A third story claims the apparition of a woman is regularly seen traversing the main stairs in the lobby, and to look out over the foyer – a story which likely results from another suicide from City Hall’s Clock Tower in 1937, although recent photos of the stairwell ex- hibit a possible apparition.(Haunts Of Brisbane) Dreamworld is a theme park in Coomera, Queens- land. In addition, since the Buzzsaw ride was built in the 2011, there have been sightings of a ghost called Jack Darke, who has been claimed to have been killed by a buzzsaw. • North Head Quarantine Station in Manly, NewSouth Wales housed victims of a number of dis-eases including smallpox and the Spanish flu be-tween 1833 and 1984. It was the site of over 500deaths. A number of ghost tours are run on thegrounds, which includes a large cemetery.[11]

• North Kapunda Hotel in Kapunda, South Aus-tralia is reputed to have several ghosts due to it be-ing the main meeting point in the town for over acentury.[12] The hotel was investigated on the TVseriesHaunting: Australia and found that most para-normal activity occurred in a disused section of thebuilding formerly used for accommodation.[13]

• Port Arthur in Tasmania operate nightly ghosttours.

• The Princess Theatre Melbourne has reportedseveral ghosts since the building opened in 1886.The theatre’s best known “inhabitant” is FrederickBaker, whose stage name was Frederick Federici,a talented bass-baritone singer who died in March1888 whilst singing the role of Mephistopheles inFaust – and who was seen by the rest of the casttaking his bows with them shortly thereafter. Foryears the theater kept a seat vacant in the dress circlefor Federici (only ceasing the practice on economicgrounds), and his appearance in the dress circle dur-ing rehearsals for a new show is considered a goodomen.[14]

• Whepstead House in Wellington Point, Queens-land is rumoured to have a number of ghosts:Gilbert Burnett’s wife Martha who spreads thescent of lavender perfume; the daughter of Gilbertand Martha, who apparently disappeared without atrace; Gilbert & Martha’s son who had a witheredleg and haunts the stairwell; and the ghost of anelderly servant who is seen around the house in abowler’s hat and suit. While no historical basis hasbeen found for any of these stories, the house itselfacted as a private hospital for a number of decades,during which time over a dozen people died. It isconsidered likely that the building’s haunted atmo-sphere and unusual events result from this period ofuse.[15]

• TheWoodford Academy in Woodford, New SouthWales was originally built in 1834 as an inn and laterbecame a private boys school. Multiple accounts ofhauntings have reportedly occurred at the site andhas since started conducting ghost tours.[16]

• Victoria Park Railway Tunnel in Brisbane,Queensland played host to one of Brisbane’s mostfamous ghost sightings in 1965, after a group of

local children overheard rumors suggesting a ghosthad been observed within the tunnel. The followingnight, the children crept down in the hope of spottingthe apparition. One boy, lagging behind the rest ofthe group as they passed through the tunnel, was ap-parently accosted by a misty green, limbless, head-less apparition that seemed to materialise from thewall of the tunnel. Seemingly mesmerised by thespectre, the boy was dragged by his friends to thenearby Royal Brisbane Hospital, who feared he hadbeen possessed by the ghost. The ensuing tale, asrelated by the children to hospital staff, made sensa-tional newspaper headlines the next day, and withina short time thousands of local residents were liningboth sides of the tunnel in the hopes of catching aglimpse of the ghost. The week following, the Vic-toria Park ghost became the major talking point ofBrisbane, and numerous suggestions to its identitywere put forward, although the spectremay very wellhave resulted from one of the numerous suicides thattook place in Victoria Park in previous years.[17]

3 Barbados

• Chase Vault is a burial vault in the cemetery ofthe Christ Church Parish Church in Oistins, ChristChurch, Barbados best known for a widespread butunverified legend of “mysterious moving coffins".According to the story, each time the heavily sealedvault was opened in the early 19th century for burialof a family member, all of the lead coffins hadchanged position. The facts of the story are un-verified, and sceptics call the tale “historically dubi-ous.” The tale appears to have originated from anec-dotes told by Thomas H. Orderson, Rector of ChristChurch during the 1800s, and subsequently repeatedin James Edward Alexander's 1833 TransatlanticSketches.[18][19][20][21][22][23][24]

