No matter what it would take, no matter all the hardships, they were willing and eager to make all sacrifices for the sake of bringing the Gospel, the Good News to a group of people who knew nothing about the One True God and His Son Jesus. According to encounters recorded by Isaac Joques in a daily journal, he described a tragedy in 1642 where a native tribe attacked a group of 40 men attempting to gather supplies needed for their camp in Quebec. In this raid some of the group escaped, some were killed, 22 members were captured and brought to a place called Ossernenon, New York, near to Albany. In the village 3 Hurons were burned alive, many others were tortured by tearing out their finger nails, chewing their fingers, and beating them with clubs. Many other vicious encounters would take place again and again but they would not stop their missionary work for the sake of the Gospel. In 1644 St. Isaac Joques was able to return to his home land of France. His physical appearance was so changed from all his ordeals he had to introduce himself. Even the Royalty came to honor him and wished to kiss what she called his martyred hand. After a time of recovery and regaining his strength to travel again St. Isaac Joques returned to Montreal hoping to enter into peace treaties with government officials in New France. Soon after, the final earthly tragedy came upon him and St. John de Lalande, when the Iroquois attacked them with tomahawks. The news of their deaths reached Quebec nine months later. Try to learn more about these Saints. Let their lives inspire us to do more and more for Jesus especially in reaching out to those who do not yet actually know about the One True God.

MY ANNUAL VISIT TO WILKES-BARRE, PA

In remembrance of the anniversaries of my

parents passing I plan to visit my home town

Monday through Thursday. Mass as usual on

Friday. All Mass Intentions for this week will go

Feast Day of the North American Martyrs St. Isaac Joques, St. John de Brebeuf and Companions.

Saturday, October 19.

These Jesuit Missionaries began their journey

from France traveling across the great sea to the New

World around 1640’s. This long trip took 3 months to

complete. No matter what it would take, no matter all

the hardships, they were willing and eager to make all

sacrifices for the sake of bringing the Gospel, the Good

News to a group of people who knew nothing about

the One True God and His Son Jesus.

According to encounters recorded by Isaac Joques in a daily journal, he described a tragedy in 1642

where a native tribe attacked a group of 40 men attempting to gather supplies needed for their camp in

Quebec. In this raid some of the group escaped, some were killed, 22 members were captured and

brought to a place called Ossernenon, New York, near to Albany.

In the village 3 Hurons were burned alive, many others were tortured by tearing out their finger nails,

chewing their fingers, and beating them with clubs. Many other vicious encounters would take place again

and again but they would not stop their missionary work for the sake of the Gospel.

In 1644 St. Isaac Joques was able to return to his home land of France. His physical appearance was so

changed from all his ordeals he had to introduce himself. Even the Royalty came to honor him and wished

to kiss what she called his martyred hand.

After a time of recovery and regaining his strength to travel again St. Isaac Joques returned to Montreal

hoping to enter into peace treaties with government officials in New France.

Soon after, the final earthly tragedy came upon him and St. John de Lalande, when the Iroquois

attacked them with tomahawks. The news of their deaths reached Quebec nine months later.

Try to learn more about these Saints. Let their lives inspire us to do more and more for Jesus

especially in reaching out to those who do not yet actually know about the One True God.

ATTENTION ALTAR SERVERS

-Calling all Altar Servers to a rehearsal in

preparation for the visit of our Bishop in November. Rehearsal is scheduled for Sat. Nov. 16 – 9:30 am followed by our usual breakfast. We need to assign Servers for each Liturgy, at both the 8:30 and 11:00 am for Sunday, November 24. There are extra parts to the Liturgy and there are extra duties at the Altar and so it would be helpful to have at least 6 Servers on duty for each Liturgy.

Thank you Altar Servers at

Our Lady of the Cedars Church.

-Calling out to new Altar Servers. A special training class for new Altar Servers is

scheduled for Saturday, November 9 – 9:30 am. followed by a new recruit reception. Anyone needing another date for a server class please talk to me. ********************************************
