28th Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 3

PASTORS CORNER: Today, October 14, Archbishop Oscar Romero will be canonized a saint in Rome. The Cleveland diocese has had a special relationship with El Salvador since our first mission team in 1964. Since then there has not only been the priests, religious women and laity on the mission teams who served the Church in the people of El Salvador but now there have been hundreds from across the diocese who have participated in missionary experiences to discover the love of the Salvadoran people and the beauty of the country. In addition to Romero’s martyrdom, Sr. Dorothy

Kazel, OSU and Jean Donovan, who were members of the diocesan mission team, died as martyrs just months later. On this day that Oscar Romero is canonized may we keep him and all who have died for the faith in our prayers and for the Salvadoran people as they continue to live out their faith in the midst of poverty and civil unrest. Planning continues in preparation for hosting the Night to Shine prom night for people with special needs. This prom night sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation is an evening centered on the love of God for people with special needs ages 14 and older. There is a lot that is involved to plan for this night. A brief description of the night follows: Every guest of Night to Shine enters this complimentary event on a red carpet complete with a warm welcome from a friendly crowd and paparazzi. Once inside, guest receive the royal treatment, including hair and makeup stations, shoe shining areas, limousine rides, corsages and boutonnieres, a catered dinner, karaoke, prom favors, a dance floor … all leading up to the moment when each guest is crowned king or queen of the prom. As you can see there is much to plan and many vendors and sponsors needed to make this a memorable night. The next meeting of the planning committee is Wednesday, Oct. 17th at 7pm in the hall. If you would like to be a part of the planning to secure the vendors and sponsors please join us at this meeting. The Living Rosary is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 25th at 7pm in the church. This prayer experience of the rosary is led by a person who represent a bead on the rosary. It is a wonderful experience of the community coming together to pray the rosary. Hope to see you there.

STEWARDSHIP CORNER: Today, in the Gospel Jesus says, “It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” (MARK 10:25) Jesus uses tough language that we may not want to hear. But, stewards are all called to be generous with all our gifts. Not just the ones we pick and choose, but all our gifts: our time in prayer to God, our talent in participating in parish ministries and our treasure supporting our local parish and other charities. FAMILY FAITH FORMATION: The rich man in this Sunday’s Gospel wants to follow Jesus, but, when Jesus tells him he must give up all he owns, he feels sad. It is hard to give up the things we have. Jesus doesn’t want us to hold too tightly to things of the world, but rather to desire Heaven. Question of the Week: What things do you hold onto that might keep you from following Jesus? 2ND GRADE PARENT MEETING for students in our GLFF program will be on Sunday, October 28th, in the Chapel at 10:15am. At least one parent from each family MUST attend this informative meeting in preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. GLFF NEWS: Spend time together as a family discussing the Family Corner reflection. Visit the Gospel Weekl ies webs i te a t ht tp ://www.pflaumweeklies.com/parents/ and select the "Gospel at Home" link to access the Family Guide for this week. MARRIED COUPLES: Back to school help! Has your relationship taken a backseat to soccer and football games? Kids are important, but your relationship is more important. Quote from recent couple, "We wanted so much more for us and our kids. There is not a shred of doubt in our minds that going on that one Weekend helped make our home warmer, more loving, and enabled us to be more nurturing to our children." Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend: Nov. 9-11 at the Wingate Inn, Streetsboro. Info: 330-305-9963 Apply: GreatMarriagesOhio.org

HELPING HANDS THANKS: Thank you for your generous donation for the immigrants and refugees. All donations were delivered to the Los Ninos de Corsos ministry and are on their way to those in need. Thank you for giving the needed “drink of water” and thank you for your continued support of the Helping Hands Ministry. MATTER OF BALANCE: Are you concerned about falling? Join a FREE Matter of Balance class. This nationally recognized program reduces the fear of falling, increases activity level through a small muscle movement exercise program and has discussions on home safety that helps to remove hazards from the home. The workshop will be held at the parish hall on Thursday from 9:00am - 11:00am starting on October 18th and concluding on December 13th. There will be no session on November 22nd. Refreshments will be served. To register contact Sue Schniegenberg at 440-926-1610. register early as class size is limited. LADY’S GUILD: Our next meeting is on October 15th at 6:30pm in the parish hall (note the earlier time for the general meeting portion). All from the parish interested in this unique topic are invited to join us. Hope to see you there. Refreshments will be provided.

“Don’t be afraid to give your time to Christ! Time given to Christ is never time lost, but rather time gained, so that our relationships and indeed our whole life may become more profoundly human.” - St. John Paul II