4 Brazil

• The Joelma Building in São Paulo is allegedlyhaunted by victims of the fire that started on Febru-ary 1, 1974, after an air conditioning unit on thetwelfth floor overheated; centered on the “Mysteryof the Thirteen Souls”, individuals who died withinan elevator as they were trying to escape the fire, andare haunting the building today.[25]

5 Cambodia

• In Sihanoukville, the Independence Hotel has beenrumoured to be haunted by a poltergeist.[26]

6 Canada

7 China• The Burma Inn in Beijing has been reported tohave a ghost walking throughout corridors lookingfor the chef that poisoned his food. The chef stabbedhimself on the same evening of the poisoned pa-tron’s death.[27][28]

• ChaoneiNo. 81, an abandonedmansion in Beijing’sChaoyangmen neighborhood, is said to be hauntedby the ghost of a Kuomintang officer’s mistress whokilled herself there after he left her behind when hefled to Taiwan in 1949. It was the setting for the2014 Chinese-language horror film The House ThatNever Dies.[29]

• The Forbidden City, located in the heart of Beijingand home to the Palace Museum, where many visi-tors and workers have claimed to have seen ghosts,such as a group of ladies-in-waiting or eunuchswalking by.[27]

• The Great Wall of China has many reports ofstrange apparitions and the sounds ofmarching foot-steps, from as reported by local tourists and em-ployees. Many local villagers will not go up thewall alone, believing something very unfortunatewill happen if they do. The TV series DestinationTruth sent an expedition to spend the night inves-tigating these supernatural reports near “The WildWall.”[30]

• The Huguan Huiguan Opera House was built in1807, originally as a home for the poor. Suppos-

edly built on top of an ancient graveyard, it is now asmall opera house and museum holding regular per-formances. Legend has it that if a stone is throwninto the courtyard, a loud scolding will be heard, butno one will be seen.[31]

• The Normandie Apartment, now the WukangMansion, in Shanghai, was named after the WorldWar I warship Normandie, and was designed bythe famous Hungarian architect Ladislav Hudec.Sounds of footsteps running up the stairs, loudvoices from empty rooms, and even the sounds ofbreaking glass are rumoured to be heard from thisapartment building. The seventh floor corner apart-ment is believed to be haunted by a former tenant,who supposedly was an actress who committed sui-cide by jumping out of the window.[27][32]

• The Qiu Mansion was built by two brothers whowere peasants turned millionaires during the begin-ning of the 20th century. They lived a lavish lifestylewith a garden around the mansion complete withpeacocks, tigers, and crocodiles. During the primeof their life they both simply disappeared. Sincethen workers within the closed mansion complain ofbizarre animal bites and sightings.[27]

• The TuenMun Road is considered haunted, wheremany car accident deaths occur, said to be the re-sult of drivers trying to avoid hitting ghosts that sud-denly materialize in the middle of the road. Somedrivers have reported to officers that they had lostcomplete control of their vehicle, as if someone elsewere driving.[27][33]

• The Yun Shan Fan Dian hotel in Chengde is sup-posedly haunted with a man in western clothing anda woman in ancient Chinese imperial attire, who al-ways lurk at the end of the eighth story corridor.There have been a few occasional sightings of othersdressed in ancient Chinese clothing as well.[34]

8 Colombia

9 Czech Republic

• Zvíkov Castle: Until 1597 there are stories abouta Zvíkovský Rarášek (Rarach is a supernatural be-ing common in Slavic folklore, similar to an impor trickster) which haunts people in the ancient

tower, Markomanka. This tower has stones en-graved with unknown symbols, and was built dur-ing the Marcomanni rule over Bohemia, in the 1stcentury BC and 2nd century AD. It was integratedinto Zvíkov castle hundreds of years later. Weirdevents occur here frequently, including weird pho-tos, technical problems, unpredictable behaviour ofanimals, spontaneous extinguishing of fires, electro-magnetic anomalies, and the presence of ghosts. InCzech media it’s a popular subject of investigation.Other areas of the castle are also haunted; it is said tobe dangerous to sleep in the main tower, with any-one who does dying within a year. Another mon-ster common in Czech culture, fire hounds are alsopart of the myths surrounding the castle. It is saidthat these spectral dogs (in some accounts they aredepicted with burning eyes) are guarding a hiddentunnel underneath Zvíkov.[35][36][37][38][39]

