hace la diferencia entre el teatro na-cional y el extranjero.

how do you see street theater?Street art is a thing that’s very interes-ting to us. It allows to share and makes a city more participative out of Santia-go. This year’s we’re having four local companies and some guest to perform in the streets.

Do you think street theater is it’s a way of democratizing a little bit more the theater?Chilean theater has an oral tradition that has to do with the development of communities, with a moment of sha-ring. They’re groups that aim to rescue the chilenship of “screamed theater”, with the theater of Paseo Ahumada. I think it also has to do with coexisting, a thing that’s very important for the inhabitants of Santiago.

Is there any difference between Chilean companies and international companies? Theater is a mirror in which what we are and what we want is portrayed. Chilean theater has a special identity that is recognizable. The way of approaching different topics marks the difference bet-ween national theater and foreign theater.

En relación a las producciones, ¿tú crees qué sigue existiendo una gran diferencia entre el teatro chileno y el internacional?No creo. Nunca lo he pensado, porque aquello que queremos expresar es algo que es de nosotros, pero que no es muy distinto a lo que quieren expresar otros. Es la forma la distinta.

¿Con qué nos sorprenderán este año?Bueno, hay mucha calle, hay grandes espectáculos en parques y en plazas, tenemos una cartelera donde coinciden los grandes nombres del teatro contem-poráneo. Yo creo que no hay que per-derse ninguno.

¿hay alguna anécdota qué les haya pasado en estos 18 años que sea me-morable?Más que anécdotas, hay que decir que este es un proyecto inédito chileno, con una gestión que involucra a una gran empresa privada como “Minera Escon-dida”, que invierte porque está conven-cida de que el acceso a los bienes cul-turales hace mejores ciudadanos. Ellos se juntan con nosotros, que creemos que esto es posible, a pesar de lo atra-sados que estamos respecto del resto del mundo. Y que nos merecemos tener un festival en enero y que sin éste, enero sería como febrero.

In terms of production, do you think there’s any difference between local and foreign theater? I don’t think so. I’ve never thought that, because whatever we want to express it’s something completely ours, but no very different of what’s being expressed by others. The way, the approach may be different.

What are these year’s surprises? Well, there’s street theater, great shows in parks and squares, we have a plays where great names in theater are joined by contemporary art. I think you can’t miss any play.

Is there any memorable anecdote of these 18 year story?I think we have more than just anec-dotes; I have to say this is an inedit project in Chile, with the management of a great business company, “Minera Escondida” that invests because they believe that the access to cultural go-ods makes better citizens. They join us because we believe this is possible, re-gardless of how far we are from the rest of the world. We deserve to have this festival in January, because otherwise January would be like February.

Juan Pablo Sáez pasó de ser un galán de teleseries a un gestor cultural de relevancia nacional. Para lograrlo de-bió sortear críticas y un incendio en su teatro. Ahora, en plena reconstrucción del emblemático San Ginés, Juan Pa-blo se da un tiempo para hablar de las obras que actualmente tiene en carte-lera, y de sus planes de recorrer Chile con su compañía para hacer teatro gratuito para miles de personas.

Juan Pablo Saéz turned from a soap opera star to cultural manager of national relevance. To achieve it he had to deal with critics and a fire that burned down his theater. Now, in the midst of reconstructing his emble-matic San Ginés, Juan Pablo takes some time off to talk about the plays in which he is performing or producing this summer, and also about his plans to travel through Chile with his thea-ter company to perform for free for thousands of people.

El cambio desde Teatro San Ginés a Corporación Cultural, ¿con qué pro-pósito se hizo?Nadie se viene a hacer rico a una cor-poración cultural. Lo que pasa es que trabajo harto y mis aspiraciones eco-nómicas siempre tienen que ver con los proyectos que existen. O sea, si hay que juntar mucha plata es porque hay que reconstruir el San Ginés, o hay que pagar los derechos de una obra que pueden ser muy caros, etc. Pero no porque esté dentro de mis metas tener una casa en Chicureo y otra en Zapa-llar, con todo el respeto a la gente que si tiene esas aspiraciones. o sea, ¿por amor al arte?Creo que el amor- arte como fin no tie-ne ningún sentido, pero que el amor al arte le llegue a la gente, y que logre darle algún sentido, y mejorarle su cali-dad de vida, ahí sí. Para mí el arte es un medio, no un fin.

Why did Teatro San Ginés turned into a cultural corporation? Nobody works in a cultural corporation trying to get rich. But I work hard and my economic aspirations are always related to new projects. If we need to get a hold of lots of money it’s because we need to reconstruct San Ginés, or we need to raise funds for paying the rights to a screenplay, sometimes very expensive ones. But my goals do not include having a house on Chicureo and another one in Zapallar, with all due respect to the people who has that kind of aspirations. So you’re doing it just out of love for art?I believe that love-art as an end it’s me-aningless on its own, but to accomplish contagion people with my love for arts and making some sense out of it, impro-ving their quality of life, that’s great. For me, art is a medium, no and end.

¿Te molestaron en un comienzo las crí-ticas con respecto al tono de tus obras?Tuve la suerte de estudiar teatro y co-nocer las obras de Moliere y las come-dias de Shakespeare o las comedias griegas. No tengo ningún rollo con la comedia. La comedia es un genero mayor, no como otros artistas que la han ninguneado de manera mezquina como un género menor. Para mí, el hombre que es incapaz de reírse de sí mismo está perdido. Tu compañía tiene una impronta social bien fuerte ¿Cómo surgió aquello?Estudié en el San Ignacio y la formación que me dio el colegio y mis padres, fue muy importante. Para nosotros es una prioridad ayudar. Es nuestro “leitmotiv”. Para nosotros poder aportar desde el arte, aunque sea un grano de arena, es un muy importante. Nos hemos dado cuenta de la importancia del arte como herramienta sanadora, y esto es algo concreto, no es una volá hippie. ¿Qué proyectos tienes para el futuro?Acabo de filmar “¿Dónde está Lupita?” con Gonzalo Justiniano, que se estrena en febrero. Hace poco me llegó un guión que está en proceso de financiamiento y actuaria junto a Benjamín Vicuña. Para el verano estamos haciendo el Fes-tival de Teatro San Ginés, con funciones al aire libre de obras que tuvieron éxito este año como “Taxi”, y algunas reposi-ciones de obras antiguas como “El Bue-no, el Malo y el Chico”.

