YOUR FAMILY ASSOC IATION

Evide nc e of Littell Fam·i l y Reu n io n s ha ve been discovered dating well back l nt .o the 1800 1 s. Undoubted l y there were gatherings of the family before our great country obtained its independence . The children and grandchildren of John Littell probably gathered together in New Jersey two centuries ag q. Possibl y at the same time Benjamin Littell of Vermont or Jonah Littell who migrated first toward North Carolina gathered with their kIn.

We havewrlttenaccounts of Littell acti v itie s as far west as Washington and throughout the midwest. In recent time var io us groups have assembled in~ Indiana, New Jersey and Pennsyl va nia . In 1971 a group decided we should become officially Incorporated as a family association. On June 6, 1972 the State of Ind iana issued a cer~~~~~~~: ~~~-in corporation to LITTELL FAMILIES OF

Membership dues of $5.00 annually are asked of the members . Th ose who desire to become Life Members may do so by the payment of $85.00 A membership certificate has been authorized and the secretary Is in the process of preparing one fo r each member. A lineag e certificate is also being prepared for each member, many of which have a I rea dy been rn a i 1 ed to members.

Reunions, meetings, picnics, etc. are sched-uled from time to time, the primary annual meetI ng has been held on the Saturday nearest July 4th at William Adams Littell's hors·e farm near Aliquippa, Pennsylvania . He and his wife Ellie also host a midwinter gathering at their winter home on Hypoluxo Island, lantana, Florida .

Research into the various origins of the Lit-tell I ine s has been the primary function of many of the group . The origin of most who have borne the surname has been traced to one of five early LIt te II s.

YOUR FAMILY MAGAZINE

Littell's living Age was first published by Eliakim Littell in Boston on May II, 1844 . It continued through 97 years of pub! !cation unti 1 August, 1941. The original pub I !cation might aptly be described as an early day 11 Readers Digest'' with an emphasis on translating and reprinting articles from the foreign press.

Littell Families of America, Inc. in f estigated the rights to the name and it was determined that we could assume pub! I cation of the magazine. lt was in the Fall of 1972 that pub I I cation was resumed . Walter Wilson Littell whose great grandfather was a brother of Eliakim Littell has edited the seven issues pub! ished since 1972.

A COPY OF EACH ISSUE PUBLISHED IS FREE \liTH YOUR MEMBERSHIP IN THE ASSOCIATION.

The lregular issue of the 11 Age 11 is much more sophisticated and polished than this 1feeble attempt by your secretary . It is printed on better quality paper and is 6x9 in size ·. It contains many pictures. The results of the research mentioned in the previou s article herein are published in the 11 Age 11

• The 11 goings on 11 at the various reunions are set forth, usually with pictures of those attending. Articles contributed by YOU are sought and gladly accepted . Vital statistics afford the opportunity to learn of births and deaths among the Littell de~scendants. Marriages are happily announced.

One member, Joyce Littell Hamilton, recently traveled to England and discovered some heretofore unknown data about the I ine of William and Elizabeth {Moore) Littell. This appeared in Issue# 6 . An index of that which has appeared in the first four issues appears in# 7.

The editor solicits your contributions . His mail ingaddress is 1280 Plantation Plac"e, Daytona Beach, Florida 32014 . Walter welcomes all material a ~ ai !able pertaining to the Littell fami-1 i es.

deceased, two have been transferred to Llfe Membership status, one has resigned membership, three have been placed on inactive as they last paid in 1972, sixty-nine last paid in 1973 and are also considered inactive, eighty-one are unpaid for 1975, they will be treated as inactive if their dues are not received by the time the Spring Issue of the "Age" is ready for distribution. We are reluctant to discontinue sending copies of Littell's Living Age to members who have fallen back in th~t p a y men t of annual dues. However, if the organization is to continue w e must depend on the support of all who have joined to mainta 1 n their memberships. Your officers, especially your Editor Walter W . llttell and yoll:r Secretary Judge Noble K. Littell and t o a lesser degree your Treasurer, have spent many hours a not inconsiderable amount of out-of-pocket money to keep alive what we consider to be one of our finer and more interest 1 n g American Families and its association. Let us keep the spirit of the Bicentennial, which many Littells are a ptively celebrat -ing, and get up the back dues to keep your Association rolling .

Respectfully Submitted,_
