WRITING ASSIGNMENT – WEEK 11

(The first version)

Topic: Types of Friends

Outline:

I. Introduction

TS: But have you ever wondered how many types of friends we have? In my opinion, the

answer is three.

II. Body

1. Great listeners that we can discuss our inner most feelings

2. Excellent students that we have to compete with, jealously admire and learn a lot from

them

3. Mixture of two previous ones

III. Conclusion

RS: More importantly, whatever kind or category of friend we have, if the person is a true

friend, there is the most valuable property of our life.

WritingBeyond a doubt, we should know and remember that friends can and will improve our lives.

A friend is usually someone we are not related to by either birth, marriage or from any legal

ties that bind us. But have you ever wondered how many types of friends we have? In my

opinion, the answer is three.

We can discuss our inner most feelings with the first group of them. They are patient and

deeply sympathetic listeners. They can spend more than two hours “suffering from” our 

constantly changing moods from terribly defiant to unduly pessimistic. Then, those friends

give us helpful advice, especially, in whatever cases, they always encourage us to overcome

 problems or try harder to achieve progress. The second type of friends, we cannot behavechildishly, dependently and comfortably like that. Both we and they have to compete with

each other and jealously admire “the opponents”. Truly, we can learn a lot from them through

work-the only topic discussed. They help us guardedly, sometimes reluctantly and so do we.

We are indifferent to their personal feelings and try not to express our maudlin behavior.

Finally, the third ideal type of friends is a mixture of two previous ones. However, in my

opinion, those people, who are great listeners and excel in working are extremely rare. Our 

friends are only half-outstanding and we should be the other to make them perfect.

 Normally, a friend may be a casual, close, best, realist, nurturer, motivator or role model

friend. Real friendship is very essential to every one of us in our daily lives. The important

factors that make people become friends and how to keep a good friendship going arenecessary, can be learned and practiced. More importantly, whatever kind or category of 

friend we have, if the person is a true friend, there is the most valuable property of our life.

Comments:

Strong points:

- good use of various adverbs in your 300 word piece of writing

Weak points:

- Some mistakes as I have mentioned above

- Your expression sounds a little bit clumsy and sometimes difficultly

understandable

- The problem with compound and complex sentences

- Your writing is quite a short one to be an ideal essay. Thus, your ideas don’t

have chance to be better-developed as my expectation