Where you bothered when you started out and got a lot of critics because of the tone of your plays? I had the good luck of studying thea-ter, where I met plays by Moliere, Shakespeare’s comedies or Greek co-medies. I had no trouble with making comedy. Comedy is a high genre, not like many other artists that have ignored it in a mean spirit as a lower genre. For me, a person who can’t laugh at himself is lost. your company has a strong social im-print, where did that came from?I studied in Colegio San Ignacio, and the social formation my school and my pa-rents gave was very important. For us, being able to help out is a priority, it’s our leitmotiv. For us, being able to contribute even with just a grain of sand is very im-portant. We’ve realized that art is a hea-ling tool, and this is something concrete, not some hippie crap. Do you have any upcoming projects? I’ve just finished shooting “Donde está Lupita” directed by Gonzalo Justiniano, the films is premiering in February. Not so long ago I received a script that’s in its financing stage, and there I will star alongside Benjamin Vicuña. For the summer we’re staging the Festival de Teatro San Ginés, with open air plays that had success during this year, such as Taxi, and some repositions of older plays, like El Bueno, el Malo y el Chico.

Por si fuera poco, Goran también nos hará bailar con la presentación de su último trabajo musical llamado “Alko-hol”, repertorio de canciones que nun-ca se publicaron y que han de ser es-cuchadas y bailadas bajo la influencia de bebidas “espirituosas”, como según el mismo ha señalado. “Alkohol” fue grabado en vivo en un festival de Serbia y podrá ser disfrutado en vivo el martes 18 de enero a las 20:30 horas en el “He-miciclo” frente al Teatro Municipal de Iquique. La suerte de algunos.

has estado en varias oportunidades en Chile, ¿qué podremos ver en “El viento en un violín”? El viento en un violín es mi tercera experiencia como dramaturgo. Fue un proceso largo de reescritura, de-sarrollando los personajes y las his-torias. Es una historia sobre el amor y la aceptación. La posibilidad de encuentro entre personas diferentes, con posiciones sociales enfrentadas, pero todos con un deseo de realiza-ción muy intenso. Seres incapaces, violentos por momentos, absoluta-mente equivocados en la forma de accionar, pero motorizados por el amor y la esperanza de vivir sus vidas. Esta es la segunda co-producción de Timbre 4 y la Fundación Teatro a Mil. ¿Cómo se dio este trabajo en conjunto?Una vez más tuvimos la complicidad del festival y de sus integrantes para embarcarnos en esta nueva aventura.

you have been in Chile several times before, what are we going to see in “El viento en un violín? “El viento en un violín “is my third ori-ginal script. It was a long process of rewriting the story, making up the cha-racters and the stories. It s about love and acceptance. The possibility of en-counter between different people, with social positions at war, but all of them with a similar wish of realization, a very powerful wish. Disabled characters, sometimes violent, acting completely wrong, but impulsed by love and the hope for living their lives. This is the second co-production of Timbre 4 and Fundación Teatro a Mil. how did this joint venture gestated? Once again we had the complicity of the Festival and their participants for getting in this adventure.

Nuestro diálogo es constante y nos emociona el nivel de coincidencia en la mirada del teatro, el deseo de producir y seguir desarrollando nuestra pasión en diferentes lugares del mundo. El festival tiene un nombre ganado en los distintos festivales del mundo y llegar apa-drinados por ellos, es una carta abierta que facilita el desarrollo de los proyectos. Estrenaste esta obra en la Maison des Arts de Creteil (MAC) en París, ¿qué significó para ti como director esa tremenda posibilidad?Era una responsabilidad enorme para mí estrenar allí una nueva obra, por es-tar lejos de casa y con lo que significa para cualquiera estrenar en París un espectáculo. Por suerte la respuesta del público, gente de la profesión, pe-riodistas y programadores fue insupe-rable. La obra atravesó la distancia del lenguaje y conmovió al público que se acercó a la sala. ¿Cómo es la teatralidad de Claudio Tolcachir?A mí el teatro me apasiona, me divier-te y me emociona. El teatro que hago plasmo esa vibración única que toda-vía produce en mí. El teatro tiene que atravesar a la gente, modificarlos e in-volucrarlos.

Our dialogue is constant and the coin-cidence and the same views on theater are really overwhelming, and help us in our desire of producing and keep on de-veloping our passion all over the world. The Festival has won a name of its own in the different festivals around the world, so arriving sponsored by them it’s like an open letter that facilitates the development of the different projects. you premiered the play on the Mai-son des Arts de Creteil (MAC) in Pa-ris, What means this enormous pos-sibility to you as a director?It was a huge responsibility for me to release a new play there, for being far from home and because premiering on Paris is difficult for everyone. Luckily the response from the audiences,from our collegues, from journalists was per-fect. The play overcame the distance of the language and touched the audien-ces that came to see it. how is the theatricality of Claudio Tolcachir?The theater is my passion. It amuses me and also moves me. In my theater I try to reflect that unique vibration that still produces on me. I think that the theater has to cross the people, modified them and involved them absolutely.

Tú has dejado tu propia vara más alta cada vez que has estrenado, ¿se siente la presión a esta altura?Sí, claro. Pero sobre todo para mí. Como uno no puede adivinar la res-puesta del público, optas por trabajar por el propio gusto. Yo hago el teatro que me excita, y si logro que eso pase, estreno feliz. Parece un chico que armó una fiesta sorpresa y está ansio-so por ver la cara de los sorprendidos. Tuviste la oportunidad de actuar en la obra “la noche canta sus canciones”, dirigida por el prestigioso Daniel Ve-ronese, ¿cómo fue esa experiencia?Maravillosa y edificante, como cada una de las experiencias que tuve con Daniel. Tal vez al volver a la actua-ción, después de haber desarrolla-do la dirección con más intensidad, me permitió una experiencia muy relajada y disfrutable. Inolvidable. ¿Qué sensaciones te provoca volver a este festival?El reencuentro con amigos, con gente que adoro y con quienes estoy en deu-da por siempre, por la confianza que depositaron en nosotros desde el pri-mer momento. Una fiesta para mí y para todos los integrantes del grupo. ¿Qué opinas del teatro latinoameri-cano? ¿hay diferencias notorias entre Chile y Argentina?Creo que hay, sobre todas las cosas, una coincidencia. La diversidad de pro-puestas, la energía creadora y la sensa-ción de estar generando una nueva co-rriente transformadora, y que al mismo tiempo heredes un historial construido por distintas generaciones. Después de estar por Chile, ¿qué vie-ne para ti? ¿En qué estarás el 2011?Después de un año muy intenso y de-mandante, pretendo disfrutar de los proyectos realizados. Acompañarlos en sus giras, y sobre todo, respirar el aire de “Timbre”, tanto el teatro como la es-cuela. Tenemos nuevas generaciones muy potentes con las que quiero mez-clarme y disfrutar. Un año para escribir y disfrutar del movimiento generado.

