Observations

1. Academic libraries often the first to implement Library 2.0

2. Blogs not part of “mainstream service”

3. Most common Web 2.0 technology used: blogs and RSS feeds

4. Main purpose of blogs: web publishing tools

Library 2.0 in the East Asian context

What is Web 2.0, really? Start a “Web 2.0 culture” before the technology

Think “Relationships” rather than “Transactions

Take the lead in sharing of knowledge

Library 2.0 in the East Asian context

Librarians 2.0? We need a Librarian 2.0 network

Establish a “East Asian Librarians 2.0 directory”

Become Internet Information Ambassadors

Library 2.0 in the East Asian context

Social media is a (difficult) reality No one suggests that this would be easy

Try to first understand the Web 2.0 culture

Not all librarians have to start a blog or create a Facebook account. But eventually some should

Social media is meant to be experienced

The key is how we librarians become part of that community

Library 2.0 in the East Asian context

Do the Simplest Thing Possible (STP)Leave comments on blogs, rather than start a blog

Being able to connect with others in the community is part education/ training, part self-awareness, intuition and common sense

Library 2.0 in the East Asian context

Conclusion: Sowing padi seeds in the SEA Less to do with "understanding the technology“

More of "understanding what makes the community tick“

Wearing the profession as a badge of honour

Establish a collective voice in the digital platform

Advocate and adopt a Library 2.0 and Librarian 2.0 mindset
