Student Librarian Position: Application Form

The job: Being part of the team running the library checking out and returning books, helping people use the library, shelving books, keeping the library clean and organized, promoting the library and books, using the computers.

Qualities: Mrs. Stone is looking for people who are reliable, careful, friendly, hard-working, love books, like helping people, happy to use computers, good at alphabetical and numerical order, able to work without supervision, good listeners and communicators.

Requirements: Only sophomores, juniors and seniors are eligible to be a student librarian. You must be passing all your classes to be a library aide. If you fail a class you could lose your privilege of being a student librarian and placed in a tutorial. Only one student may be a student librarian each period. If your schedule changes and there are no open blocks you will lose the privilege of being a student librarian.

STUDENT LIBRARIAN DUTIES

1. Desk duty: check in and return items, arrange books in order on trolley ready to be shelved.

2. Shelf duty: shelve recently returned items. Check shelves are in numerical / alphabetical order. Ensure all books are upright on shelves and replace borrowed items on display stands.

3. Workroom duty: cover, label and stamp new books.

4. Floor duty: Assist people to locate information via the OPAC, online databases and the shelves. Help with troubleshooting computers, photocopiers and printers.

5. Promotions duty: Write reviews and recommendation for the library blog and Facebook Page. Help create and maintain library displays.

6. Tidy up: Put back or pick up: tables, chairs, cushions, books, magazines, rubbish.

7. Be cheerful and approachable to everybody using the library, so that they all see it as a friendly place to visit.