you have exceeded your own mark every time you’ve released another play. Do you feel a pression at this point? Yeah, of course, but mostly for myself. You can’t guess the audience respon-se, so you choose to work by your own taste. I make the theater that arouses me, and if I get that, I released happy. It s like a guy that make his own party and he s anxious for seeing the asto-nished faces. you had the opportunity to act in the play “la noche canta sus cancio-nes”, directed by prestigious Daniel Veronese. how was that experience?Wonderful and edifying, like each of the experiences that I had with Daniel. Maybe when I return to acting after be-ing directing, help me to has a relax experience that I enjoyed a lot. It’s un-forgettable. What sensations provocates your re-turn to this Festival?Meeting again with my friends, with the people that I love and with I’m in debt for ever, because of the trust that they had on us from the first moment. It s a party to me and to every member of the group. What do you think of latin-Ameri-cans theater? There are big differen-ces between Chile and Argentina?I think that, before everything, there is a big coincidence. The diversity of pro-poses, the creative energy and the fe-eling of generating a new transforming current, and at the same time to amuse a big back ground built by many gene-rations. After coming to Chile, what are your plans for the future?After an intense and difficult year, I pre-tend to have a time to enjoy what I ve made. Being with them on their trips, and breathing the air of “Timbre” in the theater and in the school. We have new powerful generations with whom I want be able to enjoy. A year to write and en-joy the generated movement.

Ros Ribas, known as the official pho-tographer of world theatre, with more than 30 years of trajectory and current winner of the Max of scenic arts in Spain. ¿Cómo nació tu amor por la fotografía y cuándo decidiste dedicarte a esto?Estudié pintura en Bellas Artes hasta que me di cuenta de que más que en las salas de arte, en los escenarios del teatro había un arte total: imagen, movi-miento, música, texto y que no era indi-vidual, sino de un equipo de personas que lo hacía mucho más interesante.

how did your love for pictures began?I studied painting in the Bellas Artes and I realized that art rooms weren’t the place for finding art as a whole: Image, movement, music, text, etc. That makes even more interesting, cause it isn’t an individual accomplishment, but a plural, collective one.

¿Por qué fotografiar por años las me-jores puestas en escena del teatro mundial?Se dio de forma espontanea. Con el paso del tiempo muchos directores me comenzaron a llamar para formar parte de su compañía. ¿Existe alguna similitud entre el tea-tro y la fotografía? El teatro es un arte efímero. Sólo lo puede recordar quién lo haya visto. La fotografía inmortaliza este arte y es un recordatorio. Por esto es im-portante formar parte de la compañía teatral, de esta forma puedo sacar el alma de la obra para fotografiarla y no traicionar el recuerdo. Además es mu-cho más complejo cuando los direc-tores utilizan mis fotografías para que sea el afiche de su obra, por ello hay que resumir lo que la obra muestra.

Why photographing for years the staying of world theater?It was something spontaneous. As time went by many directors started to call me to take part in their compa-nies. Is there any similitude between thea-ter and photography?Theater is an ephemeral art. It can only be remembered by the person that has seen it. Photography immortalizes that art and acts as a reminder. That’s why it’s important to be part of the troupe, because that the only way of capturing the essence of it, photographing it and not betrayal the memory. Besides it’s much more complex when directors use my pictures as a poster for their plays, because you have to summarize it, and what it shows.

Cuando observas una obra para fotogra-fiarla, ¿cuál es el principal foco de aten-ción para lograr un resultado óptimo? El principal foco de atención es el texto y lo que el director a través de los actores quiere potenciar de ese texto. Lo importante de una foto, es que es muda a los oídos, y necesariamente debe explicar lo que los actores están diciendo en escena. Para lograrlo me junto por horas con el elenco y me sumo como uno más. Mi fotografía la hacen los actores. En Chile hay mucha gente que no ha te-nido la oportunidad de ver tu obra. ¿Con qué se encontrará el público de Santiago cuando vaya a verla? Se encontrará con un número impor-tante de fotos de muchas obras. Puede ser más interesante para el público que haya visto dichas obras para recordar-las. Están ordenadas por orden crono-lógico de los autores. Muchas obras son clásicas y conocidas. Quién no haya visto estos montajes podrán in-tentar descifrar de que trata cada una de ellas.

Al contemplar la muestra, puedes ver gran parte de tu vida y el esfuerzo de años, ¿qué reflexión trae esto? Al ver las fotos colgadas en la exposi-ción no tengo recuerdos de haberlas hecho yo. Recuerdo aquellos momen-tos de teatro, aquella obra, aquellos ac-tores y directores amigos que hicieron posible mi trabajo.

When you watch a play to photogra-phing it, where’s the main focus of at-tention to achieve a perfect outcome? The main focus of attention is the text and what the director, trough the ac-tors are trying to potentiate in the text. The important thing in a picture is that it’s mute to the ears, and necessarily has to explain what the actors are saying in the stage. To achieve that a join the actors for hours, and I become just like one of them. My pictures are made by actors. In Chile, few people have seen your work. What can the audience expect when they go see it? Audiences will find with a number of important pictures from many plays. It may be more interesting for the public that has attended such plays to remem-ber them. The pictures are in chronolo-gical order of the authors. Many plays are classics, very known. And anyone who hasn’t seen the plays can try to de-cipher what every play about.

While watching your exhibition you can see a big part of your life and the effort of years. What reflections bring this?While watching the pictures hanging on the walls I have no memories of taking them myself. I remember those times of theater, that play, those actors and fellow directors that made my work possible.

¿Cómo nació la idea de hacer un montaje?Este trabajo es el resultado de un pro-ceso de varias ideas que se van acu-mulando por mucho tiempo. Apenas supe de la posibilidad de poder mostrar algo en Matucana 100, todo se armó y concretó en poco tiempo.

Where did the idea of making a sta-ging came from? This work it’s the outcome of a process of multiple ideas accumulating over the years. Just as I knew about the possi-bility of staging something in Matucana 100 everything was put together in a small amount of time.