10 Denmark• Dragsholm Castle in Zealand is said to be hauntedby the ghost of James Hepburn, 4th Earl of Both-well, imprisoned there for about five years until hisdeath in 1578.[40]

11 Egypt• Baron Empain Palace: Tourists have reportedlyheard voices throughout the palace late at night.Guards and police have reported seeing ghostly ap-paritions of people who were once residents of thepalace, wandering the outside lawn at midnight.[34]

• Farafra Desert: The ghost of Akhenaten is said towander the Farafra Desert (also known as the WhiteDesert) of Egypt, reported by dozens of touristsand nomads. Legend says this is because Akhen-aten abolished the Egyptian gods when he becomePharaoh, angering the religious followers and priestsof Egypt. Upon his death, the priests are believedto have cursed him to wander the deserts forever aspunishment.[41]

• Pyramids of Giza: A man in early 20th-centuryclothing has been seen by visitors, rumored to bethe ghost of Howard Carter. Various employees andtourists have reported seeing an orb apparition of anEgyptian Pharaoh, floating away from the pyramidstowards the Valley of the Kings.[34]

• Valley of the Kings: Eyewitnesses have reportedseeing the vision of an Egyptian Pharaoh in the Val-ley of the Kings, wearing his golden collar, head-dress, and riding a fiery chariot with black phantomhorses.[34]

The château de Châteaubriant, said to be haunted by the ghostof Françoise de Foix.

• Château de Brissac: legend says that Jacques deBrézé caught his wife, Charlotte, with another man,and in a fit of rage murdered them both. Touristshave reported a sense of an eerie feeling, slighttouches, ghostly sightings, and wailing throughoutthe halls.[42]

• Château de Châteaubriant: this castle in Brittanyis said to be haunted by the ghost of Françoise deFoix, a mistress of King Francis I. According to thelegend, she was locked in her bed chambers by herhusband, Jean de Laval-Châteaubriant, Governor ofBrittany, jealous of her relationship with the King.She died on 16 October 1537, rumored to have beeneither poisoned or bled to death. Since then, therehave been ghostly sightings at the château every 16October at midnight.[43]

• Château de Trécesson: among the various leg-ends attached to this castle are those of the DamesBlanches (White Ladies), the headless curate, thephantom card players and the Manoir du Piedd'Ânon.[44]

• Château de Versailles: once home to the Frenchroyal family between 1682 and 1789, a few touristsand employees have reported seeing people in 18th-century clothing. There have also been sightingsof the beheaded Queen Marie Antoinette, orbs andghostly presences in tourists’ photos, and descrip-tions of being touched by ghosts.[42]

• Mont Saint-Michel: ghostly sightings of monkswandering the area have been reported.[42]

• Paris: The Catacombs of Paris are said to behaunted by strange orbs and human figures from dif-ferent centuries. There have also been reports of

voices being heard through the walls, and the feelingof a presence or a touch by someone not there.[42]

• Père Lachaise Cemetery: the largest cemetery inParis, France; it is the most visited cemetery in theworld, and is said to be one of the most hauntedcemeteries in Europe. Some people have experi-enced overwhelming shivers and a sense of unease,while others have experienced a feeling of calm-ness. Claims have been made of photos from vis-itors and investigators revealing orbs and ghostlyapparitions.[42]

13 Germany• Berlin: The Reichstag building has been reported tobe haunted by numerous ghosts of famous Germanpolitical figures.[34]

• Heidelberg: The Hexenturm (Witches Tower) andthe Nazi Amphitheatre are both said to be hauntedby various ghosts.[34]

