What is Live export?

Live export is when living animals are transported, usually to another state or across

a national border.

Page 3: Live animal export

Defined

Australian cattle are being exported to countries all over the world, but it has been

discovered in Indonesian abattoirs that animals are being slaughtered brutally, and inhumanly. I chose this topic because it is extremely unjust, current and some one needs to speak for the

animals. I want to raise awareness to everyone starting at B.W.P.S.

Why is our cattle Shipped there?

Indonesia is the biggest buyer of Live Australian cattle at a whopping 60%, and even though the

cruelty has been exposed the government is making excuses to keep on sending them over. Also for Australian farmers to make money the

cattle have to be sold and Indonesia is a big market. And Indonesia buy our cattle because Indonesia is a large country, with not enough

land capacity to farm large herds of cattle.

What happens when they are exported ?

The ships our cattle are sent on can carry up to 100,000 cattle for voyages, up to three weeks

without food or water. When they arrive these cattle encounter

multiple handling such as being dragged , no food or water, a different climate and other

factors which cause stress, injuries and illness. Also most Australian cattle are not often

handled and are stressed by human handling.

What is an abattoir?

An abattoir is a place where animals are slaughtered, for their meat for human

consumption.

What happens in abattoirs

When our cattle arrive at Indonesian abattoirs they will immediately sense fear.

In regular abattoirs cattle are stunned before slaughter which is about as quick and pain free

as it gets! But Islamic laws do not count unconscious as being alive. So cattle endure

extreme pain their Hein legs or fore legs are tied together they are dragged, watered tormented,

brutally beated and treated very inhumanly.

What happens in abattoirs

We have no control over how our cattle is treated in other countries, which is why we

have to stop shipping them there because it is wrong the way they are treated.

The ban

A few months ago at each major parliament house in Australia people protested to stop exporting animals to Indonesia. After the

horrifying images and footage revealed on four corners. But the ban has been lifted and cattle continue to be sent to Indonesia, but protests and online campaigns continue to not accept

this decision.

Who its effecting?

When live export to Indonesia was banned it put financial pressure on Australian farmers>

Because they were then forced to keep the cattle for longer having to provide for them,

which was difficult due to not receiving any on come from exporting them!