¿Cómo llegaron al tema del entendi-miento humano y el amor?Nos llamó mucho la atención que el amor hoy en día es el valor último de nuestras sociedad, una historia muy católica donde todo es Dios. Pero tam-bién el amor puede verse como una mera cuestión para la subsistencia de la especie, o como una enferme-dad que hace que tu percepción de las cosas y de la realidad cambien. ¿Qué diferencia hay entre el amor y el entendimiento?Lo que cabe dentro de estos dos con-ceptos es su contradicción. Entender el amor parece imposible, ya que supo-ne algo total e inentendible, o que no cabe en una sola forma de clasifica-ción. La ciencia, en cambio, tiende a clasificar todo, a generar explicaciones de causa y efecto. En este sentido, tú produces hormonas que recorren tu cerebro y se produce el efecto enamo-ramiento, por decirlo de algún modo. ¿Cómo logras plasmar estos con-ceptos en el montaje? A través de una instalación plástica con módulos. Son desplazamientos en es-cala inflables de esta sustancia química llamada “Fenil etil amina”, que tiene un papel definitorio en la experiencia del cuerpo en el amor y en el efecto de sus-tancias de algunas drogas.

¿Qué elementos complementan este montaje? Junto con estos 20 metros aproxi-madamente de formas plásticas re-dondeadas, sujetadas con imanes, habrán recortes de literatura erótica vinculadas al Marqués de Sade, for-mulas explicativas sobre el efecto que produce la “Fenil etil amina” y también estará Tamara González, cantante líri-ca – Barroca, que interpretará piezas de amor.

¿Cómo se concretó la dupla con Die-go Estrada? Somos amigos y vecinos desde niños. Recuerdo que nos juntábamos a ha-cer comics y siempre hemos tenido un diálogo fluido como artistas visuales, por ello, trabajar con él es fácil y se ha dado todo muy fluido para concretar este trabajo.

how did you arrive to the topic of hu-man understanding and love? It caught our attention that in today’s life love is the last value in our so-ciety, a very catholic story where everything is God related. But also, love can be viewed as a simple thing for the survival of the species, or as a disease that makes your percep-tion of reality and things change. What’s the difference between love and understanding?Between those two concepts lays a big contradiction. Understanding love may seem impossible, because it assumes something total and unin-telligible, that doesn’t fit in just one classification. Science, on the other hand, tends to over classify everything, generating cause and effect expla-nations. In that sense, you produ-ce hormones that travel though your brain and that produces the effect of being in love, for saying it somehow. how do you express these concepts in your play? I do it throughout the installation of plastic modules. They are sca-led displacements infallible in this chemical substance called “Fenil etil amina”, that has a defining rol in the experience of the body when in love, and in the effect of some drugs.

What elements complement this sta-ging? Alongside with these 20 meter round plastic figures, subjected by magnets , there’ll be cut out of erotic literature from the Marque of Sade, explicative formulas referring to the effect that “fe-nil etil amina” produces and also Tama-ra Gonzales, a lyrical baroque singer that will perform love related songs.

how the collaboration between your-self and Diego Estrada? We were friends and neighbors sin-ce we were kids. I remember we used to draw comics together and we’ve always had a fluid dialog as visual ar-tists, that being said, working with him is easy and everything has being very fluid in order to complete this work.

¿Por qué la idea de escribir “Chilenas”?Porque a partir de un programa en radio Play de entrevistas a 10 mujeres destacadas en el Bicentenario, realiza-mos un convenio con editorial Planeta para editarlo como libro. Me intere-saba dar a conocer las opiniones de chilenas con carácter sobre el país que tenemos hoy. ¿Qué temas tocas en esas entrevistas?Hablamos sobre sus trabajos, su vida familiar, lo que creen que está pen-diente en Chile y las cosas en las que hemos avanzado. Se repiten temas como la dificultad de conciliar trabajo y vida familiar, la necesidad de que los hombres compartan la vida doméstica y la urgencia de mayor participación de las mujeres en la vida pública.

¿Cómo conseguiste que el prólogo lo escribiera Michelle Bachelet?Llamé por teléfono a su asesora, le conté del proyecto y listo. A la ex Presi-denta le apasionan los temas de muje-res (por algo está en ONU Mujeres) fue muy generosa y se subió rápidamente al proyecto.

¿Cuánto tiempo duró el proceso de escribir el libro?Cuatro meses.

¿Cuál crees que es la principal ca-racterística de la mujer chilena que la diferencia del resto de las mujeres del mundo?Que es fuerte, decidida, aperrada y sumamente maternal. ¿Cómo debería ser la mujer chilena del futuro?Creo que aspiramos a compartir las responsabilidades, a que el mundo sea más mixto, a que se terminen los ambientes laborales excesivamente masculinos y a que hagamos un pacto social para que no seamos las más perjudicadas por la obligación de asu-mir la crianza y la vida doméstica.

¿Qué le dirías a la gente para que lea tu libro?Que es dinámico porque hay diez conversaciones ágiles con mujeres de distintos mundos, y que les servirá para saber lo que piensan las mujeres del Bicentenario.

What inspired you to write “Chile-nas”?In my show on Play Radio, where I interviewed 10 noted women of the Bicentennial, we arranged a deal with publishing house Planeta to edit turn the show into a book. I was interested in introduce the opinions of character Chilean women about the country we have today.

With what topics do you work on these interviews? We talked about their jobs, their family life, what they think is missing or pen-ding in Chile and also in what things we’ve progressed. how did you get Michelle Bachelet to write the prologue? I called her assistant, told her about the project and that was it. The ex presi-dent is very passionate about gender issues, (she’s leads ONU Women), she was very generous and she jump on the project very fast. how much time did the process of writing the book lasted?Four months.

Is there any difference between Chilean women and other women around the world?She’s strong, decided, immensely maternal. how’s future women supposed to be like? I think we aspire to share responsibili-ties, we want a more mixed world, we want extremely male work environments to be over, and finally, we want to make a social pact for not being the sole injured ones cause of the obligation of assuming the raising of the children and domestic life. What would you say to the people so they want to read your book?That it’s dinamic because there’s 10 agile conversations with women from different worlds, and that it’s useful because it will allow you to know what these Biccentenial women think.

¿Cuál es la diferencia del Pablo Illa-nes de “Adrenalina” con el de “Baby Shower”?15 años, lo que no es poco. Empecé a escribir “Adrenalina” cuando todavía estaba en la universidad. “Adrenalina” y “Baby shower” tienen algo en común: ambos relatos tienen ejes femeninos y están influenciados por el tema de la traición y la desconfianza, que aparen-temente me obsesionan.