• Frankenstein Castle: Frankenstein Castle(German: Burg Frankenstein) is a real hilltop castlein the Odenwald, overlooking the city of Darmstadt,and allegedly an inspiration for Mary Shelley whenshe wrote her monster novel Frankenstein. TheSyFy TV show Ghost Hunters International aired anentire episode about the castle and testified it had"... significant paranormal activity”.[45]

• Lichtenegg Castle: The ghost of a lady in a whitedress is said to be seen standing in front of the en-trance to the ruins at midnight. She will, usually, sitdown on a flat rock covered with moss.[34]

• Schloss Nordkirchen: The castle was built between1703 and 1734. According to the legend, at fullmoon and on certain foggy nights, a few people havereported seeing a luxurious carriage with stallionsrunning through the grounds.[34]

• Wolfsegg, Bavaria, Wolfsegg Castle: This 14th-century castle was supposed to be a sanctuary fortravellers . The folklore of this haunting originatedfrom the 1500s, when Ulrich von Laaber hired twoyoung farmers to kill his wife, Klara von Helfen-stein, after discovering she was having an affair.Shortly thereafter, Ulrich and his sons also suddenlydied. There have been reports of strange noisescoming out of a cave area near the castle. Severalexpeditions into the cave, uncovering numerous an-imal skeletons, leading locals to decide the noiseshad come from hunters who were hiding their prey.While the cave noises might have been solved, this

has not been the case of the haunting of the “WhiteWoman” who is still restlessly making her rounds ofthe castle.[34]

• Würzburg: There is supposedly the ghost a deadnun walking through the halls of PraemonstratenserAbbey. The ghost is said to be that of Maria Re-nata Von Mossau, accused of mixing herbs into ev-eryone’s food in order to bewitch them. The nunwas taken to be executed only three days after hersentencing in court. She was first decapitated, andthen burned and her ashes scattered. To this day,there are reports of her walking down the hallwaysand holding a bouquet of roses while picking off thepetals, leaving a trail across the grounds.[34]

14 Hong Kong• Tuen Mun Road: An expressway in Hong Kongthat has recorded an astounding number of road ac-cidents since 1978. Drivers claim the accidents aredue to ghosts who suddenly appear in front of cars,causing them to swerve violently.

15 India• Bhangarh Fort, Bhangarh, Rajasthan: Bhangarhwas purportedly brought to ruin as a consequenceof the curse of Baba Balanath. Another legend at-tributes it to the curse of the sorcerer Singhiya.[46]

• Three Kings Church, Goa: It is believed that spir-its of those three kings roam in this church. Dueto these happenings, This place has turned into aspooky and creepy church.

• Grand Paradi Towers, Mumbai, Maharashtra:Said to be the most famous haunted building inMumbai, as it was the site of several suicides anddeaths.[47]

• Lambi Dehar Mines, Mussoorie, Uttarakhand:An alleged screaming witch, and several accidents,are claimed to have been associated with paranormalactivity.[48]

• Dumas Beach, Surat, Gujarat: As per Hindu tra-dition, the human body is burnt after death, and thisbeach is used by the local residents for that purpose.The tourists who visit this beach hear many voices,but cannot see anyone. These voices tell them to goback to where they have come from.[49]

• Lothian Cemetery, Delhi: The oldest burialground for Christians in Delhi is also the ground for

unexplainable activities. People claim to have seena headless ghost walking in the Cemetery with hishead in hands.

16 Indonesia

The basement of the Building B of Lawang Sewu, a formerprison. It is one of the rooms where ghost sightings have beenreported.

