We are learning to make notes and organise them using a table. We are learning to use research skills to find out information. We are learning to use our spelling strategies with our spelling words. If so, who was he? Why was he called ‘sir’? When did he live? What was he well known for? Any other facts? Does Raeburn Place in Stockbridge have any connection to Sir Henry Raeburn? Was there really an old pond that dried up? What happened? We also heard that there were the Raeburn Vaults. Can you find the following information: What is a vault? What vaults are there in Edinburgh and why? What are they used for? Task 1: Using the ‘Spelling Story’ can you write a passage of text that contains all ten of your spelling words? It’s not as easy as you think! Task 2: Please do a spelling assessment on Friday. Complete the task in jotter. Spelling lists are attached to this overview. Task 2: This week you are to start creating your own exploding volcano! You can create your volcano with materials you have lying

Papier Mache Volcano – Materials needed:

an empty plastic bottle (small is good)

newspaper

masking tape or sellotape

a box or similar “to contain” the volcano

plain flour & water (for the DIY papier mache paste)

paints

waterproof varnish (optional, but great for being able to reuse the volcano science project)

Your aim for this week is to post a

Chapter 6: Optional Baking Task

We hear in chapter 6 that Jessie loves baking! One of Jessie’s

specialities is rock buns. Do you

want to try making some? Here’s

her recipe which makes 16 rock

buns

Ingredients:

225g (8 oz) self raising flour

Pinch of salt

100g (4 oz) margarine

100g (4 oz) raisins (optional)

50g (2 oz) caster sugar

1 egg

Milk to mix

Instructions:

1. Heat oven to 200C, 400F –

Gas Mark 6.

2. Grease two baking trays

3. Mix the flour and salt, rub in

the margarine

4. Stir in the raisins and sugar

5. Mix to a stiff dough with egg

and milk

6. Place in rough heaps on the

baking tray and bake for 10-15

minutes