últimamente en tus series se fue dando una suerte de “camino a la oscuridad”. Fuiste acercándote al horror para culminar en “Baby Shower”, ¿por qué ese desenfrena-do interés? En las primeras teleseries que escribí siempre trataba de incluir el género de horror. En “Adrenalina” había un hecho policial (una estafa) y en la fiesta de graduación el malo, Jack Marshal (Jai-me Azócar), disparaba sobre los gra-duados y sobre Cathy Winter, pero no la mataba. Creo que el camino hacia la oscuridad ha sido también un camino hacia la luz, hacia los temas que real-mente me interesan y el género donde me siento más cómodo escribiendo y dirigiendo. Pero el interés siempre estu-vo y, claro, siempre fue igual de desen-frenado. ¿Cómo nació la idea de llegar al cine y hacer este films? Hace varios años que tenía ganas de dirigir. Tenía varios guiones de largos escritos, pero no se había concretado nada. Empecé la primera versión de este guión justo cuando terminamos de escribir “Alguien te mira”. Al comien-zo era una suerte de película de ven-ganza, muy al estilo “La ultima casa a la izquierda” , pero de a poco empezó a mutar en otra cosa. Al final lo único que se mantuvo de la idea original fue la premisa de un grupo de mujeres en-frentadas a lo desconocido.

What’s the difference from Adrenalina s Pablo Illanes to the current one with Baby Shower?15 years, and that not little time, I started writing Adrenalina when I was still in college. Adrenalina and Baby Shower have something in common: both stories have female lead cha-racters and they’re highly influenced by the topic or betrayal and mistrust, which apparently obsess me.

recently your series began to take a darker tone. you began to get closer and closer to horror to finally end up making Baby Shower. What where you trying to accomplish? In the first soap operas that I wrote I always tried to include some horror elements. In Adrenalina there was a police matter (a rip-off) and at the prom, the bad guy, Jack Marshal (Jaime Azocar) started shooting at the crowd and Cathy Winter, but didn’t killer her. I believe the road to darkness has also been a road the light, towards the topics I’m more interested in and the genre where I feel more comfortable writing and directing. But the interest in these things was always there, and sure, it was always very hectic. Where did the idea for this film came from?Several years ago and wanted to start directing. I had various full length scripts but I felt like nothing was ready. I started writing this script when we were finishing writing “Alguien te Mira”. In the beginning it was sort of a revenge movie, very similar to “The last house on the left”, but it started to change to something else. In the end the only thing that didn’t change was the premise of a group of women facing something unknown.

¿De qué trata “Baby Shower”?Son cuatro compañeras, amigas, que se reúnen después de un tiempo para celebrar un baby shower en una casa de campo. La anfitriona no tarda en confesarles un secreto: el padre de los mellizos que está esperando se va de viaje al día siguiente, y con una de ellas. Entre peleas y recriminaciones, las ami-gas comienzan a caer ante la extraña presencia de uno (o más) asesinos. ¿Cuál es la diferencia en lo estético (fotografía y textura de imagen), en-tre tus series y esta película? Es bastante radical. En cine, y parti-cularmente en el cine de terror, hay una preocupación fundamental por la constitución de una atmósfera opresi-va. En este caso, por ejemplo, el relato transcurre en el campo. Yo quería des-cribir este campo, no como el típico escenario de la película de terror tipo Martes 13, sino como un entorno con vida propia, con elementos aterradores y no necesariamente realistas. En TV el realismo es muy necesario, indispen-sable, incluso, cuando se habla desde otros géneros. Además hay un tema de roles: en TV yo soy sólo guionista, en “Baby shower” soy guionista y director. ¿Cuánto duró el proceso de escribir el guión y el rodaje? Dos años y medio. El guión un año y me-dio, por lo menos. El rodaje duró 33 días. ¿Con qué se encontrará el público en el cine cuando vaya a ver tu pe-lícula?Con una película de terror para ver al borde del asiento, ideal para primeras citas o citas a ciegas, pero también con una historia humana que podría pasarle a cualquiera. ¿Esperas tener el mismo éxito que lograste en la TV con esta película?Prefiero medir el éxito por la cantidad de gritos que se produzcan en la sala.

What’s Baby Shower about? There are 4 friend and ex classmates that reunite after a while to celebrate a baby shower en a country house. The hostess doesn’t take long to confess the others a little secret: the father of the twins that she’s expecting is leaving on a trip the next day with one of them. Between fights and recriminations, the friends star to fall after the presence of one (or many) killers. Is the re any aesthetic difference between your soap operas, series and your film (photography, image texture, etc)? The difference is pretty radical. In movies, particularly in horror films there’s a fundamental concern about the construction of an oppressive atmosphere. In this case, for instance, the story is set in the country side. I wanted to describe the country not as the typical scenario for a Friday the 13th film, but as a setting with life of its own, with scary elements and not with a necessarily realistic approach to it. Besides, in TV realism is much needed, indispensable, even when you’re talking about other genres. Also, there’s an issue about the roles, in TV I was only the writer, in Baby Shower I’m the writer and director. how much did the scriptwriting and shooting process lasted? Two years and a half. The script took a year and a half, at least. The shooting lasted for 33 days. What can the audiences expect from your movie?They are going to see a movie that’s great for first dates, or for blind dates, but also with a film about a human story that could happen to anyone. Do you expect to achieve the same success you had in TV with this film. I rather measure success by the amount of scream in the movie theater.

Una com-binación de lenguajes artísticos, que a través de un espectáculo que cuenta con una fuerte interacción con el pú-blico y una creativa ocupación del es-pacio urbano, logran invitarnos a soñar y nos sumergen en un mundo de fan-tasía. Conversamos desde Francia con Cécile Morel, encargada de difusión de la compañía, quien nos habla de la ma-gia de esta grandiosa puesta escena.

French theater company Trans-Ex-press is one of the pioneers of street art and they are the ones who concei-ved “intervention theater”, what? Well, a combination of artistic languages that through a show with the audience interacting and a creative occupation of public spaces, makes us dream and immerse us in a world of fantasy. We talk with Cécile Morel from France, the P.R. manager for the company, and she talked to us about the magic of this great staging.