• Jeruk Purut Cemetery: A cemetery in Jakarta saidto be haunted by the ghost of a decapitated pastor,which carries its head around with it, and is followedby a large black dog. The story was used as the in-spiration for the 2006 film,Hantu Jeruk Purut.[50][51]

• Lawang Sewu: Literally meaning a “thousanddoors” in Javanese, it is a former Dutch colonialbuilding located in Semarang, in central Java. Manyghost sightings have been reported here, includinga ghost of a Dutch lady as well as headless ghouls.During one of the ghost hunting programs on televi-sion, a ghost was purportedly caught on camera.[52]

• Pelabuhan Ratu: Legend says that Nyai RoroKidul (Nyai is a Javanese honorific forMadame), theQueen of the South Sea and daughter of King PrabuSiliwangi, is supposed to have committed suicide byjumping off the cliff into the sea. Rumors say that ifsomeone wears green when swimming (the Queen’sfavourite color), he or she will be pulled by her ghostinto the sea. Room 308 at the Samudra Beach Hotelis set aside for the Queen’s ghost.[53][54]

17 Ireland

• Charles Fort: Haunted by a 17th-century brideknown as “The White Lady of Kinsale”.[55]

• Charleville Castle: This castle is haunted by thethird Earl of Charleville's younger daughter, Har-riet. She lost her life after falling from the mainstaircase of this building at the age of eight, in April1861.[56] It was featured on Scariest Places on Earth,Most Haunted, and Ghost Hunters International.

• Drumbeg Manor in Inver, Donegal: Consideredto be one of the most haunted places in all Europe.Apparitions and strange events are reported to havetaken place within the manor, and on its grounds.Stories say that a screaming woman can be heard,as well as the appearance of a man in a white suitwalking the halls.[57]

• Ducketts Grove: The mansion was owned by theDuckett family for 300 years, and is said to behaunted by a Banshee Ghost. On March 17, 2011,the SyFy show Destination Truth featured a four-hour live investigation for the season finale to findout the mystery of the ruins.[58]

• Kilmainham Gaol: This former prison has para-normal activities of lights which often turn them-selves on and off in the prison’s chapel, unseen forcespushing people over, apparitional footsteps, the feel-ing of being watched by spirits, as well as unex-plained bangs and disembodied voices.[59]

• Kinnitty Castle: This Gothic castle sits on a plotthat once housed Druids and Bards. It has witnesseda long and turbulent history, and is reportedly thehome of many ghosts, the most popular of which isthe Phantom Monk of Kinnitty.[60] It was featuredon Most Haunted.

• Malahide Castle: This castle is haunted by LordGaltrim, Sir Walter Hussey, the son of the Baronof Galtrim. Killed in battle on his wedding dayin the 15th century, his apparition roams the cas-tle at night, groaning in pain, while pointing at thespear wound in his side. There is also Lady Matilda“Maud” Plunkett. Her spirit appears to workersand guests as she did on the day of her marriageto the Lord Chief Justice. Maud would chase hisspirit through the corridors. The third spirit is Puck,a jester who fell in love with Gerard FitzGerald'sdaughter, Lady Eleanor, who was detained at thecastle by Henry VIII for inciting rebellions. Onesnowy night in December, Puck was found stabbedthrough the heart, still wearing his jester suit andcap. Before his death, he swore that he would haunthere until a master with a bride from the peopleruled this castle. However, he promised not to harmany male Talbot who slept here. Numerous visitorshave reported seeing the jester’s face on some pho-tos taken here. The White Lady is the fourth ap-parition here. The White Lady is a painting of a

very beautiful, but unknown, lady which hangs onthe castle’s Great Wall. It is said that she wouldleave her painting at times and wander through thegrounds at night. The fifth and final spirit is MilesCorbet. He was given this castle and the surroundingproperty by Oliver Cromwell. During the Restora-tion, Miles was made to pay for his crimes, and washanged. It is reported that his apparition appears asa whole soldier in armour which then suddenly fallinto pieces.[61]

• Montpelier Hill: The Stewards House, or Killa-kee House, was built around 1765 by the Conollyfamily as a hunting lodge. The house has a reputa-tion for being haunted. Stories tell of a particularlylarge ghostly black cat. The best documented ac-count occurred between 1968 and 1970 when theEvening Herald and Evening Press newspapers car-ried a number of reports regarding a Mrs. Margaret

