La skuara, o squara, è la squadra da disegno, dal latino “exquadrare”, rendere quadrato. “Sto muro no ze in squara”: questo muro non è ben squadrato. Ma accanto al significato originale, anche in questo caso il veneto regala molti modi di dire colorati e fantasiosi: “Essere fora squara”: essere fuori di testa, eccentrico, mezzo matto.

Parola usatissima in mille modi: “Essere un fil perdente” (essere tutto pelle e ossa), “Fare el filo” (corteggiare), “Romparse el filo de la schina” (spezzarsi la schiena). Da non confondersi con “filò”, le celebri veglie che si facevano nella stalla chiacchierando e raccontandosi storie.

Dal latino “sapo,saponis”, parola di origine gallica che indicava una miscela di sego e cenere, usata dai galli per tingersi i capelli. “Ghe voria bruscheto e saon” (ci vorrebbe bruschetta e sapone), si diceva di una persona sporca. Di una donna grassa si diceva: “la saria bona da fare saon”: andrebbe bene per farne sapone. Da non confondersi con “saor”, che sarebbe sapore.