When was Transe Express created?It was born in 1982 and was founded by Brigitte Burdin who practiced contem-porary dance and Gilles Rhode, who was a metal sculptor that “contamina-ted” himself with live arts and became one of the pioneers in street technique.

how where the first shows?They were dual spectacles: gesture co-medies and stunts, much like the circus and the dancing. And mimes and tradi-tions of the early “saltimbanquis”

how did Transe Express emerge? Five years later than these early shows, the desire of creating a company with a young cast emerged. Later, the shows started to spread in urban neighborho-ods. And thanks to a trip to Africa, Gi-lles Rhode created the spectacle “Les Tambours”.

how many people work in the company? Like a hundred people between actors, acrobats, bell ringers, dancers, drum-mers, singers, welders, scrappers and other people. Everybody participates on a regular basis in the projects for-med by ephemeral creations or reper-toire, proximity shows, aerials shows or street shows, always considering the proximity of the audiences.

¿Cuándo se creó la compañía Transe Express? Nació en 1982. Fue fundada por Bri-gitte Burdin, quien practicaba danza contemporánea, y Gilles Rhode, origi-nalmente escultor de metal, pero que se “contaminó” de las artes vivas y se convirtió en uno de los pioneros de la técnica de calle.

¿Cuáles fueron los primeros espec-táculos?Eran de a dos: comedias de gestos y proezas, cercanos al circo y a la dan-za. Y pantomimos y tradiciones de los antiguos “saltimbanqui”.

¿Cómo surge la idea de crear Transe-Express?Cinco años más tarde de la creación de estos espectáculos, surgió el deseo de crear una compañía con un elenco de intérpretes, ya que sus espectácu-los empezaron a difundir en barrios más urbanos. Gracias a un viaje que realizó durante siete meses a África, Gilles Rhode dio a luz al espectáculo “Les Tambours”.

¿Quiénes componen la compañía?Una centena de artistas entre actores, trapecistas, campaneros, bailarines, percusionistas, cantantes, soldadores, chatarreros y otros personajes. Todos participan regularmente en los proyec-tos formados por creaciones efímeras o de repertorio, espectáculos de proxi-midad, aéreos o pasacalles, teniendo en cuenta siempre la cercanía con el público.

¿Cómo nace la idea del “arte celeste”?Gilles Rhode empezó a pensar en los famosos pequeños móviles que se cuelgan encima de las cunas. Realizó la estructura, con un guiño a las obras de Calder, que sigue siendo su prin-cipal inspirador. Bastó con instalar a los músicos al final de los hilos de la estructura y levantarla con una grúa si-milar a las que se utilizan en las obras públicas. Los tamboreros se volvieron pequeños soldados de plomo, levan-tados en el aire encima de la multitud. Eso fue el primer “ Mobile Homme” en el ‘90 y 20 años después nace “Lâcher de Violons” (“Lluvia de violines”).

¿y por qué “arte celeste”?Porque no sólo le damos a nuestros espectáculos una dimensión aérea, sino que revalorizamos el urbanismo de cada ciudad, logrando que los es-pectadores puedan soñar y retroceder el tiempo mirando al cielo.

¿Cuál fue la sensación que dejó este primer “espectáculo en el aire”?Lo mágico y lo que descubrió Gilles. Es que al crear esta imagen volando en el cielo de la cuidad, el público en-tero tenia la mirada en el aire, perdida en las estrellas. De manera instintiva se volvían niños y caían en un mundo de sueños, lleno de imaginario fantástico. El público se adueñaba de las imáge-nes creadas y las sombras de los mó-viles, que se reflejaban en los edificios, componían el “maravilloso urbano”.

¿Cuáles son los elementos distintivos de “lluvia de violines”?Gilles quería realizar un trabajo fun-dado en las oposiciones entre los ele-mentos. El tambor representa a la tierra y el sonido del violín a la inmaterialidad de las voces del cielo. Para evitar las imágenes duales y simples, tipo: bien / mal, paraíso / infierno, tan queridas por nuestra cultura judeocristiano, imaginó una tercera materia mas contemporá-nea: el “Char à rythme”, una especie de maquina infernal en la que dos guiño-les golpean alternativamente un tam-bor gigante, y un grupo de Hard-rock destila una música eléctrica gruesa, digna de una tecno-parada medieval.

how was the idea of sky-blue art born? Gilles Rhode started to think about those little mobiles that hang on top of the cradles. He made the structu-re with a wink to Calder’s work, with main inspirer. It only took to install the musicians at the end of the structure and lift it with a crane similar to tho-se used in construction work. The drummers became little tin soldiers and were lifted on top of the crowd. That was the first “Mobile Homme” in the year 1990 and 20 years later “Lâ-cher de Violons” (violin rain) was born.

And why call it Sky-blue art? Because we not only give to our shows an aerial dimension, we also revaluate the urbanism of every city, making the audiences dream and go back in time looking at the sky.

What was the feeling that the first air show provoked? The magical thing that Gilles discove-red is that by creating this image flying in the sky and above the city is that the whole audience was looking at the sky, with their gaze lost in the stars. In an instinctive way, they became children and fell through a dream world, filled with imagination and fantasy. The au-dience owned the created images and the shadow of the mobiles was reflec-ting on the buildings, composing an “urban wonder”.

What are the distinctive elements of “Violin rain”?Gilles wanted to create a work by oppo-sing elements. The drums represent the Earth and the sound of the violins represents the immateriality on the voi-ces in the sky. To avoid Judeo-Christian clichés like opposing good vs. evil, pa-radise vs. hell, etc. He imagined a third more contemporary matter: : the “Char à rythme”, a kind of hellish machine with is played by two puppets with giant drums and a hard-rock band that dis-tills heavy music, worthy of a medieval-techno parade.

A esta joven pareja se les ocurrió el 2005 la idea de instalarse con un nego-cio de té gourmet, gracias a que Tama-ra, según dice su pareja, “recibió de una amiga que vive en Francia una pequeña bola de té verde aromatizado, que al ponerla en infusión desplegaba una flor oculta en su interior”. Este regalo fue el que les hizo “click” y los llevó por el ca-mino del té. En La Tetería priman los aromas, una de-coración minimalista y obras expuestas por los mismos clientes. Aquí podemos encontrar cerca de 100 variedades de té. Sus dueños destacan el PuErh, Chai Masala, infusión de frutas Cranberry y el té verde estilo Gunpowder. Es imposible no querer probar cada uno de ellos.