The Stewards House

O'Brien and her husband Nicholas, a retired Gardasuperintendent, who were converting the house intoan arts centre. During the conversion, tradesmenemployed on the work site began complaining ofghosts. One night, a friend of the O'Brien’s, artistTom McAssey, and two workmen were confrontedby a spectral figure and a black cat with glowing redeyes. McAssey painted a portrait of the cat whichhung in the house for several years afterwards. Al-though locals were skeptical of the reports, furtherapparitions were reported, most notably that of anIndian gentleman, and of two nuns called BlessedMargaret and Holy Mary who had taken part inblack masses on Mountpelier Hill. There were alsoreports of incorporeal ringing bells and poltergeistactivity. In 1970, an RTÉ television crew recordeda documentary about the house. In the documen-tary, a clairvoyant called Sheila St. Clair communi-cated with the spirits of the house through automaticwriting. In 1971, a plumber working in the housediscovered a grave with a skeleton of a small fig-ure, most likely that of a child or, perhaps, the bodyof the dwarf alleged to have been sacrificed by themembers of the Hell Fire Club. The house operatedas a restaurant in the 1990s before closing in 2001;it is now a private residence.[62][63][64]

• Leap Castle: Many people were imprisoned andexecuted in this castle, and it is supposedly hauntedby several spirits.[65] It was featured on ScariestPlaces on Earth and Most Haunted.

• Renyle HouseHotel in Galway: Haunted by formeranonymous remaining guests.[66]

• Ross Castle: Guests often wake at night hearingdisembodied voices and doors banging and shut-ting on their own. An apparitional spirit who roamshere is Richard Nugent’s daughter, Sabina. Herlover, Orwin drowned himself. A second appari-tional spirit who roams here is Orwin’s father, Myles“The Slasher” O'Reilly. This Irish soldier spent hislast night here before dying in a battle in 1644.[67]

• St. Michan’s Church: This church is haunted bydisembodied whispering voices from mummies en-tombed in the vaults.[68]

• Shelbourne Hotel: This hotel is believed to behaunted by a seven-year-old girl from the 18th cen-tury, namedMaryMasters, who had lived in the rowof houses which once stood where the hotel is now.She died due to cholera in 1791. Her apparitionroams the halls.[69]

18 Japan• Amiidaji (Temple of Amida): In the ShimonosekiStrait, it is the location of a legendary haunting. Itis said that the blind Biwa hōshi Hoichi, a residentof the temple, was visited every night by the ghostof a dead samurai, and made to play the biwa inthe cemetery. When the priest of the temple foundout, he had the heart sutra painted on every part ofHoichi’s body apart from his ears. When the samu-rai returned to take Hoichi to the cemetery, he couldonly see Hoichi’s ears, so he took them instead,leaving Hoichi earless, leading to his nickname,“Mimi-Nashi Hoichi” (Hōichi the Earless). Thislegend was famously retold by Lafcadio Hearn inhis Kwaidan: Stories and Studies of Strange Things,which was adapted as part of Masaki Kobayashi'sfilm Kwaidan.[70][71]

• Aokigahara: The forest at the bottom of Mt. Fujiis a popular location for suicide. This gives rise toa widespread belief that it is haunted. It was fea-tured on an episode of Destination Truth on theSyFy Channel.[72]

• Okiku’s Well: The well at Himeji Castle is oftensaid to be haunted by the ghost of Okiku. She issupposed to rise from the well at night and count tonine before shrieking and returning to the well.[72]

• Tambun Inn: Located in Ipoh, it is one of the toptourist destinations inMalaysia, and is reported to behaunted by many ghostly apparitions. Some of theseaccounts mention lights turning on and off, soundsof whispers and eerie cries, as well as a report of theghost of an old woman spotted within the vicinity ofthe inn.[73]

• A former yacht belonging to Errol Flynn, the USSZaca, is berthed here and is supposed to be haunted.Witnesses have reported seeing Errol Flynn’s frus-trated ghost pacing on board. Others have describedthe sounds of voices and laughter as if a wild partywas happening on board.[74]

22 Myanmar

• Keng Tung: Kyainge Tong New Hotel was once apalace, it is now a reportedly haunted hotel.[75]

23 New Zealand

• Larnach Castle, on Otago Peninsula, is said to behaunted by at least one, and possibly two ghosts: thatof Kate, daughter of the mansion’s original owner,William Larnach; and that of Larnach’s first wife,Eliza.[76][77][78]

