Hundreds of complaints of price gouging, many over the rising price of gasoline, are mostly unfounded, according to the state attorney general’s office.

The AG’s office has received more than 1,400 complaints but investigators found that in most cases, the high cost of gas at the pump was the result of high prices paid by the retailer for the fuel.