On 2005, this young couple decided to create a business of gourmet tea. Pa-tricio says that Tamara recieved from a french friend, a little perfumed ball of tea, that after ifusing it, it displayed a flower in it´s interior. This gift was the one that guide them to the road of the tea.

In La Tetería the scents prevale, and a minimalist exposed decoration by the same clients. Here we can found over a 100 varieties of tea. Their owners detach the PuErh, Chai Masala, fruits infusion Cranberry and the green tea Gunpowder. You gotta taste them all.

From January 2 to 15 the competitors will struggle in the northern regions of Chile and Argentina, traveling through the cities of Victoria, Cordoba, San Miguel de Tucuman and San Salvador de Jujuy. Then they’ll cross the border to race in Calama, Iquique, Antofagas-ta, Arica and Copiapo. The last stage of the race will take place back in Argen-tina, in the towns of Chilecito, Cordoba and San Juan, while the grand finale it’s going to go on in Buenos Aires. Cars, motorcycles, and trucks will be the protagonists of this extreme race.In this edition, Chile will be represented by Francisco “Chaleco” Lopez, who will try to beat his last year’s record, where he ended up with the 3th place. Felipe Prohens, the Chilean champion of “rally cross country” and his brother Felipe, will also be amongst other noted Chilean racers. For the third time in a row, this door opens once again in Chile and Argenti-na, where the economic and sports be-nefits are a perfect platform to elevate tourisms in both countries. This is going to be one of the toughest Dakar races ever in the history of the competition.

how did the competition started? Well, in 1977 Thyerry Sabine took the wrong route in the Abidjan-Niza rally, getting lost in the middle of the Libyan Desert and later rescued in awful condi-tions. Later, when he returned to France he decides to share his experience on the beautiful landscapes he found while being lost. Overtime, he decides to create a route starting in Europe and traveling trough Algiers, Agade and ending in Dakar (capital of Senegal). This extreme idea will later cause big repercussions, like the creation in 1979 of the Paris - Dakar. Let’s enjoy this extreme competitions!

Del 2 al 15 de enero los participantes competirán en la zona norte de Chile y Argentina, recorriendo las ciudades de Victoria, Córdoba, San Miguel de Tucumán, San Salvador de Jujuy. Lue-go cruzarán a territorio chileno para adentrarse en Calama, Iquique, Arica, Antofagasta, y Copiapó. La última etapa vuelve a Argentina para pasar por Chi-lecito, San Juan, Córdoba y concluir la competencia en Buenos Aires. De esta forma motos, quads, autos y camiones serán protagonistas de esta extrema competencia. En esta edición representarán a Chile Francisco “Chaleco” López, motociclista que irá en busca de superar su anterior marca del año 2010, donde consiguió un valioso tercer lugar. También el cam-peón chileno de “Rally Cross Country”, Felipe Prohens, y su hermano, entre otros competidores chilenos.

Por tercera vez esta puerta se abre para Chile y Argentina en conjunto, donde los beneficios deportivos y económicos, son una excelente plataforma para aumentar el turismo en ambos países. Una vitrina, pero también uno de los circuitos Dakar más difíciles que han tenido que atra-vesar los competidores en su historia. ¿Cómo comenzó el Dakar? En 1977 Thierry Sabine toma una ruta equivocada en el rally de Abidjan-Niza, perdiéndose en pleno desierto de Libia, para posteriormente ser rescatado en pésimas condiciones físicas. Luego de vivir este accidente, regresa a Francia y decide compartir su experiencia co-mentando los hermosos paisajes des-cubiertos en dicho percance. No fue todo, con el tiempo decide crear una ruta que partiría de Europa, para reco-rrer Alger, Agadez y terminar en Dakar (capital de Senegal). Esta extrema idea causaría grandes repercusiones, tanto así que en el año 1979, se crea final-mente el Paris-Dakar. A disfrutar de las tuercas, mientras este gran aconteci-miento siga pasando por Chile.

Esta modalidad de casa surgida en la Europa medieval, conformada general-mente por muros continuos y comparti-dos, tiene como elemento unificador una circulación central de una sola salida. En nuestro país, esta modalidad de vi-viendas aparecen a fines del siglo XIX y hasta mediados del siglo XX, como so-lución habitacional para paliar el déficit provocado por la inmigración de pobla-ción obrera, provenientes generalmente de los sectores rurales. Hoy día no quedan muchos en pie y en buen estado. Santiago cuenta con al-rededor de 545 de ellos. Algunos fueron reventados por los nuevos conjuntos ha-bitacionales en alturas, y otros derrum-bados por los sucesos sísmicos ocurri-dos en nuestro país. Es una pena sobre todo cuando se trata de una modalidad arquitectónica casi única, ordenada y muy eficiente, origen de la vivienda chi-lena (no hay que confundirlos con los conventillos, construcciones precarias que ocasionalmente poseían fuentes de agua y servicios higiénicos).La mayoría se encuentran en el sector céntrico de Santiago, escondidos entre calles mal-trechas de adoquines característicos de nuestra ciudad antigua.

This king of housing appeared first in medieval Europe, usually formed by continuous and shared walls and has as a unifying element a central circu-lation of just one exit. In our country, these kind of housings appeared in the late XIX and until mid XX as a housing solution to face workers migration from the countryside. Currently, not many Cités are still stan-ding. Santiago has like 545 of them. Some were destroyed to build higher buildings, and others were smashed by the recent earthquake. It’s sad, becau-se these were a unique, highly efficient and ordained architectural modality. They were part of the origins of Chilean housings (not to be confused with te-nements, unstable constructions that most of the times didn’t even have bath services or water.) The majority of the Cités are found in downtown Santiago, hidden between old streets.

Para vivir en comunidad al parecer no se necesita tanto, sólo basta un acceso común y un pequeño patio central, al menos así lo es para los denominados “CITÉ“, nombre francés que traducido al español significa “ciudad pequeña”.