• The Vulcan Hotel, in Saint Bathans, Otago is re-putedly haunted by the ghost of a nineteenth centuryprostitute, “The Rose”.[79][80]

• Lier Sykehus: An old insane asylum situated inDrammen, Norway, where people claim to haveseen ghosts, shadows and apparitions.[81]

25 Oman• Bahla: A town located in Oman. In neighboringGulf countries and Oman itself, there are rumors ofBahla being home to jinns, which are same as geniesin English.[82]

26 Pakistan• The Koh-i-Chiltan peak: This mountain inBalochistan is described, according to a local mythand the legend associated with it, as being hauntedby the "... spirits of forty babies.”[83]

• TheMohatta Palace in Karachi: Said to be hauntedby ghosts of the British Raj era. Museum guideshave reportedly seen various objects which havemoved from their original place, or shifted aboutwhile guards have claimed to have “felt” the pres-ence of certain spirits during the night.[84][85]

27 Philippines• Baguio City: Is itself considered highly haunted.Aside from the Philippine Military Academy andTeachers’ Camp, there are other haunted placesscattered throughout the city, such as cemeteries,old hotels and other sites where structures used tostand until the 1990 Luzon earthquake destroyedthem, injuring and killing the people inside. Theabandoned Diplomat Hotel at Dominican Hill isone of the haunted places and has been a siteof executions done by the Japanese during WorldWar II. The Laperal White House, now ownedby one of the prominent Filipino-Chinese businessmagnate billionaires, Lucio Tan, is also reportedlyhaunted.[86][87]

• Balete Drive: A residential area in Cubao, QuezonCity is famous for the apparition of a white lady. It istold that there was a teenage girl who was raped andkilled by a taxi driver in the 1950s or she was killedby American soldiers duringWorldWar II. It is pos-sible that the lady of Balete is seeking revenge.[88]

• Clark Air Base Hospital: Considered as the mosthaunted place in the Philippines. There are reportsof screams, apparitions, voices and footsteps by bothguards and visitors. Ghost Hunters International vis-ited the site in 2009, and confirmed the paranormalactivities in the area.[89]

• The Manila Film Center: The site of a construc-tion accident in the early 1980s. When construc-tion of the center was rushed for a film festival, the

ceiling scaffolding collapsed, killing several work-men. Rather than halt construction to rescue sur-vivors and retrieve the bodies of the dead work-men, Imelda Marcos, the First Lady and the mainfinancier of the project, was believed to have orderedcement to be poured into the orchestra, entomb-ing the fallen workmen, some of whom were evenburied alive. Various ghostly activities have beenreported on the site, including mysterious sounds,voices and poltergeist activity. In the late 1990s, agroup called the Spirit Questors began to make visitsto the film center, in an attempt to contact and ap-pease the souls of the workmen who were killed inthe building. Some of these spirits claimed to havemoved on, but a few allegedly remain.[90]

• The Ozone Disco: A disco in Quezon City thatcaught on fire.[91] Due to mass panicking, nobodywas able to get out. Some people near the locationhear ghostly disco music in their houses at night andsee faint people dancing.[92]

• Some prestigious universities in the Philippines alsoare reportedly haunted. The University of thePhilippines, University of Santo Tomas, De La SalleUniversity, and Ateneo de Manila University are afew of these reportedly haunted institutions.

28 Portugal• The Beau-Séjour Palace, in Lisbon, is said to behaunted by the Baron of Glória, who lived in thepalace in the 19th century. Employees working atthe palace report moving and disappearing objectsand windows opening and closing abruptly. Visitorsto the gardens also report hearing the ringing of non-existent bells.[93]

• Visitors at the Bela Vista Hotel, in Portimão, re-port hearing unexplainable wailings and bangs onthe walls at night. The ghost of the previous ownerof the hotel is said to haunt room 108, where shereportedly died.[94]

• The Castelinho de São João do Estoril, in Estoril,is said to be haunted by the ghost of a little blind girlwho accidentally fell to her death in a nearby cliff.[95]

