University of Family Learning Workshop (1 –1.5 Hours)
College: Preparing & Paying for the Future (543)
Higher education can be costly so it’s best to prepare. This workshop will help families learn how
to prepare and pay for the costs associated with earning certificates and degrees after high
school.
Considering College? Learn What’s Available and How to Get It! (512) Have a student who is thinking about going to college? This workshop will guide you where to
go, what to ask, and how to apply to help you support your student as they get ready for the next chapter as a college student. Parents and students are encouraged to attend this
workshop together. (This training is geared toward families of youth with children with all disabilities. Nonetheless, the material is accessible to all parents and students interested in
learning about supporting their children in literacy.)

Get College Ready vs. College Eligible (321) Attendees will learn what it means to be “college-ready” and where high school students
currently stand on that score. The presentation will provide information/resources regarding the sets of knowledge and skills needed for college access.

Help Support Your Child to Focus on Learning (514) Do you find that homework and other tasks can be challenging for your child to complete? Learn
about the difficulties children have with focusing, their different learning styles, and strategies that can help you help your child focus better. (This training is geared toward families with children with all disabilities. Nonetheless, the material is accessible to all
parents interested in learning about supporting their children in literacy.)

How to Pay for College (536) Individuals will learn of the various types of Federal Student Aid, which provide students
financial assistance in the forms of grants, loans, and work-study. We will discuss subsidized and unsubsidized loans and review the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal
Student Aid).

Insight into Graduation Requirements (304) This course guides parents through the graduation requirements in CCSD. We will cover
Infinite Campus, the CCSD transcript, Graduation Programs, diploma types, and additional testing and course requirements. All parents of high school students and those entering
high school are welcome to attend and will leave with the knowledge that will assist them
in helping their child graduate from high school.
Juntos Family College Preparedness Workshops (426) Juntos (pronounced “who-n-toes”) means “together” in Spanish. This program works to
unite community partners to provide students and their parents with knowledge, skills, and resources to prevent youth from dropping out. Families will learn how to work together to
gain access to college. (4 sessions)

Planning for Change: School to Adult Transition (534)
This class will provide information on the areas related to transitioning from student to
adult (ages 14-22), including post-secondary. Both students and parents are invited to
learn how to prepare for the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and take an active role at
the IEP meeting.

Scholarship Application Tips (545) Fill your toolbox with tips about the five main “ingredients” for scholarship applications and
discuss where, what, and for which scholarships to apply. Presented by: The Public Education Foundation
What’s Next? Exploring Opportunities after High School (335) Learn about options available to all students after they complete high school such as in-ternships, apprenticeships, job-training programs, certifications, credentials, and more.

Writing Resumes and Essays for Scholarships (544) Explore in-depth tips and tricks for writing resumes and essays to obtain scholarships suc-cessfully. Participants will leave with a resume of their own and explore successful essay
submissions.

We are always looking for new ways to reach CCSD parents and
meet them where they already are--at work, libraries, recreation
centers, community events, churches, etc. We appreciate the

University of Family Learning Calendar
Workshops are held at a variety of times including weekdays,
evenings, and weekends. Join us at any of the locations on the
calendar. All 150+ workshops and classes are FREE and open to