Hace unos años atrás tuve la suerte de pasar una tarde entera dentro de un cité, y fue una experiencia increíble. Recuerdo de bienvenida un portón añejo con pos-tura elegante de estilo clásico, posterior a unas cuantas gradas que por diferen-cias de nivel me permitía diferenciar lo público de lo privado. Un angosto pero extenso patio central común, colorido por sus colgantes guirnaldas navideñas, divertían de extremos a extremo el lugar, aún con ánimo de festejar. El “patio cen-tral”, ese que es de todos y todos lo quie-ren, cada residente le da su uso: Don Carlos y su bicicleta, la señora Rosa y sus macetas de cardenales, el abuelo con su mesa de juego de ajedrez y los niños co-loreando el suelo con tizas desgastadas. El sentido de pertenencia tiene que ver, no sólo con el uso común que se le da, sino que además con el respeto de cuidar y compartir lo que en definitiva identifica a estas pequeñas ciudades llamadas cites, un sistema sinérgico en sí mismo con un concepto espacial y funcional. El cité es sinónimo de vida de barrio, de comunidad, de compartir con el vecino, del encuentro en un espacio común; que genera una identidad colec-tiva que la mayoría de las veces refuerza el tejido social de la vecindad. Por lo mis-mo, hay que hacer un tremendo esfuerzo por rescatarlos y no me refiero sólo a su restauración y conservación, sino que apuntar mucho más allá, aplicando sus conceptos espaciales y funcionales a los nuevos asentamientos urbanos. La idea es saber quienes viven a nuestro alrededor, con nombres y apellidos, en donde podamos crear lazos de amistad, vecindad y lo más importante, sentido de pertenecía. Esta es la única mane-ra de amar lo que tenemos y mejorar nuestra calidad de vida y la del entorno.

A few years ago, I was lucky enough to spend an entire afternoon in a Cité, that was an incredible experience. I remember the welcoming of an ele-gant old gate of classic style and later grandstands that because of its irregu-lar disposition allowed me to distinguish between the public parts and the private parts of the building. A narrow but big central yard, filled with color thanks to the Christmas decoration. The central patio, where everyone has a use for it: Don Carlos and his bicycle, Mis-ses Rosa and her flowerpots filled with flowers, the grandpa playing chess and the kids coloring the floor with chalk.

The sense of belonging not only has to do with the common use you give to a Cité , but also with the respect and the caring and sharing, that’s the main thing in this little cities called Cités, a synergis-tic system with a functional and spatial concept. The Cité in synonym of neigh-borhood life, of community, of sharing with your neighbor and of encountering in a common area. This generates co-llective identity that many times enforces the social tissue of the neighborhood. Because of this, we must make an effort to rescue them, not just preserve them and restore them, but a much deeper thing; we need to apply its spatial and functionality concepts in the new urban housings. The idea is to generate ties with our neighbors, names and sur-names, create friendship ties, and the most important thing: a sense of belon-ging. This is the only way of loving what we have and to improve our life quality.

A.) ha realizado una impor-tante apuesta por el turismo náutico, que comenzó después de una visita que realizaron altos ejecutivos y di-rectores de dicha empresa al sur de Chile, lugar donde navegaron maravi-llándose con la enorme belleza natural de la zona.

La empresa cuenta con el catamarán “Agunsa Orca”, embarcación de cómo-das instalaciones y moderno diseño, que con su alta velocidad disminuye considerablemente los tiempos de na-vegación, logrando llegar a los puntos de destino en poco tiempo. Su brillan-te servicio hace de éste un lugar ideal para disfrutar de los maravillosos pai-sajes que ofrecen los fiordos y glacia-res del Sur. Además de la nave “Agunsa Orca” cuentan con la “Agunsa-Tonina”, nave de 19,5 metros de eslora, 4,20 de manga y 1,5 de puntal. Cuenta con dos motores de 400 HP cada uno, de última generación. Tiene dos salones, un es-tándar y un VIP (este último con mayor espacio). Cuenta con tres baños (uno de ellos para minusválidos).

Expedición a los Glaciares Balmace-da y Serrano.El Catamarán Agunsa-Orca o Lancha Tonina, comienza su navegación por el Canal Señoret hacia el Monte Bal-maceda mientras se disfruta de un snack servido a bordo. El primer punto de interés es el Monumento Histórico Nacional de Puerto Bories, el cual fue fundado en 1913 por la Sociedad Ex-plotadora de Tierra del Fuego, que por más de 60 años fue el frigorífico más importante de la zona. Luego, adentrándose por el Fiordo de Última Esperanza, se navega hasta la Isla Guanaco, donde se aprecian los pequeños y maravillosos delfines ma-gallánicos o toninas. Continuando el viaje hasta Punta de Lobos, Agunsa Orca se detiene para visitar la cascada y acantilados de Cóndores.El viaje continúa hacia el Monte Bal-maceda (2.035 metros de altura) para apreciar, primero el glaciar del mismo nombre, y luego desembarcar en Puer-to Toro y comenzar una caminata por la ribera de la laguna, siempre acom-pañado por un guía. Balmaceda and Serrano glaciers Ex-pedition. “Agunsa Orca” catamaran and “Agun-sa Tonina” motorboat start sailing in the Señoret Canal toward Monte Balmace-da, while you enjoy an on board snack. The first point of interest is the Historical Monumento of Puerto Bories, founded in 1913 by the “Sociedad Explotadora de Tierra del Fuego” the most impor-tant fridge of the region for more than 60 years. Then, the trip continues through the Ultima Esperanza Fiord, navigating to Guanaco Island where you can see the beautiful magallanican dolphins (also known as toninas). Continuing the sail to Punta de Lobos, where “Agunsa Orca” stops to visit the waterfalls and the Condores cliff. The trip contius though Monte Balma-ceda (2035 meter high) to wonder with the immense glacier and then arriving to Puerto Toro and star a walk by the lagoon’s brook, always accompanied by a tourist guide. Through the the coigües native forest, and onto the Se-rrano Glacier, you can marvel with the impressive vegetation and the contrast between the clean sky and the ice in the sea. Back on the ship, the unique flavor of whisky with millennial ice cubes, and a second snak wait for the passenger.

Canal de montañas – 5 Glaciers ex-pedition. The trip beggins towards Fiordo de las Montañas where the main attraction is the 5 glaciers from Cordillera Sarmien-to. First you travel trough the Almiran-te Montt Gulf, the for the Santa Maria Canal, skirting though Diego Portales island where you can see the specta-cular Cordillera Riesco. Later arriving at the Canal de las Montañas, a fiord whe-re the flora are faun are abundant. You can see the different mammals, birds, and vegetation, worthy of an earthly paradise. The first glacier you’ll see is the Zamiu-dio, then in front of the Bahia Huiros, is el Bernal Glacier, later the Hermann Glacier, continuing with the Encina Glacier and finally the Paredes Glacier. We recom-mend to taste “mini shrimp tacos”, 10 tortillas filled with panko breaded shrimps, lettuce, guacamole and sour sauce; or the light and tasty Vietnamese rolls (made out of rice paste).