• The Quinta das Conchas, in Lisbon, is believed tobe haunted by the ghost of a woman from São Toméand Príncipe who’s reported to have been kept in acage for several years by Francisco Mantero Belard,the owner of the house in the early 20th century.[94]

• The Quinta da Juncosa, in Penafiel, is said to behaunted by the Baron of Lages and his family. Sus-pecting that his wife was unfaithful to him, the baronreportedly tied her to one of his horse’s legs and

dragged her across the floor, killing her. After find-ing that she was innocent, he proceeded to kill hischildren and commit suicide. Locals have reportedseeing the ghost of the baron several times over theyears.[96]

Castle of Good Hope

• Castle of Good Hope: This 17th-century DutchEast India Company fort in Cape Town is believedto be the most haunted site in South Africa. Theresident ghosts reportedly include the ghost of LadyAnne Barnard who lived there, the ghost of a soldierwho hanged himself in the bell tower and the ghostsof soldiers pacing the battlements.[98]:18–28[99][100]

• Kempton Park Hospital: This abandoned hospitalin Kempton Park, Gauteng is frequented by thrill-seekers and ghost hunters.[100][101][102]

• Nottingham Road Hotel: A hotel in KwaZulu-Natal, where the ghost of a former barmaid is saidto still wander the hotel moving pots, light fix-tures, and sheets, as well as ringing the servicebell.[98]:174–175[103]

• Somerset Hospital: South Africa’s oldest hospi-tal in Green Point, Cape Town, where residentghosts reportedly include Sister Henrietta Stock-dale, a blonde girl combing her hair and others thatroam the corridors at night.[98]:157[104]

Palace of Linares

• Palace of Linares in Madrid: Built between 1872and 1890 for the Marquis of Linares José de Murga.According the legend this place´s the most hauntedof Spain. Supposedly, a little girl appears in themasion, the Marquis fathered her with his sisterand they murdered her for to occult their incestuousrelationship.[105][106]

34 Sweden• Toftaholm Herrgård: The legend relates the storyof a baron whose daughter was promised to a com-moner, but the baron gave his daughter to someoneelse. On the day of the wedding, the commonerhanged himself from the rafters. The spirit of thecommoner is said to wander Room 324, where therafters once were.[107]

• Borgvattnets prästgård: The rectory of thesmall village of Borgvattnet in Jämtland, northernSweden, where there have been reports of hauntingssince the early 1920s. Today, the rectory is open tothe public, and people are allowed to spend up totwo nights for a price. The Swedish TV Show, Detokända, once went to the rectory for a visit, wereunable to leave, and were forced to spend the night.

There is also an infamous rocking chair, which sto-ries are told of throwing a priest who once lived thereon the floor multiple times.[108][109]

35 Switzerland

In the federal city of Berne: The house located inJunkerngasse no 54 is said to be haunted. The origin ofthis belief is unknown.[110]

36 Thailand

• Lipe Island, Thailand: Located in the AndamanSea, Lipe is inhabited by the Chao-Le, an ethnicgroup nicknamed the “Gypsies of the Sea”. TheChao-Le have animist beliefs, and say their island isfull of rowdy spirits which they call ha-too. Touristsalso claim feeling the presence of invisible forcesduring their stays there. Residents are said to be ableto appease these spirits with offerings of cupcakesand cold strawberry softdrinks.[111]

• Crime Suppression Division Jail Cell: Many pris-oners claim to have seen ghosts in their jail cells.[112]

• PhitsanulokMansion: The official residence of theThailand Prime Minister. The Mansion is howeverrumored to have many ghosts.[113]

• Kamchanod Forest: is on a small island cut off bysmall waterways near the village of Tambon WangTong, Amphoe Ban Dung, Udon Thani Province,and its dense forest is reputed by most locals to bethe underground kingdom of the mythical PhayaNaga and one place of its most famous ghoststories.[114]

• Lumphini Park: is a 360-rai (57.6-hectare (142-acre)) park in Bangkok, Thailand. It is said that thehaunted house in the park.[115]
