Classroom Scoop

Library "Active learning" happens when students engage with material, participate in the class, and

collaborate with each other. At Delhi Public School our students don’t just listen and

memorize; instead, they demonstrate a process, or apply a concept to a real-world situation.

Learning by doing has encouraged our students to think out of the box. It is this child

centered approach where our students participate rigorously and bring about efficient

learning experiences

Sports Activity

Swimming

As a children of Grade - 1 have got an extra swimming time with their friends to keep

themselves fit. Swimming is a great workout because you need to move your whole

body against the resistance of the water. It keeps your heart rate up but takes some

of the impact stress off your body. It builds endurance, muscle strength and

cardiovascular fitness

Cricket

Cricket is a sport which is played between two teams of eleven players each who score.

This is done by hitting the ball across the boundary, or by running between two sets of

three small, wooden posts called wickets. The wickets are at each end of a rectangle

of short grass called 'the pitch'. Grade -1 children were introduced to the game by

the coach with basic style of catching the ball when it is batted by the batsman.

Football Football is a team sport played between two teams each consisting of eleven players.

It is a ball game played on a rectangular grass field in our campus with a goal at each

end. Football coach explained the young children of Grade -1 that other than the goal

keepers who stop the goal of the opposite team, players should not use their hands or

arms to push the ball in a general way. They were also told that the two teams of

eleven players compete to get a football thereby scoring a goal. The team which scores

the most goals at the conclusion of the game is the winner; if both the teams have an

equal number of goals then the game is a draw.

Parachute Activity Parachute activities are among the most memorable physical education experiences of

a young child’s life. Just seeing the ‘chute creates excitement and joy for most

students. It is also an important opportunity to reinforce critical personal

responsibility skills, as well as introduce movement concepts and early muscular

anatomy. It also teaches locomotive skill like hopping and jumping. Children also

focused on rhythm and listening skills while working together to move the parachute in

different ways.

From the Principal’s Desk

Dear Parents, I was reading through the below article and thought of sharing it with

you. With the birth of every child, a parent is born. It’s a metamorphosis that

a parent goes through. It is a stepping stone to the world of growing up, where

not only does the child evolve, but we too, as parents grow too. It’s a journey of joy, a Journey of discovery, a journey of mixed emotions, and a journey of

expectations. We are today a breed of conscious parents—who want to do best

for their child, provide the best and ensure the child grows to be the best! But when it comes to ‘best’, who judges it? Who sets the parameters for it? Are our expectations

weighing down the child? This blog makes you think!

Are our children always trying to please us? The bonding and attachment between a child and parent continues throughout a

child’s life, but it changes through times in behavior and intensity. Because of

thechild-parent relationship, a child is extremely sensitive to what pleases his parents. This relationship is a key to a child’s positive behavior. A parent communicates desires or reinforcements verbally and

non-verbally, until a child knows what exactly his or her parent wants. Is this fair on the child where to please the

parental expectations, he does or does not do something, rather than for his own interest?

Managing expectations

Expectations should be reasonable and not generate anxiety and a very little satisfaction.

1) Where we go wrong is the fact that our expectations are mainly based upon achievements rather than effort. Ensure your child enjoys what he does rather than just focus on getting on top of the crowd.

2) Unrealistic expectations can be harmful. There should be a maintained balance between desired results and

achievable results so that the self-esteem of the child does not take a hit. 3) Parental goal is not to have a control or dictate a child’s goal, but to guide the child in setting goals. Parental

expectations are a cornerstone of discipline in children. When paired with loving supportive attitude, setting clear

behavioral and academic expectations for children, they can help them learn social skills and learn manners. 4) However for expectations to lead to positive behavior, parental rules shouldn’t gag the child-it should always be

developmentally appropriate. Thus parents need to be mature themselves to understand the intangible needs of the

children.

5) Do not push the child to a level where it cannot be taken in any more 6) Love your child, praise him or her amply.

7) Lets imbibe in them that they must do things with love and interest, then only will it help in a better future,

including academics. Let us as parents free our minds of societal pressures, our egos and create a humane human being.
